Now THIS is everything I expect from an indie game. The game tosses you in immediately into play with no real direction to go in. The ocean is bright, colorful, and full of life that you can interact with. The music makes it obvious what you should be feeling throughout your playthrough. The world goes from bright to dark and takes a fairly dramatic turn. I had a story that was loose, but had just enough for me to feel good about my interpretation of the events.

Also a big 1up for making me feel comfortable playing an almost entirely underwater game. I still have trouble even dealing with the eel in Mario 64. I need more indie games like Abzü.

SpeedRunners
This a really fun, fast paced, 2d race against up to 3 other people. The controls are simple and intuitive: run, jump, slide, swing and make sure you don't end up out of bounds. The best way to play this though is with your friends. Every match turns into a tense showdown of who will mess up a jump first.

4 stars for always being a fun time with people I know. Missing a star because I am not going to open and play this one on my own. Though single player mode is plenty challenging. I'm still working on world 1.

Journey (2012)
I REALLY hate that I'm writing this but... I just didn't get it. Let me start with what worked well. The visuals throughout the game are stunning. The music is epic and sets a great mood through all the different stages. The gameplay is simple and easy to follow.

What didn't work? When a game is short, lacking dialogue, and lacking real conflict, I need the story to MOVE me. Words aren't needed, battles aren't needed, but I need to feel and understand on some level what the game wants me to learn. I ended the game and had no idea what I did. I didn't understand the journey, I didn't understand the destination, and I don't love the "ending". This one hurt.

Wordle
Fun for a little bit, but once you work out a system it just feels like a tedious task.

Update: adding a star just because I'm enjoying playing it with people here.

Marvel's Spider-Man (2018)
Amazing game. Fluid combat, compelling story, and I could spend hours just swinging through the city.

Hawked
It's okay for a F2P game. i play a round or two at a time, but Helldivers 2 coming out around the same time really moved this one back for me.

Helldivers II
I'm really enjoying this game for a few reasons:

1. The community is all taking part in the fantasy. With friends and with randoms, people are laughing in chat, yelling call outs, "sacrificing" themselves in large explosions to save their teammates. It's just good fun.

2. Once you get to medium difficulty (which isn't actually medium, there's like 7 harder modes) this game gets tough and requires teamwork.

3. Extracting the team. The longest 2 minutes invovle fighting hordes of enemies while your extract ship arrives and making sure the whole team is alive to finish the level.

There's some repetitiveness in missions, but I'm hopeful the devs are going to keep being responsive and keep giving us more.

Oh forgot about 4: The free battle pass has ALOT of stuff in it and it's reasonably priced. It's making me really consider paying for the premium.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Main story and all side missions complete. 94% complete and I don't see myself searching for a few obscure items to finish the 6%. I loved this game. The story was engaging and fulfilling. Everything about the way it ended made sense to me. The large map became more and more fun to traverse as I unlocked skills. The combat mechanic was intuitive and allowed for creativity. Every boss was unique and extremely entertaining. The 3d enemy moments felt very fresh and different from other games. This is the first official game I completed on the Steam Deck and I think playing handheld added to the experience. Ubisoft completely knocked it out of the park with this one.

Chief Emoji Officer
Fun little mobile game. Took a few attempts to get the right promotions. The accuracy of office personalities was spot on.
0
Red Steel
I absolutely loved this game. The motion controls were a little rough, but as a kid, it just felt like something you got used to. Played both the story and the multiplayer over and over.
0
Grift
When I started the game, my initial thought was wtf is going on. I played on and watched the story unfold. It's a dark story and the realism is in point. Don't let the goats fool you.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
Honestly, I feel like I could leave one review and it would apply to every Kirby game. I'll say I thought this one was more challenging than most Kirby games. The upgrades they made to this game from the Wii are noticable and positive. Highly recommend for yourself and especially if you have young ones.
0
Unravel Two
Great gameplay, challenging puzzles. The carry system was great for obstacles too tough for my kid. Minus 1 star because the story felt a little too vague. I know games want people to interpret stuff, but I need a little more direction for my interpretation to make sense.

Hue
I just completed the game and honestly don't know how to feel about it.

The colors and music suck you in right away. I love that every time a letter is read to you, the game gives you enough walking room to enjoy the dialogue without having to stand still or worry about falling. The puzzles scaled in their difficulty and were fun, but I thought they became a little too elaborate towards the end.

The ending though is really what's stopping me from going 5 stars. I had built up in my head a couple predictions of where I thought the game was going, but I didn't think all the great build up was utilized enough. I was left wanting and unsure.

If you enjoy puzzle scrollers though, I still recommend playing. Play handheld if possible.

The Finals
Fast games, classes that each feel different and meaningful. I'm really loving this game and happy to have something that pays differently than all the current fps. Definitely needs to be played with friends since communication is key. Leaving one star off for some QOL stuff I'd like and a better job of not throwing me into the middle of a game. Look to OW2 and their priority matchmaking system.
0
Rocket Racing
My new obsession. Cars drive smoothly, the tracks are unique and there's a learning curve to doing consistently well. As always, having a ranked mode is a plus. Love that Fortnite is supporting this and allowing me to gain battlepass XP while enjoying this fun game.

