Enjoy.

I've still got a lot to get through here but I'm ready to give this five stars. Anyone who longs for the days of 90s Square needs to play this game. The anesthetics and soundtrack alone will reward you. The story is very good and the characters are fun. The quality of life changes over that era are nice: active combat giving increased engagement, jumping and climbing while traveling, good indicators of side quests/treasures. The fighting itself I want to expand upon though: fights are like sequencing puzzles themselves. You need to attack with the right characters and attacks in the right sequence to delay enemy attacks and get the most bang for your buck. It's a really engaging wrinkle for me. I can't see this dropping. Unless I rate wheels. Then I'll probably drop it. This game's version of Gwent is just not fun for me. But it also doesn't seem to matter one lick. Cue the absolutely adore this game gif.
I'm pretty sure this is the game I've seen @roorl play on his stream. I admit, the game looks gorgeous! It may not be my cup of tea, but I can definitely understand why it's so appealing for those who like RPGs!
I don't think any story content is locked behind wheels, for what it's worth. And if you absolutely can't get it, happy to jump on remote play or a twitch stream and coach sometime 😂
I'd say I'm a little over half way done I think and I agree with everything you've said. I will say I use the relic to restore health after each battle. I got tired of constantly cooking!
