Almost all of my reading is in Biblical Studies/Theology. I'll share my quote first then discuss.

"I have offered this proposal as a response to the lack of formal new covenant model in the Christian tradition, and as an outgrowth of my conviction that most of the traditional and recent models of the atonement address the atonement in partial and penultimate ways, rather than in a comprehensive and ultimate way... I have argued that this proposed new covenant model is a much more integrated, participatory, communal, and missional model than any of the major models in the tradition.... in the New Testament the death of Jesus is not only the source, but also the shape, of salvation... the New Testament is far more interested in what Jesus' death does for and to humanity than in how it does it (the "mechanics")"
The Death of the Messiah and the Birth of the New Covenant - Michael J. Gorman, pg 204

For my first quote in this group I decided to share a quote from a book which has had the biggest impact on my faith walk. When I first read these words at almost 40 years old during my first year of seminary I finally felt like I found someone speaking the langue of the faith I knew. My salvation event coincides with my calling to ministry. It was a call to follow and to be used, yet growing up salvation was always discussed in terms of sin, forgiveness, and repentance. Gorman is best known for his book Cruciformity where he presents the ideas of salvation being a life shaped by the Cross. Death of the Messiah evaluates the different models of atonement and demonstrates how salvation is not what gets us to this moment, but how we live afterwards.

I finally had a language for my faith. Let's just say I've become a huge fan of Gorman's writings.
