The Happy Days jump the shark moment is famous for taking something which was widely popular and hyping up a big moment which was kind of ridiculous for ratings, and then watching the show fall apart.

The Wii was a huge success. Families that normally were not gaming together would have family Wii bowling nights. The Wii U, even if it was a good system, is the very definition of a jump the shark moment. It came out too soon on the heels of something so popular and it's numbers reflect it. I did not get one and didn't game much because I wasn't going to throw money at a system to have it replaced 5 years later again. The Wii U is the reason I was hesitant to buy a Switch, but I believe the Wii U's shark jumping is the biggest reason we don't have a new system from Nintendo right now. Hopefully they really learned their lesson.

I will always wonder how the WiiU would've done had they named it differently

I’ve thought the same! Worst name Nintendo has ever used!

Great answer.

So true. I love the WiiU. I didn’t buy one at first because I didn’t understand what was going on. Why did we need a new console, even my MOM had her own wii!

That was Nintendo’s console jump the shark moment.
