NASCAR Rivals
An older game (2022 season) but still plenty of fun to be had with it. Bought it while it was on sale before being de-listed just to have another racing game on the Switch.

The car set ups still aren't as friendly as they were in the NASCAR Thunder series but car set ups are important when racing against the computers as they're fast & much faster than the default set ups.

Online is still being tested on although finding out you can have private lobbies, race with up to 16 people, and all the options that go with setting up a race online is awesome. Downside is you can't race with your custom cars online which makes no sense because there's no risk at having an inappropriate sponsors or anything. Online also has a timer if you join into public lobbies so once the timer hits zero, the (random) race is starting.

Missing the 5th star due to the lack of paint schemes, not being able to race with custom cars online, and only having hosted lobbies versus lobbies that require a passcode to enter.

I understand this game is about to be de-listed at the start of the year due to licensing, so I would say this is a fun racing game that's worth buying for $3.50 if you want to race online on something other than Mario Kart. Rivals is a solid hold-over until NASCAR 25 is released.

F1 23
Beautifully done, the tracks are amazing to drive on, and the cars feel like what you watch race on tv. Can't give it a 5 at the moment because I haven't done more than a couple races or time trials. Hoping to jump into the story mode at some point and maybe that would sway the 5th star.

Color Switch
It's a fun game to play while I'm just killing a few mins whether it be waiting on the kids or something, or a fun toilet game, but overall it's just ok. the hit boxes aren't as consistent, I think the way the levels are set up in a janky fashion, and it's quick to get frustrated with.

Limbo
A fun, simple puzzle game that was recommended to me by the individuals here on Channel 3 after I completed "Inside" (which is the game that came out after "Limbo").

Still currently working through it but the mind games that are played and the different levels of thinking one has to do to get by on some of these levels is challenging at times. Many puzzles I've sat with for 10-15 mins trying to figure out the process only to realize I was being tricked to look one way but the route was another but the wonderful "ah HA!" feeling you get once you figure out how to get by one level never stops feeling great.

Truly recommend this game, especially if you're able to snag this (and/or "Inside") when they're on sale!

Super Mega Baseball 4
This game is a lot of fun, especially with having the ability to adjust the Ego so that you can enjoy playing while also having that little bit of a challenge to it. I love the arcade feel to it where it's not overly serious (especially with being able to knock the pitcher out and the teams players names) and the buttons themselves aren't overly complicated to figure out.

Gettings hits in the game is satisfying, hitting home runs is satisfying, and making big plays in the field is just as satisfying, especially when you're able to lay out and make that play to get a clutch out (or at least rob the batter of a single).

4 stars because .. honestly unsure what would make it a 5-star game as there's probably more for me to dig into so should I do that then I will update this rating as necessary.

Inside
This was a game that kept popping up for me in the store, and I saw little about, & it was always on sale. It being on sale made me skeptical because it was such a drop in price from the sale price that I thought "surely this game is ... not great"

BOY WAS I WRONG!! I went in knowing nothing about it, nothing about who developed it, couldn't tell you the first thing about anything other than the title. From the start, I was sucked in. There was no tutorial, no hints, nothing. Quickly died. Slowly figured out what does what, what meant what, and there was one part in particular that I was stuck on for a good while. I finally realized I was thinking about it all the wrong way and quickly solved the puzzle soon after.

Just a fun game from start to finish, and boy the finish came out of nowhere. The finish came & I found myself thinkin "that's only level one, right? now we go to a different world, a level 2, right?" and the game was over.

So much fun playing this game. Again: I bought it on sale for like $2 on the eShop on Switch and this game is every bit of worth it if you buy it at full price!!!

Rocket Racing
I've put off rating this game for a while because originally I wanted to give it a three. It was fun, but a lot of question marks. I didn't understand the drift mechanics in terms of maximizing potential. People were just so fast, straight gone most races, and I wasn't sure where to look to learn to get better.

Insert time trials. Time trials and time trial challenges changed everything for me. All of a sudden, every question I had, every little thing that didn't make sense started to make sense, & it just suddenly clicked for me.

The cars drive so smoothly. Being able to flip around from surface to surface, hitting boosts, maintaining speed with drifts. The tracks are so much fun, vary in difficulty. The ranked lobby system is so nice as well because you either race with your rank, or you race above your rank & quickly advance to get to the difficulty you should be racing against.

The boosts are such a strategy move. How quickly can you build one up? How long do you want to wait to build up your next? Do you want to save them for later use back to back, or use it at specific places?

The cars drive so nice, the tracks are beautiful, the racing is so much fun, the time trials are very very helpful along with the most recent update to time trials with being able to quickly reset, see times, and go against your ghost. There are things I tried to take from Mario Kart (in terms of drifting) that *DO NOT APPLY TO ROCKET RACING* which was something I had to realize & learn to also help get better.

I feel like it's a steep learning curve to get from step one to step two, but once you get to step two: the curve/steps after that are significantly less steep (almost flat).

