Rocket Racing
I've put off rating this game for a while because originally I wanted to give it a three. It was fun, but a lot of question marks. I didn't understand the drift mechanics in terms of maximizing potential. People were just so fast, straight gone most races, and I wasn't sure where to look to learn to get better.

Insert time trials. Time trials and time trial challenges changed everything for me. All of a sudden, every question I had, every little thing that didn't make sense started to make sense, & it just suddenly clicked for me.

The cars drive so smoothly. Being able to flip around from surface to surface, hitting boosts, maintaining speed with drifts. The tracks are so much fun, vary in difficulty. The ranked lobby system is so nice as well because you either race with your rank, or you race above your rank & quickly advance to get to the difficulty you should be racing against.

The boosts are such a strategy move. How quickly can you build one up? How long do you want to wait to build up your next? Do you want to save them for later use back to back, or use it at specific places?

The cars drive so nice, the tracks are beautiful, the racing is so much fun, the time trials are very very helpful along with the most recent update to time trials with being able to quickly reset, see times, and go against your ghost. There are things I tried to take from Mario Kart (in terms of drifting) that *DO NOT APPLY TO ROCKET RACING* which was something I had to realize & learn to also help get better.

I feel like it's a steep learning curve to get from step one to step two, but once you get to step two: the curve/steps after that are significantly less steep (almost flat).

Super Mario Bros. Wonder
I've read the reviews from other individuals and I won't say anything that has already been said. I find myself playing this game while remembering what it was like to play Super Mario World growing up, and just how amazing I thought the game was because as noted in a "What Are Your Three" episode: it's Mario, you get to ride a dinosaur, plus you get all these cool power ups and this game did not disappoint.

I honestly didn't realize it as it was happening but my son and I, on different Switches, spent time bonding over this game as there were times where he would ask for help because he just didn't know where to look to find a Wonder Seed, or he couldn't figure out how to get past a certain spot. Late in the game, he's watching me play on mine and he asked "how are you so great at this game?" to which I laughed and said "experience, man. I just know to check everywhere" and then he responded with "Thanks for helping me with my game, daddy. I hope I'm good like you one day" & that alone, that moment alone, next to watching his celebration when he won his first crown in Fall Guys is a moment worth 5 stars that I'll never forget.

The people responsible for this game, each individual, did an outstanding job and this will be a game that defines the younger generations growth into gaming. I don't know if this could be topped, but man am I excited to find out. I know we just finished talking about MK9 too. I hope they can take all the WONDERful ideas they took to make this game the masterpiece that it is and apply it to a mindblowing MK9.

Crossy Road
Like that there are themes, simple concept, can also move backwards if needed. Not too much more going on, just a Frogger variant with it's own little twists. Solid game if you're looking for something to waste 5-10 mins.
0
Surf
Cute little time waster. While super simple, have questions that would like the game to have answers to in the instructions or the details. Could see where it may get boring after running it for a while trying to avoid obstacles & monsters.
0
Coffee Golf
Unsure what the game would need for me to add the 5th star. Pretty fun little mobile golf game where you only get one round to play per day. You play on 5 holes & there's only 3 clubs: driver, wedge, and putter. You can watch ads to replay the round and try again, but the general idea is one round a day (like you play it while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee, hence the name). You can add friends & check your score for the day vs their score as well!

F-ZERO 99
I had a feeling this game would be fun, and it's even more fun than I thought it would be. 98 other individuals just slamming around while you're trying to keep your speed up while also not get blown up, all while trying to finish in front of 4 rivals for some extra XP. Not to mention the extra "skins" you can unlock which aren't overly difficult (ex: use one of the machines 10 times, new color). Also a huge perk that the game is free (to active Nintendo Switch Online subscribers).

The ONLY thing I wish that it would allow us to do is lobby up with friends to race each other rather than timing searching for a lobby perfectly (my kids & I raced maybe 10 races on Sunday and were in the same lobby 9 times).

Giving it a 4-star for now as I would like to see a little more from it, but just know when I say 4 star, that it's like a 4.99999.

Friday the 13th: The Game
This is a game that I wish caught on a little more. I'm not sure why it didn't, but it's a lot of fun to play, especially with a group of friends. It's dark, it's scary, there's a dude looking to cut you up or put you in a bag & smash you against a tree .. or worse. The anticipation of waiting while the game loads to find out if you're Jason or a camper, proximity chat, then using Jason's super abilities. This game is a lot of fun and one that I would definitely play more of if there was a solid base to it.

