"I have to say this is possibly the worst aging system besides the Wii U, but that one wasn't even good at the time. That said still 5 stars. I'll never forget turning on Mario 64 for the first time, Ocarina, Goldeneye, 4 player games, all of that. Top tier."
"This is my go-to retro console. Even still, if I want to have a retro gaming night with friends, this will get pulled out and the box of cartridges. Such a great system. Dumb controller but great system."
"I absolutely love the N64! Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Rogue Squadron - all games I still enjoy today!
As much as I enjoyed 2D platforming, I absolutely fell in love with the 3D collectathons!
And what a genius move allowing for 4 controllers (even if they’re awkward by today’s standards). So many great memories of playing party games with friends!"
"Got this for Christmas the year it came out. My parents not being gamers (common if you were born in the century) didn’t know it didn’t come with game like the SNES. I road my bike to Blockbuster and ran in know on Christmas Day the place would be packed with people getting N64 games. There was only one title with copies left. Star Wars Shadows of The Empire. What and epic game. After playing the Hoth level I told myself graphics don’t get any better than this. Lots of good memories I can easily remember since I was older when this came out. The fact more than two people was a life saver for parents I imagine to keep the fighting to a minimum on how’s for next. "
"Begged for one but got a PS One instead. Didn't stop my from playing constantly and friends houses. Goldeneye, perfect dark, kart and smash good to see nintendo still had good titles from the SNES. Will never forget the rumble pack!"
"This system brought us into a new age in gaming it felt like. Introduced 4 players at a time on a single console. 007: Goldeneye, Zelda OoT and MM, Mario Kart 64, the list goes on. The introduction of rumble with Rumble cartridges. Fun colored consoles and controllers available. The thing was as durable as it comes. "
"I don't think the games for this aged as well as the SNES since they broke so much ground for 3D games, but I had a blast with this. My love of Mario Kart began with MK64, and I still consider Ocarina of Time a top 5 game. I have 2 brothers, and before the N64 we rarely got to play games all together. N64 fixed that - we stayed up late competing at Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Mario Party, Smash, and probably a dozen more multiplayer classics. The N64 got a second life in college for me. The Gamecube was already out at the time, but the N64 library was better. N64 in a dorm room is perfection - by the end of freshman year, I swear everyone in my dorm swung by regularly to play smash with us."
"This was my Legend of Zelda machine. I played that game so many times as a kid. Beat it, restart, and see how fast I can beat it the next time. Mario 64, Star Fox, and Mario Kart all hold a special place in my heart. "
"Innovation, this is what Nintendo is known for. Crazy controllers, which started here. yes, the stick was to help with 3D movement, but it was just awkward. The back button was great though, and should be a major part of any good controller. Truly an amazing system, but expensive to develop for due to the cartridge system. I argue to this day that cartridges are better than discs though, as the load times are faster. But this is mostly a moot point now, as most systems have internal hard drives, or even solid state drives now. "
"Remember playing this at a friends for the first time. Granted, I had a PlayStation so going from only having 2 controllers (before the "V" hook up to add multiplayer) to having 4 was a game changer. Having an N64 was the system to have when I was growing up for Mario Kart, NFL Blitz, WCW/nWo, and so many other games we played late into the nights during summer breaks. Still even a solid console to have & play today!"
"Strange controller aside, the N64 sweet the stage for the next level of gaming. Super Mario 64 graphics were unheard of. We also all learned to play 4 players on one TV. Banjo Kazooie, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, the games that came from this system are all time hits. "
"N64 again was a turning point in gaming for me. We could now play 4 player instead of 2 player. The games had better graphics, the games were more fun. Also, we had a green N64 which i always thought was super cool. Spent many hours gaming as a young kid with this system."
"My first true gaming system. Mario 64 was an experience like no other. My dad and I would play Mario kart all the time together. It introduced us to Zelda OoT, which is arguably the best game of all time. Goldeneye, which was our first true test of friendships. This may go down as my favorite console of all time"
