For you young whippersnappers out there who may not be familiar with this idiom or its history...
"The idiom 'jump the shark' is a term that is used to argue that a creative work or entity has reached a point in which it has exhausted its core intent and is introducing new ideas that are discordant with, or an extreme exaggeration of, its original purpose."
The origin of the idiom is an episode of Happy Days where the Fonz is water-skiing (oddly still wearing his trademark leather jacket) and jumps over a shark.

I'd argue that the video game equivalent of that idiom (and level of lazy writing) is "punch the boulder"!
Granted, Resident Evil has always been cheesy and over the top at times. But punching a boulder?! Seriously?! I'm sure all of us have tried pushing something heavy. But have any of you ever seriously thought that punching said object would help it move? No? Didn't think so!

Edit: I'll give a dishonourable mention to that kiss in 2006's Sonic the Hedgehog - a game so bad that it's not even in our library yet (but I'll go add it now just in case anyone wants to use it).

Even for a video game that was stupid. I played and beat this game and forgot all about that.

It's so stupid that this moment has been seared into my brain for the rest of my life!

I never even noticed that Sonic 2006 wasn't in tthe library, and I've lazily looked for Sonic games go add. Lol