Popcorn Rocket
Glad to review now that the episode is out. Galaga was my favorite arcade game growing up playing with my mom. I'm all in on these space shooters. I play controller for this one (didn't love the keyboard layout). The game is very challenging, but fair. There are some challenges to hit specific scores which will require hitting some perfect runs, but in no way is it a quarter eater like the arcade games of old were. I'm through 3 levels and had to focus in the beat each one. Cheesy dialogue is over the top, but it works. I completely believe that the salty foods are the good guys and the sweets are evil.

Bluey: The Videogame
Writing this review 2 "episodes" in. This is a really nice kid's first video game. You get to do simple tasks that teach kids concepts like platforming, following markers, and collecting items. Even my 1 year old got excited hearing the theme song play when we turned the game on.
I put 4 stars but if I'm being honest, I think it's closer to 3.5 for two reasons. 1st: For a game with very basic animations (nothing wrong with that) it has some frame bugs and even caused us to restart the game once. A game this simple shouldn't have those things happen. 2nd: the game has a VERY limited audience. Even for my 5 year old, it's already really simple since he's already been playing other games for the past year. All that said, it's a great intro to games for kids and maybe even some adults, grandparents. I had no problem spending 40$ on it.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder
I finally feel ready to write this review. They did it; they created the new standard for Mario 2D video games. I'm blown away by all the aspects of this game. The music is new, light weight, and fun. The colors pop on screen. The Flower Kingdom is its own world separate from the Mushroom Kingdom.

The level designs are well thought out and expansive. The Wonder Flowers made it seem as if each level was a 2 for 1 deal. Each one was it's own unique experience. Some levels had secret exits. Some were obvious, others took a little extra exploring. The star system was accurate and fulfilling. 1 star levels were a great way to break up a tutorial throughout the game as opposed to front loading and giving the game a slow start. The worlds were filled with entertaining 2/3 star levels and each ended with 4 star levels that were challenging. The 5 star levels were very clearly 5 stars, but were generally not needed to complete the game which leaves the game open to both casual gamers, young gamers, old gamers, and gamers who look for extra challenges.

The collection system is full, but not overwhelming. I am not chasing after 1000 meaningless, obscure objectives. It has not felt like a chore going through and collecting coins and seeds as I play the levels. As I am writing this, I have a few loose ends to tie up and I plan on doing so. Before this, the only game i had any real aspirations to 100% complete was Mario 64.

Thank you for removing the clock system and encouraging exploring. That alone may be the biggest change to 2D Mario. And for anyone that wants a clock, they still gave it to us in small, challenge segments.

This will go down as a generation defining Super Mario game. I am sitting here having serious considerations if I think it is better than Super Mario 64, but I can definitively say it has been the best 2D adventure I have played and it will be placed in my Mt. Rushmore of gaming. "Too-Da-Loo!"

Crossy Road
I'd probably enjoy it more if it wasn't on a touchscreen. Frogger without a button or keyboard doesn't work for me.
0
Splatoon 3
I’m having an absolute blast with this game. Fun, quick matches, multiple weapons, and a great ranked mode. I can see myself playing this for a long time.
0
Disney Speedstorm
The music and graphics are a real treat with this game. The controls are smooth and the different styles of drivers are noticeable and fun. The courses feel short and there aren't many yet, but I'm hoping the constant updating of content addresses that. The pay to win feel hurts the game for me. If you give me a ranked, regulated mode, I'll go to four stars. I would absolutely love this as a C3 event though.

Update: I can't stop playing, so we're moving up to 4 stars. All other previous comments still stand.