Disney Speedstorm
4 stars for now based on characters, authentic looking (& well built) Disney tracks, Disney songs during races, the ability to upgrade karts/parts/characters as well as unlock characters in their "battle pass". Didn't go 5 stars for 2 reasons. 1: The racing doesn't feel fast (yet). If I had to compare it, it feels like I'm racing "Mario Kart 100cc" speed but I'm also like 2 chapters in in the story mode. 2: Unknown how multiplayer works/plays, unsure how it compares to Kart (bc there's no avoiding comparing the two).

Update to come.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer
I would imagine that this game is as close to what it's like to be involved in one of these races. Graphics are solid for the time period it happened, easy to pick up & hard to put down.
(fwiw: I have only done the time attack on the retrogames website. have no played the N64 or Switch version nor have I played the version dropping on xbox this week)
0
Fruit Ninja
Simple concept, good time waster, but for some reason it just isn't as fun to me as it was 10+ years ago. This used to be played heavily trying to top friends high scores. May have something to do with how far mobile games have come.
0
Marvel Snap
Can't stop playing it. Just when a meta is found out & you run with it, the whole game changes. Adding new strats, new cards, new locations. Still hasn't gotten stale, still climbing the ranks.
0
Cuphead
Simple run & gun mechanics for a game that is anything but simple. Thought the difficulty was being exaggerated. This game doesn't care to make you feel good. Old school complicated, which gaming lacks (imo). Load in, good luck, and die .. on repeat. Frustrating, beautiful, painful, exciting, complicated, but (so far) very much worth it.
0
WCW Mayhem
As someone who never had an N64 (until much later in life), I bought this thinking it would rival WCW/nWo games on N64 and it .. disappointed. Fun for a bit but wasn't the same.
0
UFC 2009 Undisputed
Spent many, many, many late nights playing this game with/against friends. Really solid game when it came out & probably the best one as I wish later installments hadn't messed with the controls so much. Loved using Anderson Silva. Claim to fame here is winning a local tourney in my hometown!
0
Rugby 06
This was a sport that always interested me and I learn best by doing. I bought this game to learn the sport of Rugby. I definitely learned, don't remember anything, but learned more about the sport while having a ton of fun doing so!
0
SOCOM II U.S. Navy SEALs
Remember saving my money to buy this one, especially for the headset. Such a progressive game, such a learning experience and actually helped me later on after joining the military 😂
0
NCAA Football 2004
This was one of the first NCAA football games that I started using the option in & boy was it a game changer! The atmosphere in each of the stadiums, the bands playing fight songs .. just the best.
0
NCAA Football 2002
This was probably the first game I bought for PS2. Remember vividly buying it & how clean the cover looked with Chris Weinke on display. I'll probably say it forever: the college football games are way better than any Madden ever.
0
Hot Wheels Unleashed
Bought this for the kids when it came out because of how much we played with hot wheels tracks. The driving is ok, it's pretty plain though and got old after a bit. Would love to have the time to build tracks on it, probably would appreciate it more if I was playing on something other than the Switch.
0
NCAA Football 06
Marcus Vick and the VT Hokies were such a fun team to use. High powered, fast offense with a hard hitting defense. The college games were always the best and even once they make their return, will still be better than Madden.
0
Need for Speed: Underground
If there was one game I loved more than the 2nd, it was definitely this one. Such a great game that, again, I spent more time fooling around on than actual storyline completion. It is a game that if remade, I would immediately buy it & fall right back into the fun that can be had playing it.
0
Bejeweled Blitz
solid time-waster, definitely a game that I'm not quick enough to be good at with all the combinations that need to be hit to rack up a really high score
0
Red Faction
Remember playing this first on a demo disc that I had mailed to me thanks to a magazine subscription I had. Thought the game was fun, bought it, eventually gave up after a while as the storyline to me just kind of fizzled out.
0
Need for Speed: Underground 2
I lived on this game when it came out, man. Like, I spent so much time playing this game while not doing anything towards the storyline. Such a classic & I hope it gets remade!

