Am I blinded by nostalgia? Maybe. That won't stop me from rating this 5 stars. Everyone loves to hate on the n64 because of how it aged, but you have to consider the time it was created.

This (along with others like OOT and SM64) were ground breaking visually, and brought on the incredibly fun era of couch co op. Even on our smaller TVs with worse graphics, we spent hours upon hours playing this and smash bros. Sure there are merits and drawbacks to both "eras" of gaming (which is for another discussion), but gaming with your friends and family like this was special.

The courses are all great, even with some of the weird glitches and unintended shortcuts. Honestly those are also really cool to have in a game (to some extent). The iconic rainbow road jump is an awesome example of this. A high risk and reward gamble that is super satisfying to pull off.

Some of the best track music (IMO) in the series. MK8 probably surpasses due to volume of tracks, but perhaps not on a "per track" basis.

The one down side I will mention is that the drifting is very weird and overall controls are a bit tricky to get the hang off. They are sensitive and not the most responsive. But this (like the graphics) seems much worse now only because of comparison and technological advancement.

Also have to shout out the best battle course in all of Mario Kart, Block Fort. The perfect balance of chaotic fun and using skill/strategy.