Update 2: We're hitting 5 stars. There's an aggression needed in this game, especially off the starting line, that I really love. Your character is rewarded with boost for being offensive and crashing into others. The ranked grind is a fun time. The items all feel useful and skill dependent.
0
Pinball
I'm one that thinks NES generally don't hold up well. That's not the case for pinball, simple and stills lots of fun.
0
F-ZERO 99
I don't think they'll ever capture the greatness of Tetris 99, but it's definitely a fun game.
0
GRIS
Just wow. I took 3 hours to play through this game. The colors, the music, the play style. This game is tragically beautiful and emotional. This is a game to show people the level of depth and emotion a game can provide without saying a single word.
0
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Very early review. This game is an upgraded version of BBS. KH gameplay and fighting always feels smooth and fluid. I'm into the story and happy to be playing as Sora and Riku again. This series does a great job at making each game in the series add important context to the overall story.
0
Uno (2016)
An absolutely amazing game for 4 year olds. Great way to learn numbers and colors. Now go play any other card or board game please.
0
Overwatch 2
It's a great game to play with a team. Communication is key. A colorful game, with plenty of characters, weapons, and abilities. I never played OW1, but I can say I always have fun playing OW2.
0
Dinosaur Game (Chrome Dino)
It's dangerous just how quickly these kinds of games just eat up time. Go to play one or twice and all of sudden 30 minutes have gone by and your family wants to know why you're still in the bathroom.
0
Temple Run
15 years ago, I'd given this 4 stars. When mobile games were starting, this was one I played endlessly. Today, the repetitive gameplay + endless ads are ruining this and many other mobile games.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Time for the official review. This game makes BOTW, former game of the year, look like a demo. Every aspect of the game has improved. The weapon combination system is fun and creative, the new building system adds layers and layers to accomplishing quests, and the map has expanded and changed. I love seeing the differences made to the iconic landscapes of BOTW. The cutscenes give life to the story in a way I thought BOTW missed. I'm engaged and want to complete every task. Nothing seems like a chore even though most of the time my gameplay involves exploring, climbing, and saving Koroks. I spent 100 hours in BOTW, I'll spend 150 easily in this one. Here's your 2023 GOTY, Nintendo does it again.
0
Galaga
I love this game and still think it's as fun as ever. My best memories of this game are playing against my mother on the N64. We had the Namco bundle on N64 and as soon as I saw the Namco bundle on Switch, I bought it again.
0
Words On Stream
I really love the team aspect to this game. I'm rooting each round for everyone to be successful and carry me to the next level. Best played with friends.
0
Hop
It's another decent, mobile game time waster. Part of my "airplane mode" group.
0
KartRider: Drift
It's an okay game. Harder drift controls than Mario Kart. Content wise, it's lacking.
0
Candy Crush Saga
I've completed over 400 levels in this game, so at some point I must've really enjoyed it. 😂 I really remember this as the game my mother plays.
0
Pac-Man 99
I just don't feel like I have the same control in this game that I get in Tetris 99. Feels random.
0
Bejeweled Blitz
I'm only playing this for C3 quests. Game really doesn't interest me. Reminds me of something my mom would enjoy playing for hours.
0
Hogwarts Legacy
If you love Harry Potter this game is everything you've ever wanted. Explore Hogwarts, enjoy all the details and Easter eggs, build your room of requirement. There was so much love and effort put into the game.
If you aren't a Harry Potter fan, this game is still great. It has a smooth, creative combat system, characters that you can empathize with, and an amazing open world to explore. It is the best game to come out this year so far.
0
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Fun, challenging, and influential to my musical taste. Plus it came in a blue cartridge on the N64.
0
Dishonored 2
You'll get out of this game what you put in. If you play with the intention to be as stealth as possible and avoid killing people, you're going to have a fun time finding creative ways to win and explore the levels. If you just go guns blazing, you'll fly through and not truly experience what makes this game fun. 4 Stars because this is one of the few times that I think an original game was better than the sequel.
0
God of War Ragnarök
I don't have to play this game to respect its greatness. Maybe one day, I'll play on PC.
0
Marvel Snap
By far one of the best mobile games I’ve ever played. There are so many cards and unique combinations to try.
0
Kahoot!
Students love playing them, creating them, and studying with them. Kahoot!'s are awesome.
0
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
Finally finished this one. I’m torn on the rating because it has been the least enjoyable KH for me so far. In reality, I’d probably give it a 3.5. I did not love the repetitive gameplay through the three characters, but being that it was a full game on a portable system, I understand. BBS added a great layer to the story and took the series from a random island, with some random kids, who randomly got some weapons, to a story of whether or not one chooses their fate or if their fate is chosen for them. Even if it was not my favorite, I will say the final boss fights in each story were fun and challenging. I’m looking forward to starting Dream Drop Distance next.
0
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0
I really tried with this one. Played solo, played squads, I just don't get it. If I want fast gameplay, I'll play Apex. If I want fun, creative play, I'll play Fortnite. If I want teams, I'll play Halo or OW2.
0
Pong
A classic game that I played much more in arcades than I did at home.
0
Super Mario All-Stars
This is Mario to me. I really don't have memories of NES Mario. SNES Mario and eventually Yoshi were my true beginning of gaming.
0
Multiversus
Very fun, enjoyable fighting game. Doesn't hold my attention long term like smash bros does, but I'll continue to play it time to time. Definitely different enough and free to play is always a plus.
0
Metal: Hellsinger
Having only played the demo so far, this is an easy 5 star game. I catch myself bobbing my head up down with every beat.
0
Super Mario Odyssey
I’ve finally played this enough for a proper rating. 2 minutes into the game, I knew it was a 5 star, Mario classic. I had immediate memories of playing Mario 64. Some things I immediately noticed and loved: every stage has a multitude of achievements that can be somewhat done in any order, once you gain a “Moon” you can keep playing and don’t need to re-enter the level again, the hat mechanic is creative and doesn’t feel forced. The graphics are a colorful and bright continuation of Mario Galaxy graphics. I feel like this game is the true culmination of 35 years of Mario Adventures.