WCW/nWo Revenge
Ya wanna know something, brothers?! We're talking about the best wrestling game that came out on the N64! Not only is it the best, but also the best-selling wrestling game for the N64! Ya know, even though WWF was winning the Monday Night Wars, WCW/nWo Revenge still held it's own. It had a larger roster than World Tour! It had championship mode! You could load it up, eat your snacks, and run wild on your friends for hours & hours of fun in front of all the screaming fans! I still own this game even today and to quote the Hulkamaniac: that's 4-life, brother! *plays VooDoo Child* *strums controller like a guitar while walking away*
0
WCW vs. nWo: World Tour
Not to copy @laughatbrian but he said it. Remember when this game came out & had the entrances, special moves, like .. this was one of “the” games for my group. & it’s nWo 4-Life!
0
Wave Race 64
I mean honestly it may not be a 5 star but for someone who played it only a week for the Time Trial: the game ran smooth, the controls were smooth, the graphics were really nice (by that time periods standards), and the game was a lot of fun.
0
Asteroids
Another game I played for many hours but on our first desktop. This might have been the first computer game I ever played.
0
Retro Bowl
Fun game to play on the phone. Easy to pick up, easy to understand, and the team building is a lot of fun to do too. They've added a lot since I started playing, & I don't really have any complaints. Just a nice, chill little football game.
0
Cars 3: Driven to Win
Just an easy racing game for the kids. Story mode isn't overly complicated but they could have done more with it than they did. Battle mode is a lot of fun too. Enjoyed playing it when we were mainly using Xbox, bought it for the Switch when we got Switches but don't think we've played it near as much as on Xbox.
0
F1 Clash (Formerly F1 Manager)
Solid way to pass some time while having to think strategically. Nice grind to level up drivers and cars to find the perfect set ups for each class of races you take part in in duels. Nothing overly complicated. Will say the matchmaking at times can be harsh, doesn’t always make the most sense.
0
Forza Motorsport 7
This game got a lot of play during the pandemic, especially when my boys started racing games. We loved it and still play it from time to time even today!
0
Goat Simulator
This was a game where you're like "this is dumb, how can it be fun?" and then 5 hours later you want to be a goat in your next life.
0
Blitz: The League
I mean, I get the idea, solid concept, fun to play ... but does not beat the N64 Blitz.
0
NFL Street
This game was one that I went into looking for a replacement for NFL Blitz on N64. While I say Blitz on N64 is better (the best), it's a solid replacement for it when looking for just a fun type of football to play that wasn't 11-on-11.
0
NBA Street
I had too much fun with this game & this is one of those that they could remake now, and I just don't think it would be as good as the original. Many hours were spent playing this game, so many laughs, & the crazy dunks were always so fun to pull off!
0
Fortnite
This game can't not have a 5. I thought it was stupid, a kids game by the looks of it with its art & animations .. then the Ninja/Drake/Travis Scott/Juju stage happened. I moved to Italy & had time on my hands, the game was free, why not? Immediately hooked. All I wanted to do with the boys was chase VicRoys. The building, the mechanics, the maps, the live events, even befriended a former (SB winning) Packers player over this game. Bought Funkos, hung a battle bus in my game room .. telling you: addicted. Actually I'm pretty sure Fortnite was the only game I played from 2018-2020 either on xbox or bluetooth connecting my xbox controller to my phone & playing on phone. Beating challenges, collecting skins, playing with the boys no matter where I was in the world. The only reason I fell off was bc of the Apple/Epic beef + my wife not wanting our kids exposed to the game (not a fan of shooting games). This game is soooo much fun, continues to impress with the changes/additions, & is so addicting.
0
Mario Tennis Aces
Underrated game that either doesn't or hasn't gotten enough attention. Nintendo does really well with creating these Mario Tennis games as I bought this one hoping it was as fun as it was on N64 & it definitely was.
0
Grand Theft Auto V
If you said “travis, you can only choose 3 games to play for the rest of your life”, GTAV would be one of those games. I loved getting online with friends and competing in races, drug deals, holding up liquor stores, etc just laughing the whole time. The downside: If you don’t play enough then everyone gets the top notch gear to grief you & takes away the fun. I think of GTAV often, and the year I spent in Korea playing with friends & family back stateside as a way to still hang out.
0
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
By the time this came out, Scarface was my favorite movie & Scarface (the game) didn’t exist yet. I knew codes by heart & had maps memorized better than the layout of my hometown.
0
Grand Theft Auto III
