Helldivers II
I've now played this enough to leave an honest review. This is a fun meme-game, with great tongue-in-cheek humor. Reminds me of High on Life on a less-crass level.

This is a game that is best played with a squad of friends. The missions can get repetitive and mundane at times but the fun is the banter when two of you accidentally step on a mine or get overran by a horde of automatons. There is also the option to drop in with random squads, which has been positive for the most part and keeps you from having to play a game as a solo.

My fear with this game is that it will enjoy its hype, like many do, and most of its player base will go back to their main online game. The devs will defininitely need to keep it fresh to keep players coming back. A huge positive was the price. Currently, it's selling for $40 but you can find discounts to get it as low as $32. This strategy, which the quickly-popular Palworld also took, is great because I think the AAA rate of $60-$70 would prevent most from wanting to try out the game. All in all, I think it’s a good game to pickup if you worked an extra hour or two this week and have an extra few bucks in your pocket.

Palworld
Fun, open world, Poke-type game. It does lose it's luster quick, as I moved on to other games fast but I had fun while it lasted.

Full Void
Got this game on the advice of @laughatbrian and it did not disappoint. Going beyond the pros of the Evercade, it amazes me that graphics don't have to play into a game being a good game in 2024. This game was made just a few years ago but the retro feel and storyline suck you in. I would even say, with the soundtrack and cutscenes, it borderlines on a horror/adventure game. The puzzles aren't too hard but make you think. Definitely pick this one up if it's available outside of the Evercade. I love these indie games that, while they aren't big AAA hits, give you a true gaming experience.

Rocket Racing
Solid, fun racing game. Lots of Rocket League mechanics without having to chase a damn ball, so I'm loving it. Some of the tracks get clunky but overall I find myself playing this more than BR on Fortnite.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder
This is, without a doubt, the best Mario 2D platformer out there! The soundtrack, badges, Wonder seeds, power-ups, etc. make this a step above all other Mario games. They really went all out with this game. Also, the fact you can blow through levels with mimimal difficulty/effort or, like my wife says "Sometimes you have to be curious" and check everything out to get all the purple coins and seeds, this game is one for all. If you don't own this one, you are doing yourself a disservice...get it now!!

Project Gotham Racing 2
At a time when Need for Speed dominated the market, this game was a welcome change. I remember playing courses over and over to get that drifting just right.
0
Forza Horizon 5
The realism of the cars and variety make it fun. If you're looking for a Gran Turismo-type of game, this isn't it. I enjoyed the different race types but driving to different events can drag on.
0
Command & Conquer: Red Alert
This game was my jam back on my Windows 95 PC. I remember it seeming advanced for the time with the cutscene videos straining my CD ROM drive. Like many of the AAA games today, this was a must have back in 1996, especially at a time when Age of Empires and Civilization were running the market.

Monopoly GO!
I like to call this a 🚽 game...perfect time to play while taking your daily constitution. As @nanner said, you're not going to spend your whole day on this game but it's a great time filler and addicting. The "freemium" aspect gets thrown in your face often, but if you can ignore it, you can have fun for free.

Firewatch
Found this on Game Pass and it was good for a quick run through. It kinda reminded me of Road 96. It's definitely a walking simulator and there isn't much of a challenge to the game plus there really aren't any decisions you are making that affect the storyline. I started on my Steam Deck on Cloud Gaming, then played some on my PC. The outdoor graphics were good and mechanics were OK. What really gave the game 4-stars, even though it wasn't heavy on action or graphics, was the story itself. This is not a kid game. There are adult conversations about deep stuff. While the story was kinda anti-climatic, I would definitely recommend for those with Game Pass for a quick 3 hour run through.

StarTropics
The best RPG game (and one of the only RPG games I enjoyed)! I remember playing through this as a kid and loving it.

Wii Sports
For a game that came FREE with the Wii, this was a winner! Not only did it show the capabilities of the Wii (and Nintendo’s move into motion based controls moving forward with consoles), all of the games were fun with excellent replayability.

Nintendo Switch Sports
I had only played this once awhile back and got back into it with my kid playing the bowling quest today. Definitely brings back memories of the great Wii Sports game. My kid and I especially get competitive with the tennis game. Like VR games, this also has the advantage of getting you off your ass and moving around. My arms felt it after over an hour of playing multiple games. I did take one star away solely based on the golf game. I know the Wii Sports golf was much better and I think I’m also used to the button controls of Mario Golf now. This version of Golf wasn’t great for me. All in all, I would highly recommend for solo runs or with family/friends.