1
Dragon Ball FighterZ
It's a fun, fast paced game. Only 4 stars though because I wanted the play style to match Marvel vs Capcom, but it just doesn't live up to that.
0
Dead Island
This felt like a great mix of different style zombie games. There were slow moving target practice zombies and chaotic running zombies in the lockdowned city. The different styles of play made the game interesting to play more than once.
0
Army of Two
This was the perfect game to play with my brother. I really enjoyed how the game utilized the two characters.
0
Mario Kart Wii
I thought the motion controls were cool, until I realized I could play so much better without them.
0
Kirby Super Star
If I could give this game 6 stars I would. Kirby is not about being super difficult. It is just a fun game. Player two is also a great way to play with your kid. There probably isn't another game I've completed as many times as this one.
0
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse
A difficult game. As a kid, I played exclusively in training mode because the special abilities only required one button press. I don't think I ever beat the final boss, but the game was very fun to play.
0
Mega Man X2
Still a fun game, but everything felt just a bit lesser then MMX. Bosses were easier, power ups were almost too strong, and the final level felt easier than the original. Playing on Switch, I appreciate the upgraded graphics.
0
Bloody Roar: Primal Fury
One of my favorite fighting games. I thought the fight mechanics were simple enough to get into and complex enough to be entertaining.
0
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Power Rangers was my favorite show as a kid. Being able to morph and battle was absolutely amazing.
0
Power Rangers Zeo: Battle Racers
Just like Power Rangers Zeo wasn't as good as the original, this game could not love up to the previous games.
0
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (Smash 4)
I only played this one on other people's consoles, but there was something missing to this game. It just didn't have the charm that smash brawl had for me.
0
Time Crisis II
An enormous amount of money was spent on this game throughout my childhood. I finally beat it once we bought it for PS2.
0
Soulcalibur II
For someone that didn't play Zelda games, I was really excited to represent GameCube and Link.
0
Guitar Hero
This was Dance Dance Revolution, except with my hands and better music. I owe my knowledge of Rock music to this game.
0
Jetpack Joyride
Mobile games for me are generally just, play for a few days and forget about it. Jet pack joyride is an exception. I played this game constantly, unlocked all the gear at the time, and kept trying for higher scores.
0
Chex Quest
I didn't know what Doom was nor would my parents have allowed me to play it, but I knew Chex Quest. It is a total reskin of Doom for kids to play. I loved this game and played non-stop on a Windows '95. There's also apparently a remaster for free on Steam with Co-op and multiplayer. I would have never known I could replay this game if it were not for Channel 3!
0
Dishonored
This is one of my favorite games on the 360. I really enjoyed the different styles of play needed to unlock the multiple endings.
0
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
I remember having to convince my parents to still let me play the series even though this sequel came with an M rating. Warrior Within upped the combat, upped the gameplay, and kept the story moving forward.
0
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
This was a great game. The acrobatic movements and fighting style felt unique, the story was engaging, and the sands of time powers were fun to use. Also, this game set the stage for it's semi-successor, Assassin's Creed.
0
Enter the Matrix
The game is okay and enjoyable, but the real fun came from putting in the unlimited focus cheat and being able to actually fight an agent.
0
Mario Strikers Charged
This game is still the GOAT of Mario sports games. The gameplay, the character selection, the ability to create unique teams all came together perfectly on the Wii.
0
Animal Crossing
4 stars because I did put in a decent amount of time into this game, but it's not a series I had any interest going back to.
0
Super Mario Strikers
The original Super Mario Strikers was simple in design, but the gameplay was amazing. This was a great intro into what has become my favorite Mario Sport series.
0
SkiFree
Is there a way to escape the yeti? No idea. Did I try over and over? Yep...
0
Custom Robo
Everything about this game was fun. The story and CPU battles were tough, the multiplayer was great, and the customization felt relevant. Different battles needed different styles of play. I would love to see a version of this on the switch.
0
WinBack
The hiding behind walls mechanic was a fun twist for shooters. Was a fun game for the time.
0
Dance Dance Revolution (1998)
I owned many versions of this game at home. Had the dance pads and everything. Some of these also had games on them that were basically speed drills that I would workout with. I put this as one of the games that I considered myself pretty good at. I was the guy playing the tough songs in the arcade.
0
Namco Museum (64)
This is really where I learned the classic arcade games and learned my mom was a beast at Galaga.
0
The Simpsons (1991)
I have vivid memories beating this at the arcade with three friends of mine. One of the best arcade games ever made.
0
Mega Man X7
The voice acting is cheesy and the new character, Axl, isn't great, but it's a solid Mega Man game with a gun mix up of 2D and 3D play.
0
Gauntlet Dark Legacy
I had no idea there were so many Gauntlet games. This was there only one I played back on GameCube. My brothers and I had specific characters to always use. Hours and hours of fun.
0
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Thank goodness for the Mario All Star collection or I wouldn't have learned about this game or the poison mushroom.
0
Mega Man Network Transmission
I loved watching the tv show and was so excited to play this game. Internet Mega Man was a great, fun concept.
0
Kingdom Hearts χ (X - Chi)
It was a mobile game with a bunch of in game purchases and grinding need to succeed, but still 4 stars for the additional story telling.
0
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
Kingdom Hearts does an excellent job of making the side stories feel as important as the main games.
0
Superhot
One of the best VR games with such a unique play style. Has so much replayability.
0
Mario Strikers: Battle League
Update: I've been meaning to write this for a while, but the amount of disappointment this game made me feel is tough to describe. They took what I think is their best sport series and gave us a hollow shell of what it used to be. This game gets the same review from me as Halo Infinite. The gameplay mechanics are there, but the content is a 1/5. Shame on Nintendo.