This game will always hold a special place in my heart. I don’t even remember how old I was, but I remember the first time I watched someone beat the shit out of a civilian, steal his car, then mow down people with a quick drive by then thinking “shit, games like this exist!?” I had to be maybe 13, & thankfully my parents weren’t aware of what this game was about 🤣
0
Mario Golf: Super Rush
I enjoy this game strictly for online play with friends and playing with my kids. Helped my oldest son understand golf (explaining power shots aren’t real was fun though). Outside of online play with our season group, don’t really play it too often.
0
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The first game I played online religiously in college. 10pm to 5am ground war matches was normal. This is really the greatest CoD ever and one of my top 5 games I’ve ever played.
0
Mario Kart 8
This is the first Mario Kart I've played since MK64. Originally got it during the pandemic for the kids, was immediately sucked back in to the hype of MK64 days. Such a wonderful game, fun for all ages, and with the addition of the 48 tracks, I don't know how future Mario Karts will top Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
0
NCAA Football 14
I grew up on NCAA games. Being from the South, we're more about college athletics than pro. Only reason I got heavy into Madden like I did was because they stopped making the NCAA football (& basketball) games.
0
Pitfall
I was young, but remember playing the Sega Genesis version. My mom loved it, I never knew why, but I would spent time with her completing levels.
0
Donkey Kong Country
I loved this game as a kid, I love this game as an adult. Any time I ever went to my grandparents house, I would always look for ways to be able to play this game. Pretty sure my grandparents only had a Nintendo for use of the grandkids, but those are memories I hold with me.
0
NFL Blitz
At 30 years old, I bought another N64. This was the first of four games I bought for it. So many summer nights were spent doing tournaments with friends, just beating the crap out of each other. I once made someone cry because I would roam & take out their WR each time the ball was thrown to them, just bullied the dude. With Blitz, you either learned how to play defense or you relied heavily on the game being a shootout.
0
God of War (2005)
This is my favorite God of War. Probably because it was my first and I had no idea what to expect going into it. I was completely blown away by how well the game played, the graphics, the gore, and just how fun it was.
0
Tomb Raider (1996)
Remember this being a game I played while growing up but something that I didn't really get into because the challenges of it all bored me. Had I been a little older, I likely would've enjoyed it way more but this is the only Tomb Raider I ever played.
0
GoldenEye
The one game where I didn't mind running the story mode if no one else was around, but loved running a FFA against the boys. So many late nights going match after match. My personal favorite memory of the game is hearing a friend sing TLC's "Waterfalls" while standing on a waterfall, killing us one by one as we all ran through the door/opening trying to kill him.
0
Duck Hunt
I was but a child, shooting at the screen & spraying rounds everywhere having no real idea what was going on (other than shoot the ducks) but having so much fun with parents & siblings.
0
Rocket League
One of those games that I thought I was more than decent at, but once I got online ... nope. So much fun, and wish I had more time to get into it like I want to to become more decent at it. Admittedly I've thought of getting back into it for the events hosted with this game. My kids love this game was well. My youngest just wants to hit the ball & my oldest understands scoring, but they love driving their car around & hitting people.
0
Mario Kart 64
This was my reintroduction to Mario Kart as I didn't enjoy the SNES version. I enjoyed playing GoldenEye or WCW/nWo with friends but I LOVED Mario Kart. It was always the pick for me when it came to finding something to play. It's racing, it's Mario & friends, & you get to use items as weapons .. what more could you want? Another game I picked back up & played when I bought an N64 a few years ago (& mainly used as a drinking game)
0
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
My kids played this demo A LOT when we'd go to Target. Eventually caved & bought it for them, we had so much fun all playing together. Being able to sit and talk with them, work through puzzles and problems, also while having the occasional laugh over something in the game is something I'll always cherish and why this game holds a special place in my gaming library.
0
Call of Duty: Black Ops
4 because of Zombies, otherwise only played it as much as I did because it was new & the game everyone moved on to when it was released.
0
Mario Party Superstars
I feel like 3 stars might be a little too low, but it's definitely not a 5. The family & I would grind Super Mario Party, especially during quarantine. This one just wasn't near as fun for some reason. A lot of cool mini games but overall: Super Mario Party > Mario Party Superstars.
0
Mario Party
