The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an upcoming 2023 action-adventure game developed by Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. A sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017), Tears of the Kingdom retains many aspects of its predecessor, including the open-world environment of Hyrule, which is expanded to allow for more vertical exploration. Link, the protagonist of Tears of the Kingdom, is joined by Zelda and is opposed by Ganon.

This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of Link on a quest to locate Princess Zelda and stop an evil force. Players traverse and explore open-world environments, interact with characters, forage for food and materials, and engage in melee combat against fantastical creatures (e.g., skeletons, goblins, lizard men). Players use swords, hammers, bows, and explosives to attack enemies that generally disappear amid smoke puffs and/or collectible items. Stylized battles are sometimes frenetic, accompanied by impact sounds, cries of pain, and brief explosions. A handful of creatures (e.g., Great Faeries) wear revealing outfits, with moderate cleavage and/or exaggerated-size breasts; characters are sometimes depicted wearing boxer-briefs.