They've kept the essence of the game while still making it feel new and fresh. This is going to be an exciting skill based, multiplayer battle.
0
Rampage
I played this way more at the arcade than home, but still such a fun time.
0
Pokémon Puzzle League
It's a fairly basic game, but I remember putting alot of time into it. So 4 stars from my child self.
0
Hydro Thunder
Another game I loved playing at the arcade. A fun change from typical car racing games.
0
The Sims
I probably in a minority here, but I find nothing appealing in this game. I don't want to make a house, I don't want to send people to work, and I don't need to listen to their gibberish. Just a boring game.
0
Crazy Taxi
I loved playing this game in the arcade. I still have it as a mobile app and enjoy playing a few rounds
0
The Oregon Trail
This game was the highlight of computer class waaaay back in the day. Have you beaten it, because I know I didn't.
0
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
This is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played. Both for the music and the art work, this game should be played in a dark room with headphones on. The updated battle system, ability upgrades, and save style made this a perfect sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest. This is an absolute must play game.
0
Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
Despite not being very good at it, Marvel vs Capcom is probably my favorite fighting game. This game is what actually made me a Mega Man fan. My local Doughnut shop has an arcade box of this game free for any customer to use. So now my son gets to play this great game too.
0
Jet Force Gemini
Here's another game that I'm not sure anyone but me played. When you talk about difficult games, Jet Force Gemini needs to be included. I still remember the exact boss I never could get passed. Maybe one day the Switch will give me a chance at redemption. The multiplayer was fun too.
0
Diddy Kong Racing
I've never met a person that didn't enjoy this game. This game had 20 levels that could be completed in a kart, raft, or airplane. That would be difficult today to create such encompassing levels. I'm hopeful for a one day sequel or at least bring it to the Switch Expansion.
1
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I love this game, random tripping mechanic and all. The game was given a floatier style of play which contrasted with Melee's sharp and heavy style. The story mode was amazing and the final smashes were a fun addition to Smash Bros (granted it was a feature I didn't use much of). Besides the base game, the mods that were created by fans were great to play too. Brawl Minus was my personal favorite.
0
Art of Fighting
I have never met a single person who played or even knew about this game. For me, though, this was the first fighting game I ever owned or played. I didn't know who Ryu or Ken were, but I knew Ryo and Robert. They used their own version of the Hadoken and even used the same button inputs. To this day, I can only beat this game at difficulty 2/9. The CPU does not hold back. This game also holds a special place as the game my dad and I played the most together. To this day, he reminds me how I never could beat him when he used Mickey and his "ultimate move" (hold down on the d-pad and keep pressing attack). I later learned this game was a precursor to King of Fighters.
0
Mega Man X
"X" is the superior Mega Man and nothing anyone says will change my mind. He's older, stronger, and the game remains challenging to this day. Though I enjoy some of the other MMX games, I think this original one is the best of the series.
0
Kingdom Hearts
I just love everything about this game. Mix Disney and Final Fantasy, a story about darkness and light, and the best game soundtrack around, and you get one of the best games of my lifetime. I tear up every time I hear the opening title song.
0
Super Mario World
IMO, this is the pinnacle of Mario 2d scrollers. Again, Nintendo does a great job of adding elements that become staples of the Mushroom Kingdom. Yoshi became so popular, it’s had multiple games dedicated to the multi colored dinosaurs. Mario’s cape has been part of his arsenal since smash bros melee (I prefer it over tanooki). Nintendo also continues its staple of placing multiple secret paths and levels in its games. Great levels, fun music, and bowser riding a propeller jar that would eventually be passed on to Bowser Jr.
1
Super Mario 3D All-Stars
The best (64) , the hardest (sunshine), and the most beautiful ( galaxy). Nintendo loves putting out “classics” over and over, but the replay ability is unmatched.
0
Super Mario 64
This will always be my favorite Mario game. No game or system has ever made the dramatic jump in abilities like Mario did with the N64. 3D gaming, vibrant colors and stages, and an amazing soundtrack. Though I played NES and SNES games, Super Mario 64 was the true start of my love for gaming.
1
Super Mario Bros. 2
Though this game was just another game with a Mario skin thrown over it, Mario Bros 2 gave us character designs that have stuck till this day. Luigi jumps high, Peach can fly (float? glide?), and Birdo exists. Not as good as Mario Bros 1, 3 or Super Mario World, but still very fun and memorable.
0
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
It is ultimate for a reason. This is the peak of the Super Smash Bros series. It has over 80 characters, and don't listen to tier lists, they somehow made it possible to be skilled and successful with every single character.
0
Super Mario Bros. 3
This is such a challenging game. The variety of worlds, levels, and short cuts were amazing.
0
Mario Kart 8
When you have a perfect game, you just add to it. Really feels like this is the peak of kart, and it's a high peak.
0
Hades
Hades succeeds where other rogue likes fail in keeping players engaged and replaying over and over without getting stale. The story continues way past the “main” story and keeps adding layers the more you engage with the characters. I’m 80 escape attempts and I could probably do another 80 and still have things to do in this game. A must play.
