Will the Nintendo Switch become the best selling console of all time?

In 2022, The Nintendo Switch sold about 19 million units and was the best selling console of the year, beating out both the PS5 and Xbox X. It is currently sitting at about 122 million lifetime units. The best selling system, the PS2, sold over 155 million units.

I think it will be a top 3 selling console of all time, as least in the foreseeable future but I don't think it will be number 1. With the addition of being able to play PS or Xbox games on the move, what else does the switch have that the others don't? I don't think Mario is enough to sustain it.

1) Long history of excellent exclusives.
2) Hybrid nature of console and handheld.
3) No imminent sequel on the horizon.

For these reasons, I believe the Switch definitely has the potential to surpass the PS2, especially if Nintendo were to ever release the long-rumoured Switch Pro!

Nothing can outsell the PS2, but I certainly hope it becomes NINTENDO's best selling console. It's the smartest one they've ever made by a landslide!
No

It's possible, but only if Nintendo leaves it in production long enough for it to happen. Rumor is they're releasing a new console in 2024.

Also, Steam Deck sales might put a small dent in their numbers.

Don't doubt it for a second. With all the updates and older games it's just a matter of time
Yes

Yes, Nintendo seems like they want to make it number one. They will probably keep porting older titles to the switch and add a DS/Wii/Gamecube online services when sales need to boost back up.
Yes

It will be close, but they would have to maintain their current sales for almost another 2 years. And the complaints about it being underpowered are stacking up.

Caveat: With a price drop, or new version they will probably do it.

very easy to use. portable cheaper then a console and a pc. can play pretty much every game a console could.
Yes

Truly one of the most versatile consoles on the market. Unless Nintendo out does themselves and makes something newer/better, I can absolutely see the switch being #1
Yes

As long as they dont come out with a new console in the next couple years. Switch seems like the go-to for kids getting their first gaming system.
Yes

Hoping the next few announced games will boost sales, but most people that are waiting for the new games already have the system. It's really incalculable...
Yes

Nintendo show no signs of making a new console and they could just make variations (Lite, OLED as examples) to keep up with changes on the same base model.
Yes

It all depends with they release a new console. I only think they should release a new one if graphics and frame rates can keep up with Xbox and PS5. If not keep rolling with the Switch. Nintendo found its niche and doesn’t need to compete with the other consoles now.
Yes

It'll be close but I don't think Nintendo is releasing a new console anytime soon so I think they'll end up best selling of all time.
Yes

Truthfully I don’t know. But it’s a little too mind-blowing to think about.
No

They sold 19 million last year, were the best selling system, have BOTW sequel in May, and haven't had the surge that will come whenever they finally lower the price of the system. It's going to happen. This also means the "Switch 2" doesn't come until 2025 minimum.
Yes

They’re about 50 million behind PS2. That’s about half of what they’ve sold since release. It’ll be close but I don’t see it happening.
No

Light mode
Nintendo does cheat with this anyway
Technically the Game Boy counted everything through the advance I think
Not sure how far the "Switch Family of Systems" will be counted, but they still continue to sell and have a very solid slate for no less than this year alone if not longer.
Yes

As long as Nintendo keeps pumping out games people want (Looking at you F-Zero and Star Fox) then there's no reason it won't become the best selling console ever.
Yes

I actually hope Nintendo releases a new system (Closer to the gamecube feel) within the next few years.
No

Seems like with the remaining big releases including more waves of Kart that it’ll catch up to the PS2
Yes

Now here’s the thing I’m not necessarily the biggest Nintendo fan but do like them but if you see the amount of old games from their old consoles there adding to the switch it will make that have tons of sells just for those games. Plus even with not the best graphics it still sold the most consoles
Yes

I think it’ll come close but it’s too far into it’s lifespan (6 years) to catch the PS2.
No

I can’t see where it wouldn’t be with the emulators rolling out games from adults childhoods, new Kart tracks, new variations of the Switch whether custom system or different specs.
Yes

Yep! Everyone else is producing newer systems more often. Nintendo is just still producing more great games for this older system. It’s inevitable!
Yes

I think the switch is nearing the end of its life cycle. However, the legend of Zelda release should be enough to keep sales strong this year. I think Nintendo will release a new switch soon. Not sure if it will still fall into the same family, or be counted as switch 2.
Yes

handheld and docked?! you cant ask for much more from kids to adults it offers all, you cant beat the versatility of what is offered. Whether you are serious or causal there is something for all. I say this because I travel for work a lot and it offers me the opportunity to game while traveling.