Mario Golf: Super Rush
I’ve never been a huge fan of golf games but I really enjoy this one. It doesn’t hit the point of silliness where you can still take it semi-seriously as a golf game and the adventure feels like a Mario game. Would highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of Mario games and/or golf games.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge
This is the VR Star Wars game you've been looking for. Skip Vader Immortal and play this one. It was cool to walk on ledges and look down (not for the faint-hearted) and duck behind things for cover. A must for any Star Wars fan!

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series
This is a great intro game in the Oculus VR. "Intro" is the key word. It's fun getting immersed in the Star Wars Universe but it's mostly a way to show off the capabilities of the VR. Otherwise, the story is lacking and I felt like it should've been much cheaper than it was.
0
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
This is one of my favorite games on the Oculus. The storyline was great, even though a little thin at times. It was cool to be immersed in the Walking Dead world. Once you beat the game, you get extra missions via a DLC. This is really where the fun begins as you get access to every weapon in the game. The machete can't be beat and don't sleep on the propane tanks to help with hoards of walkers. Highly recommend this one!

Stray
First, I hate cats. This game made me want a cat.

I’ll venture to say this is one of the best games I’ve played in years. It sucks you in like a book you don’t want to put down. No, it’s not overly difficult or long, but its story is a masterpiece in gaming. Odd yet striking. Take 5-6 hours of time and play this one, you won’t regret it.

Motor City Patrol
It’s been many, many years since I played this game but I remember begging my mom to get it. It was the precursor to GTA OG but didn’t have the crass language we all loved in that game. When Matchbox was popular, this game was fun but now, it doesn’t hold up to the test of time.
0
Die Hard Trilogy
Did you love the Die Hard movies (chances are you did cause I’ve never met anyone who didn’t…greatest action movies ever made)? This game was a surprise hit, even made PS Greatest Hits status. 3 types of games in one and the DH with a Vengeance portion reminded me of GTA 3 with its driving gameplay.

Hell Let Loose
Got into this as a way to play with a good friend who just got into gaming and enjoys it. Steep learning curve (no tutorial and you get dumped into 50v50 online gameplay, so highly recommend watching YouTube videos to get up to speed) but realistic military gameplay. You’ll play a role and can join a squad who is under a commander. Proximity chat is neat too. Games can tend to be long so definitely carve out some time to play. Closest resemblance would be Battlefield.
0
Elite Beat Agents
Think of this as Guitar Hero for the DS. You’ve got a storyline then you’re using your stylus to match the beat of many popular songs (albeit cover versions).

Marvel Snap
Not really into card games but this one has me hooked! I love the quick games so you can get in a quick game or two when you have downtime and the visuals and gameplay are stunning for a mobile game.
0
Star Wars Battlefront (2015)
I enjoyed the multiplayer aspect of this game and getting immersed in the Star Wars universe. I didn't play it for long before moving on to other games but it was fun while it lasted.

Wii Fit
Was it a good idea? Yes. Did it gamers off their asses and moving? Yes. Did you really lose weight and get fit? Probably not. The idea was novel but I'll bet your balance board collected dust and you took $0.50 for it at your next garage sale.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
Gameplay is fun...til it isn't. I think I've raged at this game harder than Fortnite and that's saying a lot. Still, its a fun game to play with the family and I like the layout of the "show". Epic was genius to move this to the free-to-play, battle pass format to bring more popularity to the game.

SimCity 2000
This was a blast and I loved creating a city from scratch, even as a tween. It was fun how they really did put in real mechanics on city planning plus destroying cities was always a plus.
0
24: The Game
This is one of my favorite TV series of all time and this game didn’t disappoint! Lots of actors from the show provided voice acting and gameplay was fun. Since this was a PS2 exclusive, I bought one to play the game (and Bully too).

American Truck Simulator
Just a nice, relaxing game. Got the PNW DLC so it's cool to tool around the WA, OR, and ID highways and make deliveries. Fire up Big Rig FM on the radio and cruise!

Road 96
Played this game on PC Game Pass on the suggestion of someone from the TDG group. Interesting storyline and a choose-your-own-adventure type of game. Was neat to see how your decisions affect the rest of the game. Depending on where you fall in the political spectrum, this game could turn you off.