Super Mario Bros. Wonder
I've read the reviews from other individuals and I won't say anything that has already been said. I find myself playing this game while remembering what it was like to play Super Mario World growing up, and just how amazing I thought the game was because as noted in a "What Are Your Three" episode: it's Mario, you get to ride a dinosaur, plus you get all these cool power ups and this game did not disappoint.

I honestly didn't realize it as it was happening but my son and I, on different Switches, spent time bonding over this game as there were times where he would ask for help because he just didn't know where to look to find a Wonder Seed, or he couldn't figure out how to get past a certain spot. Late in the game, he's watching me play on mine and he asked "how are you so great at this game?" to which I laughed and said "experience, man. I just know to check everywhere" and then he responded with "Thanks for helping me with my game, daddy. I hope I'm good like you one day" & that alone, that moment alone, next to watching his celebration when he won his first crown in Fall Guys is a moment worth 5 stars that I'll never forget.

The people responsible for this game, each individual, did an outstanding job and this will be a game that defines the younger generations growth into gaming. I don't know if this could be topped, but man am I excited to find out. I know we just finished talking about MK9 too. I hope they can take all the WONDERful ideas they took to make this game the masterpiece that it is and apply it to a mindblowing MK9.

Crossy Road
Like that there are themes, simple concept, can also move backwards if needed. Not too much more going on, just a Frogger variant with it's own little twists. Solid game if you're looking for something to waste 5-10 mins.
0
Surf
Cute little time waster. While super simple, have questions that would like the game to have answers to in the instructions or the details. Could see where it may get boring after running it for a while trying to avoid obstacles & monsters.
0
Coffee Golf
Unsure what the game would need for me to add the 5th star. Pretty fun little mobile golf game where you only get one round to play per day. You play on 5 holes & there's only 3 clubs: driver, wedge, and putter. You can watch ads to replay the round and try again, but the general idea is one round a day (like you play it while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee, hence the name). You can add friends & check your score for the day vs their score as well!

F-ZERO 99
I had a feeling this game would be fun, and it's even more fun than I thought it would be. 98 other individuals just slamming around while you're trying to keep your speed up while also not get blown up, all while trying to finish in front of 4 rivals for some extra XP. Not to mention the extra "skins" you can unlock which aren't overly difficult (ex: use one of the machines 10 times, new color). Also a huge perk that the game is free (to active Nintendo Switch Online subscribers).

The ONLY thing I wish that it would allow us to do is lobby up with friends to race each other rather than timing searching for a lobby perfectly (my kids & I raced maybe 10 races on Sunday and were in the same lobby 9 times).

Giving it a 4-star for now as I would like to see a little more from it, but just know when I say 4 star, that it's like a 4.99999.

Friday the 13th: The Game
This is a game that I wish caught on a little more. I'm not sure why it didn't, but it's a lot of fun to play, especially with a group of friends. It's dark, it's scary, there's a dude looking to cut you up or put you in a bag & smash you against a tree .. or worse. The anticipation of waiting while the game loads to find out if you're Jason or a camper, proximity chat, then using Jason's super abilities. This game is a lot of fun and one that I would definitely play more of if there was a solid base to it.
0
Disney Speedstorm
4 stars for now based on characters, authentic looking (& well built) Disney tracks, Disney songs during races, the ability to upgrade karts/parts/characters as well as unlock characters in their "battle pass". Didn't go 5 stars for 2 reasons. 1: The racing doesn't feel fast (yet). If I had to compare it, it feels like I'm racing "Mario Kart 100cc" speed but I'm also like 2 chapters in in the story mode. 2: Unknown how multiplayer works/plays, unsure how it compares to Kart (bc there's no avoiding comparing the two).

Update to come.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer
I would imagine that this game is as close to what it's like to be involved in one of these races. Graphics are solid for the time period it happened, easy to pick up & hard to put down.

Cuphead
Simple run & gun mechanics for a game that is anything but simple. Thought the difficulty was being exaggerated. This game doesn't care to make you feel good. Old school complicated, which gaming lacks (imo). Load in, good luck, and die .. on repeat. Frustrating, beautiful, painful, exciting, complicated, but (so far) very much worth it.

UFC 2009 Undisputed
Spent many, many, many late nights playing this game with/against friends. Really solid game when it came out & probably the best one as I wish later installments hadn't messed with the controls so much. Loved using Anderson Silva. Claim to fame here is winning a local tourney in my hometown!

Hot Wheels Unleashed
Bought this for the kids when it came out because of how much we played with hot wheels tracks. The driving is ok, it's pretty plain though and got old after a bit. Would love to have the time to build tracks on it, probably would appreciate it more if I was playing on something other than the Switch.

NCAA Football 06
Marcus Vick and the VT Hokies were such a fun team to use. High powered, fast offense with a hard hitting defense. The college games were always the best and even once they make their return, will still be better than Madden.

If there was one game I loved more than the 2nd, it was definitely this one. Such a great game that, again, I spent more time fooling around on than actual storyline completion. It is a game that if remade, I would immediately buy it & fall right back into the fun that can be had playing it.

