My definition of a sport is "Any physical activity where you can beat your opponent without the need of a judge."

This has nothing to do with athleticism and more to do with functionality. For example, bowling...not a very athletic sport. Gymnastics...super athletic competition.

Should professional gaming (E-sports) be considered an actual sport?

Lots of people quickly point out refs when I mention judges.

Refs enforce rules, Judges give scores.

But what about boxing?? There's judges in boxing!?
Well yeah, but you CAN beat your opponent without the need of a judge. And boxing judges give scores less from how they think you did and more from how many punches you actually landed or dodged.

So you don't think cheer-leading is a sport?!?!

No. I don't. But that doesn't mean it's not athletic. Cheer-leaders are some of the most athletic people out there. But to me, it's a competition. A VERY ATHLETIC COMPETITION.

If cheer-leading is a sport, then show choir and marching band would also have to be clarified as sports.

"But playing video games isn't physical!"

Actually it is. It's reaction time, multi-tasking, and you play better when you lean forward ;)

In my mind, it's similar to Nascar. The drivers just sit there, right?? No. They have practiced these small routine movements and combinations to perfect their craft. And to me...that craft...is a sport.