0
Halo Infinite
From a game play perspective, infinite took everything all us middle aged people loved about Halo and made it feel fresh and new. But the lack of variety in game modes, cosmetics, and XP earning makes it hard to stick to outside of playing with a group of friends.
0
Donkey Kong Country
An absolutely unforgiving game of precision and timing. To this day, I’m still working on completing it.
0
Super Mario Bros.
This is where the fun all began. In 2022, this game still holds up and is as challenging as ever.
0
Brawlhalla
It separates itself well from other "Smash-like" games with it's personal items system. Fun F2P. I go back to it from time to time.
0
Rocket League
This game is special to me because my brothers and I play trios and get to chat while not living in the same state. The game is welcoming to all levels and is just a high quality product.
0
Elden Ring
This is my first Souls game and it delivered big time. The game is as difficult as advertised. What really amazes me is the amount of bosses and that each one presents its own, unique challenges. I am 75 hours in and I still haven't completed the map. Even with so many hours logged, I still am enjoying the story and the slow, but steady progress I am making.
0
Fortnite
No build mode has allowed me to really enjoy Fortnite. It also has the most rewarding Battle Pass system I have come across. I love that I can play alone and complete a variety of objectives that have nothing to do with actually winning a round. The art is also creative and fun with each new season.
0
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Mario kart 8 is clearly the pinnacle of kart, but Double Dash was the one I put the most time in. The weight classes and special character items really moved the series forward. And player 2 was great for the younger sibling.
0
Dante's Inferno
Create a game around religious and mythological stories and I'm in. Smooth fighting mechanics, multiple fighting styles, and you learned a little bit as you journeyed through the inferno. Had some replayability too.
0
Cuphead
Simple mechanics and fun bosses. The run and gun levels though seemed overly difficult.
0
Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress was there for me in college when I had a less than average computer.
0
Star Fox
I think this game was just made too early. To be fair, I played the N64 version first so there was no chance of me enjoying the SNES version.
0
Star Fox 64
I played this game over and over and over. Getting the medals was so hard in this game, I didn't even know they existed when I was a kid.
0
Beat Saber
Anytime someone asks for VR games recommendations, this is number 1. Beat Saber is the most fun you’ll have while also getting a pretty good workout in. They keep adding to the music selection, and who doesn’t want to wield lightsabers?
0
Kingdom Hearts II
The "sequel" to one of the greatest games delivered with an updated, smoother battle system, challenging bosses, more Disney characters, and new characters to pull at your heart strings.
0
NFL Blitz
As a kid who knew absolutely nothing about football, this game provided a fun and easy way to play. The only issue is that I thought 30yd 1st downs were real.
0
Mario Golf: Super Rush
Nintendo has done everything it could to make non golfers enjoy golf. Best played with friends. My only issue is there needed to be another way to train your Mii outside of story mode.
0
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
This game taught me that I’m terrible at staying on task without being forced into it. Oh you need me to prove myself worthy of your guild? Sure, I’ll put saving the world on hold for that. And repeat. Endless hours of fun.
0
Kirby's Adventure
I can’t tell you why this or any Kirby game is great, I just know it is. One of those games that continues to hold up over time with a simple formula for success.
0
Super Mario Kart
This to me is another game in line with Star Fox for SNES. The game was too ahead of the technology and the Nintendo 64 versions are better. Thank you for walking so the rest of the series could run.
0
Among Us
I’ma huge fan of deduction board games. Being able to take that concept and play with anyone around the world was absolutely genius.
0
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
I put this game in the same realm as the Sims. If I wanted to experience normal, everyday life, I wouldn't be playing a video game. I guess it can be relaxing.
0
Duck Hunt
Loved this game. I remember having it with the marios bros.2 in 1 cartridge. I also remember I had a orjector version of duck hunt as well. The duck would light up on a wall and you got a rifle instead of the handgun. Fun, simpler times.
0
Guitar Hero II
Games like Beat Saber should hold a yearly dedication to this trend setting game. Guitar Hero let me feel like a true rockstar. I know for me personally, Guitar Hero introduced me to a whole section of music I had never heard before.
0
Injustice 2
The injustice games made me feel like I could play Mortal Kombat. The move sets are complex, but more manageable. DC generally does well creating animated stories and games, and this one is no exception. Just keep them away from anything live action.
0
Rock Band 2
This game convinced me I could be a big time singer. 4 stars because the guitar hero circles were better than the rock band rectangles.
0
Tetris
When people talk about games that have held up over time, few games can stand up to Tetris.
0
Dig Dug
I played Dig Dug in a variety pack of games on the N64. The classics continue to hold up and are still challenging today.
0
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Nintendo came back this year with their proven Kirby formula and nailed it once again. Kirby gains some new abilities and revamps a few classic ones. The colors and art style of the levels and the villains are vibrant and fun to watch. I could not put this game down. Two player mode is great to play with a younger child or sibling.
0
Gears of War