WCW/nWo Revenge
Ya wanna know something, brothers?! We're talking about the best wrestling game that came out on the N64! Not only is it the best, but also the best-selling wrestling game for the N64! Ya know, even though WWF was winning the Monday Night Wars, WCW/nWo Revenge still held it's own. It had a larger roster than World Tour! It had championship mode! You could load it up, eat your snacks, and run wild on your friends for hours & hours of fun in front of all the screaming fans! I still own this game even today and to quote the Hulkamaniac: that's 4-life, brother! *plays VooDoo Child* *strums controller like a guitar while walking away*

NBA Street
I had too much fun with this game & this is one of those that they could remake now, and I just don't think it would be as good as the original. Many hours were spent playing this game, so many laughs, & the crazy dunks were always so fun to pull off!

Fortnite
This game can't not have a 5. I thought it was stupid, a kids game by the looks of it with its art & animations .. then the Ninja/Drake/Travis Scott/Juju stage happened. I moved to Italy & had time on my hands, the game was free, why not? Immediately hooked. All I wanted to do with the boys was chase VicRoys. The building, the mechanics, the maps, the live events, even befriended a former (SB winning) Packers player over this game. Bought Funkos, hung a battle bus in my game room .. telling you: addicted. Actually I'm pretty sure Fortnite was the only game I played from 2018-2020 either on xbox or bluetooth connecting my xbox controller to my phone & playing on phone. Beating challenges, collecting skins, playing with the boys no matter where I was in the world. The only reason I fell off was bc of the Apple/Epic beef + my wife not wanting our kids exposed to the game (not a fan of shooting games). This game is soooo much fun, continues to impress with the changes/additions, & is so addicting.

Grand Theft Auto V
If you said “travis, you can only choose 3 games to play for the rest of your life”, GTAV would be one of those games. I loved getting online with friends and competing in races, drug deals, holding up liquor stores, etc just laughing the whole time. The downside: If you don’t play enough then everyone gets the top notch gear to grief you & takes away the fun. I think of GTAV often, and the year I spent in Korea playing with friends & family back stateside as a way to still hang out.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
I want to give this a 5. Admittedly I brought this to work during the pandemic when there was little to do to entertain folks who came through our office. Set up cones, different courses, it's a good time. The only thing I would say is it's one of those where it's MORE fun if you have a second kart to race against. Racing the computer tends to get a little boring & the only reason one would keep racing them is to unlock other tracks, items, kart, costumes, and horns. Obviously works on a hard surface too & in rooms with plenty of space, which our home currently doesn't have so I haven't touched my karts in some time since moving back to the States.

GoldenEye
The one game where I didn't mind running the story mode if no one else was around, but loved running a FFA against the boys. So many late nights going match after match. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The first CoD that I played online. Rented it with a friend thinking multiplayer meant we could both play, but passing the controller as we both died hundreds of times was so much fun. It was new, it was different, but didn't have the internet connection at my parents to want this since I couldn't play it. Eventually went off to college where roommates were heavy into this so I felt deeper into the series, loved this more than Madden & eventually spent more hours than I care to admit to playing this game & all that followed (up until Advanced Warfare).

Super Mario Party
Gave it a 5 strictly because I could play with Shy Guy. Also, guessing that Mamba was right as the high 5's thing is a little gimmicky but having kids, watching them with that was a lot of fun. This game was played a lot during down time during pandemic & my favorite of the two Mario Party games on Switch (that I've played, I don't think there's a 3rd).

I feel like 3 stars might be a little too low, but it's definitely not a 5. The family & I would grind Super Mario Party, especially during quarantine. This one just wasn't near as fun for some reason. A lot of cool mini games but overall: Super Mario Party > Mario Party Superstars.

Admittedly I've thought of getting back into it for the events hosted with this game. My kids love this game was well. My youngest just wants to hit the ball & my oldest understands scoring, but they love driving their car around & hitting people.

Lego Marvel Superheroes
I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. I downloaded the demo thinking nothing of it, but the kids were in a phase where they wanted everything Marvel. They were all about the heroes, here's a game, why not? The played the demo mission on repeat so much, soooo so much that I eventually just bought it. They went from replaying the demo mission to replaying the whole story. They wanted to unlock all the characters, do side missions, everything. This game, even for me, was so much fun and one that I would recommend to people as a fun game, almost a must-have, to play with the kids that isn't Mario-related. I would almost bet that if I hooked the xbox back up, the boys would jump right back into this & probably not touch their Switch for a few weeks.

NFL Blitz
At 30 years old, I bought another N64. This was the first of four games I bought for it. So many summer nights were spent doing tournaments with friends, just beating the crap out of each other. I once made someone cry because I would roam & take out their WR each time the ball was thrown to them, just bullied the dude. With Blitz, you either learned how to play defense or you relied heavily on the game being a shootout.

Mario Kart 64
This was my reintroduction to Mario Kart as I didn't enjoy the SNES version. I enjoyed playing GoldenEye or WCW/nWo with friends but I LOVED Mario Kart. Among Us
Thought I'd be in the minority here but this game is definitely at its most fun when played with a group. Playing with a random lobby of people isn't as exciting, especially dealing with those who won't listen to reason or the people who just troll the whole time (i.e.: constantly mashing the meeting button for no reason).