My first experience to Mario Party and I talked about it for years. Once we finally got a Switch, I bought Super Mario Party because of the fun I had with friends playing the original!
0
Among Us
Thought I'd be in the minority here but this game is definitely at its most fun when played with a group. Playing with a random lobby of people isn't as exciting, especially dealing with those who won't listen to reason or the people who just troll the whole time (i.e.: constantly mashing the meeting button for no reason).
0
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
Just started playing but have no issues with it, it's as fun as it looks. My kids love watching me get tossed around by the maps or counting how many people have qualified to add to the stress of me needing to make it. All around fun game & I haven't even played with a squad of folks I know yet.
0
Lego DC Super-Villains
This was one of the first LEGO games bought for the kids & it did not disappoint. I wasn't sure what all to expect from it, but bought it when the deluxe edition was on sale & it blew me away. Definitely recommend this for the kids if you're looking for a fun multiplayer game!
0
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2
Not as fun or addicting as the first. Bought this because there was no part 1 on Switch (we have part 1 on xbox) and it just didn't live up to the first. It's just ok, not one that I would recommend to folks but if someone were to buy it (especially all the times it goes on sale) then I probably wouldn't talk them out of it.
0
Lego Marvel Superheroes
I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. I downloaded the demo thinking nothing of it, but the kids were in a phase where they wanted everything Marvel. They were all about the heroes, here's a game, why not? The played the demo mission on repeat so much, soooo so much that I eventually just bought it. They went from replaying the demo mission to replaying the whole story. They wanted to unlock all the characters, do side missions, everything. This game, even for me, was so much fun and one that I would recommend to people as a fun game, almost a must-have, to play with the kids that isn't Mario-related. I would almost bet that if I hooked the xbox back up, the boys would jump right back into this & probably not touch their Switch for a few weeks.
0
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
I want to give this a 5. Admittedly I brought this to work during the pandemic when there was little to do to entertain folks who came through our office. Set up cones, different courses, it's a good time. The only thing I would say is it's one of those where it's MORE fun if you have a second kart to race against. Racing the computer tends to get a little boring & the only reason one would keep racing them is to unlock other tracks, items, kart, costumes, and horns. Obviously works on a hard surface too & in rooms with plenty of space, which our home currently doesn't have so I haven't touched my karts in some time since moving back to the States.
0
New Super Mario Bros. U
Another game my kids played a bit of and turned into us buying and beating the game. Great for teaching the little ones communication & teamwork, all around good time throughout the whole game (& one that up to four can play at once, unlike the LEGO games).
0
Super Mario 3D World
This game hooked my kids when they played the demo at Target. That's all they talked about doing & again, like Super Mario U, this is a fun time for all that helps with the communication and kids learning to work as a team. So well done, and no issues with the game at all. Definitely recommend for those looking for a game for their kid(s).
0
Super Mario Party
Gave it a 5 strictly because I could play with Shy Guy. Also, guessing that Mamba was right as the high 5's thing is a little gimmicky but having kids, watching them with that was a lot of fun. This game was played a lot during down time during pandemic & my favorite of the two Mario Party games on Switch (that I've played, I don't think there's a 3rd).
0
F1 2021
I just love racing games, racing runs in my blood. This game, once you learn set ups and lines, is so much fun & the feel of this game is so smooth. Really wish they had F1 games on Switch, that's really my only issue.
0
Star Wars Battlefront (2015)
Bought this expecting a story mode. Bought it because I was also into shooters at the time & not really playing much else. Wasn't really impressed by it, rarely played it.
0
Batman: Arkham City
Bought the Arkham games while I was stationed in South America & the only system I had on me was my PS3. These games absolutely bring the goods!
0
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The first CoD that I played online. Rented it with a friend thinking multiplayer meant we could both play, but passing the controller as we both died hundreds of times was so much fun. It was new, it was different, but didn't have the internet connection at my parents to want this since I couldn't play it. Eventually went off to college where roommates were heavy into this so I felt deeper into the series, loved this more than Madden & eventually spent more hours than I care to admit to playing this game & all that followed (up until Advanced Warfare).
