Super Mario World - had to play through again in honour of C3 March Madness!
Uncharted - for the @video-game-book-club. Hopefully we do the rest of the series soon!
God of War - finally started!
Enhance, Target, and Trivia, obviously!
FN, FG, and RL all because of C3 but Fortnite is the one I play most by far.
Only have the final final test left for Wonder.
RyanMac and I are playing through DKC2 when we have the chance to hang out.
Diddy Kong Racing cause it's the GOAT! Got to love these weekly time trials!
Playing
These are the games you currently have in your rotation.
Finally got to start Wonder.
DKR (this time in mirror mode) in anticipation of future quests.
Super Mario World in honour of C3 March Madness!
Uncharted series for the @video-game-book-club. Hopefully we get to do the rest of the series soon.
2024 Games Started
A list for games that you started playing in 2024.
Mario Odyssey was the big one for me this year! After years of anticipation, I finally had the opportunity to play through it and I loved it (and beat it completely)!
I beat SMB1-2 for quests. I beat SMB3 at the beginning of the year, but I need to beat it again for the quest.
I beat the Sega version of Aladdin (need to go back and play through the SNES version) and Lion King.
If I have beaten any others, I don't recall at the moment.
A lot of nostalgia this past year...
Odyssey was my primary new game of the year.
SMB and Disney were replays.
Not going to bother listing a game I only played briefly (which would mostly comprise the "play this game for XP" quests). Nor will I bother listing games I'm continuing to play (e.g. Fortnite or Fall Guys).
There may very well have been others, but these are the ones I can remember.
2023 Games Started
A list for games that you started playing in 2023.
1) Banjo- Tooie easily takes the top spot (it's on my Mount Rushmore after all). It's arguably better than Super Mario 64! It improved on everything that was already great about the original!
2) The introduction to the greatest 3D platforming duo ever!
3) The only 2D platformer that came close to the excellence that was Super Mario World! Only DKC game I owned as a kid and played the crap out of it!
4) The GOAT racing game! That's right, I said it! MK could learn a thing or two from DKR!
5) Too much repetitiveness holds this great title back from reaching the heights of BK/BT.
6) If I were making this list during the N64's lifetime, Goldeneye would be higher. Sadly, the controls have aged horribly! But I'll forever have fond memories of multiplayer!
7) Free Radical Design was created by the team who made Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, so I'm counting Time-Splitters for this list. And Future Perfect was definitely the best of the series! I really need to play it again!
8) Too short and easy compared to sequels, but such a blast!
9) PlayTonic Games was started by the team responsible for BK and DK. This spiritual successor to BK, while unable to quite reach that level of excellence, is still a great game!
10) Not as good as the first 2, but a solid conclusion to the trilogy.
I need to finally get around to playing Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, and Star Fox Adventures to see if any of those can crack the top 10.
Top 10 Games Developed by Rare
Rank your Top 10 games produced by the British software company Rare.
1) Easily the greatest Donkey Kong game ever! It took what was great about the original and improved upon it in every way! The level design was better and more varied, and Diddy and Dixie control better than DK. Also, the music in this game is the best of the series!
2) Although I'm not including any Smash, MK, or MP game (as DK merely appears in those games), I am including DKR because it's named after Diddy and because it's made by Rare (who made the DKC series and DK64, so it's part of the same universe). DKR is the GOAT racing game!
3) I absolutely love collectathons! And while DK64 isn't as good as Banjo-Kazooie or Tooie (due to its repetitive nature), it's still a blast!
4) The true origins of the character as we know him today, Rare struck gold with their take on DK! It's a little on the short and easy side, but an absolutely great game, nonetheless!
5) Definitely the best DKC game since #2. It was a rewarding challenge beating this game 200% (on the WiiU, so no Funky Kong either)!
6) DKC3 was a bit of a letdown after the pinnacle that was #2. I assume it was partly because the development team was split to work on N64 titles. I missed having Diddy as a playable character, and there were a couple levels that were unreasonably difficult.
7) The only DKC game I haven't completed. Maybe I'll go back one day and try to complete it, but the annoying motion controls turned me off of this one.
8) I have to give props to the OG (I believe I first played it in DK64). I get bored of it quickly, but it's definitely worth playing at least once in your life! I won't include the sequels as I haven't played either enough.
Thanks for having me on the podcast @dantucker and @elrey!
It was an honour to be invited and I had a blast!
Plus that SNES vs Sness debate was epic! 🤣
What are your 3? (FOR PODCAST GUESTS ONLY)
Would love each person who appears on the podcast to complete this list AFTER their episode airs, listing the 3 games mentioned (plus honorable mentions) in order. Will be fun to see the most listed games! (AGAIN: Do NOT fill out this list unless you've been on the What are your 3? podcast)
My NES broke years ago, so most of the games (except SMB1) have been sold off or thrown out. These are the ones I can remember having (there may have been more).
I also don't have my GB or GBA stuff anymore.
Crimson Skies - sold or lost.
Otherwise I still have pretty much everything I've ever owned.
Sold It
A list of games that you sold off that you no longer have.
DKR is one I always go back to every few years with @mariomaestro.
Rebel Strike includes a co-op version of the previous game, Rogue Leader (the best of the series).
ROTK is a fun co-op hack-and-slash.
Halo MCC is the best co-op FPS and FN is the best co-op 3PS.
I honestly don't remember a single dream I've ever had.
But considering how much I've played this game lately, I can only assume it has crept into my dreams.
In Your Dreams
Games that literally end up in your dreams. Either you end up playing them in your dreams or in the game in your dreams.
I really, really hope we get a Goldeneye event in the near future!
The others would probably require smaller groups, but they could be a lot of fun too.
Party Games for Channel 3
Drop your recommendations for future group party games for Channel 3!
List the games that you missed out on during their first pass that you hope to get a shot at someday. Maybe an upgrade, remaster, re-release, retro - whatever. You didn't get to play it but you hope to someday.
Only DKC game I haven't finished. Same with NSMB Wii. Motion controls really turned me off of these games; not sure if I'll ever try again.
Wind Waker is only Zelda game I've tried, but just couldn't get into it.
Battlefront 2 (and Republic Commando). I love SW games; but couldn't get into these.
Abandoned
Not currently playing, and don't plan to come back to it... You stopped playing it because it was too hard, not enjoyable, too long, life happened…
4) SM64 - timeless classic! Though once I finally get around to finishing Odyssey, I can see it supplanting SM64.
3) BT - the pinnacle of Rare's collectathons!
2) KOTOR - best SW game and greatest SW story outside the OG trilogy!
1) SMW - perfection in gaming!!
Mt. Rushmore
These are your top 4 games of all time. No more, no less.
A little different from your Favorites, these are the games you'd tell a friend to check out. Maybe they're underrated, maybe they're cult classics, but these are the ones you're always mentioning to people.
What games have you bought multiple times? Whether across system generations, upgraded versions, broken copies, digital and physical, multiple family members, whatever. List them! Inspired by @connerf
The Wii remake though. This is the only game I've ever pre-ordered.
I wanted the gold controller (which is far superior to the normal Wii classic controller) and the Oddjob "cheater" shirt!
MK8 and Fall Guys both have new content, so I'll count them.
Uncharted 4 has been remastered for PS5 this year, and I highly recommend this game (and series).
Forbidden West and Ragnarok are the ones I'm looking forward to playing.
Blades of Steel and Stanley Cup I played a ton of as a kid.
I've enjoyed the NHL series over the years, but I went with '22 here since it has a Leafs player on the cover.
Mario Golf for GC is the best Mario sports title to date.