This was my favorite FPS game during the 360 days. The story was great and the multiplayer was unique and fun. Few things were as satisfying as finishing off an opponent with the chainsaw.
0
Gears of War 2
Gears 2 was the perfect follow up to Gears 1. The fighting mechanics improved with Chainsaw duels and the added Horde mode added Co-op fun. The story continued to be a huge strength and emotional rollercoaster.
0
BioShock
A creepy and dark adventure. I am still replaying this series on the Switch.
0
Ori and the Blind Forest
The art and music alone would make it a 5 star game. The great gameplay and story are just extra.
0
Pokémon Snap
Only Nintendo can make taking pictures of fictional animals so much fun. I didn't play much of the Pokémon RPGs, but the N64 Pokémon games were always great.
0
Luigi's Mansion
What a fun game with a new concept. I played through this game multiple times in search of the perfect ending.
0
Tetris 99
I don't know if any battle royale win was more satisfying than when I finally got one here.
0
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai
This was my first DBZ game. It was fun, but it had real issues. The Kamehameha was yellow instead of blue, the special moves all required arbitrary inputs, and the game only went through the cell saga.
0
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2
This game only came out a year later, but there were significant improvements to the game. The art style greatly improved. Special techniques came out in a more fluid form and we got the Buu Saga.
0
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3
Everything finally came together here. The graphics, the character selection, the blast battles. A perfect DBZ fighting game.
0
Inside
A great successor to Limbo. Easy to just sit a play through for a few minutes at a time.
0
Banjo-Kazooie
This was one of the most difficult games I played as a child. I remember playing with my parents and writing down all the "facts" in the game guide. This game is still great today.
0
Mario Kart 64
This was my first Kart game. I played it non-stop and thought I was pretty good at it. As an adult, I've learned I am in fact not very good at this game. I don't think it holds up to the updated versions, but it was great for its time.
0
Mario Tennis
I have loved the Mario Tennis series since the N64. This game is fun, easy to pick up, and had a cpu competitive enough to constantly challenge you. Even today, the game is great to play. This game is full of hidden unlockable courses and tournaments, and it was the debut of Waluigi.
0
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
Finally played for the first time last night. It's definitely a fun game and would make a great "private lobby" game.
0
Super Mario Galaxy
Just a beautiful looking game. This was a great upgrade from the previous console's Mario adventure. I distinctly remember just using the flying cap to go around the game lobby.
0
Mario Kart Tour
Maybe I'm just not a mobile game player, but this game didn't capture my attention for more than a few weeks.
0
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
This was my first experience with FPS online multiplayer. The Xbox 360 was the wild west of gaming and lobby room chats, and I loved every minute of it in HS.
0
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
This was the peak of the COD for me personally. I love the story, the gameplay, and of course, squading up with the Boys.
0
Super Smash Bros. 64
The game doesn't hold up to the sequels, but when this game came out, the world changed. This game was such an amazing change in fighting (party game, whatever) and it has one of the best gaming commercials ever made. When it finally comes out on the switch expansion, I'll be excited to play it again with friends.
0
Super Smash Bros. Melee
There was a clear change towards competition with this sequel. More characters, added moves, the induction of spot dodging, all added up into one of best games on the GameCube.
0
Yoshi's Story
I probably like this game more than the average person. I don't need every game I play to be a 10 difficulty. Memorable music, fun art style, and fun replayable levels to this day.
0
Banjo-Tooie
Banjo kazooie one was already challenging and this one came and upped the difficulty still. The size of the game was impressive for the time and the addition of different eggs and multiplayer really let this sequel stand out from the original.
1
Paper Mario
I recently played this again and still enjoyed it for what it was. It's not Mario's most exciting adventure, but if you want to enjoy simple, turn-based combat try it out.
0
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
I feel this game could've given us more. Smash Bros Kirby had a better design and movement. The saving grace here was the ability to combine abilities. Though the combination mechanic wasn't continued, you can still see the influence of this game in newer titles such as The Forgotten Land.
0
Halo: Reach
This was the first Halo I owned and played through. I loved playing the solo game and I had a blast playing online.
0
Pokémon GO
It had its moment, but this ended up being another Pokemon adventure that I was not very in to. The original game that this was skinned over seemed more fun.
0
Apex Legends
Looks cool watching people play, but it was way too fast for me. Played a few and just couldn't figure out what was going on at all.
0
Asteroids
Something about these simple games with simple objectives just works so well. Sit, aim, fire.
0
Super Mario Sunshine
My least enjoyed Mario adventure. The FLUDD mechanics were interesting but this game just seemed overly difficult and suffered from odd Mario camera angles.
0
Left 4 Dead 2
Loved the concept, loved the co-op design, loved the pace. A really fun zombie survival game.
0
Pac-Man
There are still brand new, giant Pac-Man games appearing in arcades today. Nothing more needs to be said about this classic.
0
Mortal Kombat
I knew how to flip forward and kick, and freeze people. That's all I needed 😂
0
Bomberman 64
