Super Nintendo (SNES)
1991-08-23
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), commonly shortened to Super NES or Super Nintendo, is a 16-bit home video game console developed by Nintendo that was released in 1990 in Japan and South Korea, 1991 in North America, 1992 in Europe and Oceania, and 1993 in South America. In Japan, it is called the Super Famicom (SFC). In South Korea, it is called the Super Comboy[e] and was distributed by Hyundai Electronics. The system was released in Brazil on August 30, 1993, by Playtronic. Although each version is essentially the same, several forms of regional lockout prevent cartridges for one version from being used in other versions.

My SNES was my favorite console when I was a kid.

Although I didn't own one as a kid, I enjoy so many of the classics.

Played NES as a kid but this was the first console we had in our house. Great memories. I remember my parents got it for us for Easter in '92. So Sunday we get the system, we didn't have the right adapter for the TV so we couldn't play (of course), and Monday we took a week trip to my grandparents. Such torture!!!!! I read the instruction manual for Super Mario Bros. back to front over and over that week. My dad had it set up for us when we got back and told us to turn the dial on the TV to channel 3 and have fun. Just a system that was amazing in its day and really got many of us into gaming.

Really isn’t many flaws to this system (minus cartridges not working sometimes). To this day it still has some of my favorite games :
Donkey Kong country
Mario rpg
Ultimate mk 3

Killer instinct

It’s one system I’m glad i didn’t get rid of and if you can’t get one buy the snes classic it’s full of great games !

I never had a SNES until I was an adult. My grandmother had one, and so did my cousin, and I would sneak over there to play it whenever I could. Such a solid gaming experience. The pure amount of classics created for this makes it a 5-star system.

Home to my favourite game of all-time, Super Mario World, the SNES was the pinnacle of 2D gaming!
While the NES introduced me to gaming, it was the SNES that cemented me as a lifelong Nintendo fan. Countless hours spent on masterpieces such as Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 2, Mario Kart, and Lion King (amongst others). I still go back and play SNES all these years later!

What monster gave this less than 5 stars!?
?
SNES is the best system of all time. Obviously yes the PS5 for example is technically 1,000x better BUT... SNES just rules. One of the best libraries ever, awesome controller, unforgettable games, it had everything. Still regularly play SNES games on the Switch or emulator.

My first console I remember really playing. Mario and Kart were regulars but I started playing sports games with this console. FIFA 96 and NHL 97 were favorites. I still have this console and the remote cords have electrical tape but it still works.. they don't make em like the use to

Everything you loved about NES kicked up exponentially. The sound improvement, the controller upgrades. Immaculate upgrades to major series that hold up to this day and new series that left a mark for years. RPGs that are at the top of their genre to this day. While the Genesis holds a strong place in my heart, looking back this one won the generation.

This was and still is one of the most revolutionary consoles. NES was great but this was Super. Really it brought so many games we still love and defined genres.

Nintendo really broke ground and continued to develop gaming into the future with the SNES. Mario kept running and won the competition against Sega.

Such a great system with an incredible library of games. I think this may be my favorite controller of all time

The golden age of gaming in my opinion. So many classics that aged extremely well - I still play Super Mario World, Super Metroid and Zelda: aLttP every couple years or so. Final Fantasy 6 > all other Final Fantasies. My brothers and I asked for this for Christmas, and on Christmas Eve our cat scratched one of the few gifts that was under the tree early. I could see enough inside to know it was F-Zero - and sure enough, there was a console-sized gift wrapped on Christmas morning.

Solid system. It worked, rain or shine. The only problem was a cartridge not reading correctly sometimes. That it was only two players was its biggest downfall. But it allowed for split screen on certain games. It had a variety of titles. It was where I started gaming consciously. Honestly, it was a simple, but fun time for gaming.

One of the greats! Nintendo pumps out the best systems year in and year out! And they hold their worth for decades!! Super Mario alone made this console worth it!

I cut my teeth on this console and it kicked off a life-long love of games. Classic, accessible, and always fun.

The first console I ever owned. I played so much Zelda and Star Fox on this thing that to this day I have those games memorized. The 8-bit and 16-bit era games really hold up today and I am excited to show my kid these SNES games as he gets older.

The first of the truly great consoles. Everything just seemed a little better on here than the competition even though they all were fairly similar. The games were the hit that really made it take off. Mixed with one of the best controller designs to this day, the Super Nintendo is one of the best video game systems to ever grace the face of the earth.

I never saw this console anywhere else other than my grandparents house. Any time I had to stay the night there, or we visited, I did what I could to be able to play Super Mario or Donkey Kong Country. This system, while I never owned it, holds that nostalgia value to me as I looked at it as something to relate with my grandparents.

The best Nintendo system ever made. I still play the SNES games from my Switch. I really spent the majority of my gaming on this system as a kid. tons of great games, at the time, amazing graphics and the controller was top notch.

I still play SNES games on my switch using a SNES controller. The vibrant colors and timeless classic games made this one if the best systems ever.

Our families first console. What a turning point for gaming in my life. This system brought joy and some fighting between my siblings. Sometimes i wish we could go back in time and play it for the first time.
