This is an action-platformer in which players help a half genie (Shantae) on a quest to rescue her friends from the mythical sirens. As players traverse side-scrolling environments, they can use Shantae's ponytail and her magical powers to defeat enemies; boomerangs, rockets, and shields are used to defeat various creatures (e.g., goblins, mermaids, scorpion people). Enemies generally get knocked off screen, disappearing into bursts of light. Several female characters/monsters wear low-cut, skimpy outfits that reveal large amounts of their breasts/cleavage. A green mermaid-like creature is depicted with exposed breasts, though with no discernible details (i.e., no nipples).