This is the only Bomberman I knew. I loved it and I loved the design of the villains.
0
Cruis'n USA
Probably my first racing simulator. I can still hear the theme song, and I still remember how difficult the forest level was.
0
Wii Sports
Hours upon hours of fun. This was an absolute home run opening game for a new system.
0
Pokémon Yellow
THIS was my Pokemon game. I finally had a simple way to own all three starters. I also could never bring myself to put Pikachu in Bill's computer.
0
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
I played and loved Dynasty Warriors back on the PS2, so I was really excited to play this game. I just could not get into it. It became a chore just to try and finish the game for the sake of the story.
0
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Maybe it was because I played the remastered version on PS2, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game and its card based battle system. It was genius to create an entire game to connect KH1 and 2 seamlessly.
0
Pitfall
I was too young and had no clue what was happening, but I know I played this alot.
0
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Loved going to my uncle's house because it meant I got to play this game. Weapon codes were always memorized.
0
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
My mom begrudgingly allowed me to buy this as long as I agreed to play with no sound around my younger brothers.
0
Pokémon Stadium
I honestly enjoyed the mini games much more than the actual combat. Seeing Pokémon in 3D though was amazing.
0
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
This is the one I spent the most time playing in the arcades. More characters is always a good thing in my book.
0
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
I think the updated graphics were fun and didn't take away from the fun play style. This was the one I owned o the Xbox 360, so it's probably the one I was best at. Once again, more characters is a good thing.
0
Grand Theft Auto III
I remember seeing this game at a friend's birthday party. I could not believe this level of openness could happen in a video game.
0
Sonic Adventure 2
Legendary music, levels that you can go back and play over and over, and the Chao garden. I spent countless hours on this game. I love everything about it, cheesy dialogue included.
0
Mario Bros.
My main memory of the original Mario gamea is the noise made when Mario jumped. Something about that sound is iconic.
0
Donkey Kong
The first time I played this game was as an extra add on of a game on a later platform. Why was good guy DK capturing a princess? 😂
0
Super Metroid
One is my favorite styles of games. Metroid set the stage for games where you enjoy the ambiance as much as the actual gameplay.
0
Castle Crashers
Originally played this on the Xbox 360 and currently have it on the switch. This is a great hack and slash to play with a group of friends.
0
SimCity 2000
I just didn't understand this game or what the appeal was. Building cities wasn't exciting with for me.
0
Contra
When the entire gaming universe recognizes "the code", you've done something right.
0
Minecraft
I was around when it started, I watched my youngest brother going through it on Xbox 360, I see it now, and it just does nothing for me.
0
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Wielding a lightsaber and force powers with the Wii remote and nunchuk was such a great experience. Game was just a little too short and simple.
0
Assassin's Creed
Few feelings are as great as diving off a building into a pile of hay. I feel like this game really added to the gaming world in general by making platforming and parkour skills really matter in a 3d world. Great character, great story.
0
Assassin's Creed II
Here's another sequel that took a game to the next level. The amount of detail in the recreation of Italy is unmatched in my view. Ezio is the assassin I will always relate the series to.
0
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Even though I thought 2 was better, the addition of multiplayer in this game was amazing. It was a unique way to battle using assassins. I also really enjoyed being able to train assassins.
0
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
This is the final Assassin's Creed for me. It thought the story held up and was a fitting end for Ezio. Being able to use Altair again was a great add on as well.
0
Old School RuneScape
RuneScape was then first MMORPG I ever played. This was such an amazing world that I spent countless hours in. I wish I had saved my original account. I still log in once a year in my phone now.
0
Fallout 3
I admit this review is.tainted by the amount of Skyrim I played first. Somehow the same style game with guns didn't feel as fun. Still a good time, just not a great time.
0
Mario Party
This is a 5 star game simply for the new concept and fun mini games. A must play for a group of friends.
0
Mario Party 2
This is my personal favorite Mario Party. I loved the costumes and the "duel" mini games were my favorite add on.
0
Mario Party 4
Its my turn to be that person. I played Mario Party 4 and 6 the most. Playing mini games with friends is the only reason I give it 4 stars. Mario Party felt too random to me to be fun. I was over the series.
0
Mario Party 6
Same review as 4. Its my turn to be that person. I played Mario Party 4 and 6 the most. Playing mini games with friends is the only reason I give it 4 stars. Mario Party felt too random to me to be fun. I was over the series.
0
Mario Party 8
There were alot of things Nintendo did correctly with the Wii. Mario Party 8 was not one of them. I did not care for the game boards and the Mario Party play style just was not for me. Side note: Going through these reviews, I realized I don't recall playing any of the odd numbered games outside of the original. Childhood me knew these games weren't my thing.
0
Dynasty Warriors 2
Had so much fun with this game. Loved the hack and slash game play and watching the military grow as you battled. Didn't realize all the sequels that exist.
