A beautiful piece of hardware. I regularly go over to a friend’s house to play Halo Master Chief Collection, and the graphics are gorgeous.
But Xbox just doesn’t have enough exclusives to make it a worthwhile investment for me.
The need for quarters lowers the rating.
Though I do recall one time on vacation staying at a hotel that disabled the need for quarters on all their arcades. My brother and I along with 2 other kids we met played through TMNT!
iOS is great for games like Angry Birds or maybe board games like 7 Wonders.
And while it’s nice to be able to play a quick game of something on the go, this will never be my go-to method of gaming!
No, just no. I’m a console gamer.
I’ve never had a computer good enough to play modern games. Nor am I interested in spending the money to get a high-end PC.
I’ve held off on getting one (though I’m soon rectifying that) mainly because, outside of Mario, the Switch hasn’t really had any exclusive single-player games that interest me.
Plus it’s frustrating that Nintendo still hasn’t permanently addressed joy-con drift.
Though being on Channel3 now, I want to get involved in the weekly MK tournaments!
Apart from platformers (Nintendo still makes the best there), IMO, PlayStation is the home to the best single-player games on the market!
I have absolutely loved getting Platinum on all 5 Uncharted games on PS4. Plus I have a huge backlog of games on here like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Tomb Raider, Kingdom Hearts, and SpiderMan!
I can’t wait to eventually get a PS5!
This one felt like a step-back for me after the 360. Microsoft seemed too focused on having the best hardware and being an entertainment center, rather than on having the best games.
Plus with Bungie moving on to Destiny, the Halo franchise hasn’t been the same.
I’ll play Xbox with friends still, but Sony and Nintendo are my picks for solo gameplay.
Prime example of Nintendo being Nintendo. Poor marketing led to market confusion on what this console was supposed to be (many thought it was an add-on to the Wii).
Only worthwhile games were 1st party Nintendo games. And since I assume most or all are now on Switch, the WiiU can die off in infamy.
And let me just add that I hate the gamepad! When I play a game, I don’t want to have to hold such a large, clunky device!
When it comes to the Wii, I’m torn.
It has some great games, most notably Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2.
The Virtual Console was a great idea - but underwhelming in execution.
And motion controls are a horrible idea!
At least it was backwards compatible with the GameCube!
I finally bought a PlayStation because of Uncharted and I wasn’t disappointed.
Though by the time I bought a PS3, the PS4 was already out, so I didn’t stick with this one for long.
Halo. I could end my review there and that would be explanation enough. Whether it was LAN parties with Halo 1 or Xbox Live with Halo 2, so many countless hours spent on such an amazing franchise!
Plus it was home to my second favourite game of all time - Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.
Really just a minor improvement over the original GameBoy. Wasn’t really worth getting unless you didn’t already have a GB or you were super into handheld gaming.
An underrated masterpiece!
Of course Nintendo being Nintendo, they had to go with these stupid mini-discs that scared away some 3rd party developers.
But this system still had some amazing games - particularly Mario Sunshine and Rogue Leader.
And as for the controller - it’s still the most comfortable controller I’ve ever held!
My brother owned this, but I was still exclusively interested in Nintendo at the time.
But looking back, I can see the seeds being planted of what would eventually convince me to become such a big fan of PlayStation.
I did enjoy Tony Hawks and eventually Kingdom Hearts.
I wanted to like this more than I did. While the games were improved over the OG GameBoy, the lighting for the original GBA was awful. It was frustrating having to spend extra money for accessories just to be able to play a game. This was the first and only handheld I ever bought; I decided I was better off sticking with consoles.
I only had one friend who got this, so admittedly I barely played it.
I’ve heard it claimed that it was ahead of its time, but what a sad ending to Sega’s time in the console market.
And what was with that weird remote?!
I think Sega was better off switching to focusing on games!
I absolutely love the N64! Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Rogue Squadron - all games I still enjoy today!
As much as I enjoyed 2D platforming, I absolutely fell in love with the 3D collectathons!
And what a genius move allowing for 4 controllers (even if they’re awkward by today’s standards). So many great memories of playing party games with friends!
My brother committed blasphemy (just kidding, sort of) and switched to the PlayStation as I stuck with Nintendo.
But just as with Sega, the gaming library didn’t appeal to me much (especially compared to Nintendo).
However, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was a particular standout for me on this console. One of the few games both my brother and I enjoyed (we rarely like the same things).
While I owned the SNES, my best friend owned the Genesis - what was he thinking?! ?
The Genesis was a solid system, but had nowhere near the quality of games as the SNES (at least for my tastes). Sonic was fun, but I’ll take Mario any day.
Though, I will admit that the Genesis version of Aladdin was superior to the SNES.
Home to my favourite game of all-time, Super Mario World, the SNES was the pinnacle of 2D gaming!
While the NES introduced me to gaming, it was the SNES that cemented me as a lifelong Nintendo fan. Countless hours spent on masterpieces such as Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 2, Mario Kart, and Lion King (amongst others). I still go back and play SNES all these years later!
I’ll say this for the GameBoy - it was nice to have something to do on long car rides.
I had the most fun with Ninja Turtles and Pokémon Yellow; but this system definitely hasn’t aged well!
The start of my gaming career, the NES will always hold a special place in my memories. While many of the games don’t hold up as well today (often because of the absurd difficulty levels - I’m looking at you, TMNT!), the NES is home to several all-time classics.
The NES and Mario saved gaming, and I’m a lifelong gamer because of it!