M.C. Kids
While this game was a blatant ad for McDonalds, there was no doubt that it was fun playing in a game with your favorite McD’s characters such as The Hamburglar and Grimace. As a kid, this was a fun platformer and a good run of a game.
0
Gun
This game was the OG RDR. Open world and western gameplay. It was one of my favorite PS2 games.
0
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
I think I would've gave this game a lower rating had it not come out in March 2020, also known as "when the world shut down". This was a blessing and a curse. While the game should have extended playability played for 20 minutes here and there, I played the shit out of this game while out of work for months during the pandemic getting to 5-star island status within a few months. After reaching the pinnacle of the game, I returned to my dark master, Fortnite. My wife, however, who originally poo-poo'd the game, has become addicted and now uses my game cartridge to run a second island. This game is a great pastime and was a fun first foray into the Animal Crossing series.

Carmageddon
As a tween, this game shouldn't have been available to a kid but the 90's were the wild west of gaming. We were running people down with cars long before GTA let us and boy it was fun! I had almost forgotten how much I loved this game.
0
Bully
I saw a video recently that said this was Rockstar’s crassiest game and boy they were right. From the makers of GTA and RDR, this was a forgotten gem. You play a boarding school student armed with a slingshot and fist (to give others the ol Will Smith 1-2). The map isn’t huge compared to Rockstar’s other games but still a fun open-world setup. Some missions include classes at school or hi jinx such as breaking into the girls dorm and peeing in the football team’s Gatorade cooler. The mechanics are on point with other Rockstar games making this a great recommendation for anyone who likes GTA and RDR.

Marvel's Spider-Man (2018)
This game is a PS exclusive and one of their marquee games. A fun open-world game that pits you against Spider Man villains and follows a good storyline. Would highly recommend as well as the Miles Morales sequel.

Grand Theft Auto III
I remember bootlegging the OG GTA as a 13 year old hoping my mom wouldn’t see the messages on the in game beeper (IYKYK). Fast forward to me as a young adult and seeing the game I loved in glorious third-person. This way the GTA that spawned the current generation. A wonderful open world, gripping storyline, and side quests made this game a winner. While 4 and 5 took it even further, this was the OG of the GTA games we know and love.

The Oregon Trail
How else can you die of dysentery? The nostalgia is strong with this one! I remember playing this on our old school Macs in our elementary school computer lab and it is still fun anytime I play it to this day.
0
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
In a world of Battle Royale games, this game stood out as a fun linear-based story game. I was happy to see a lot of the humor found in the movies brought into the game plus another badass soundtrack.
0
Red Dead Redemption 2
Along with GTA V, this is easily one of my favorite and top games! An immersive storyline paired with familiar Rockstar mechanics and gameplay, I was sad to see the story end. As with GTA, there is always more to do besides the main story to keep gameplay fresh.
0
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
Nostalgia of old Turtles games from our childhood plus fun with a couch co-op playing with the kid! These developers hit a home run with this game!
0
Grand Theft Auto V
This will probably go down as one of my top 2 games along with the other Rockstar classic RDR2. Rockstar knocked it out of the ballpark with this immersive game. In addition to an immersive storyline, there is so much more to do in Los Santos and beyond. I can’t wait for the long awaited GTA 6!
0
Beat Saber
This is my kid’s favorite game on the Oculus! With a leaderboard setup, you always want to beat your last score plus my Apple Watch counts this as exercise minutes…the sweat on my forehead attests to this being a workout. I do wish they had more DLC music packs but overall it’s a fun game.
0
Mario Kart 8
A great game to bring the family together for some friendly competition. With tracks, karts, and additional items that can be unlocked as you move along, this game has lots of replay ability and is a great couch co-op!

Fortnite
One of the OG Battle Royale games and holds a special place for me. I started playing this game in its infancy but thought the strategy was “camping” to win. I had no one to play with and my kid was too young to figure it out. Flash forward to the pandemic when my kid started to get into the game and get good and he was my go-to Duo partner. I was able to play on my MacBook while he played on the Switch and it made for some good father-son time. Then, I found myself out of work due to a pandemic closure and found TDG Fortnite, which made me get into the game even more due to the social interaction with other dads/dadettes. Epic may have made some follies but more wins with Zero Build, collabs, and more. This is their marquee game and they keep it going with fun changes and updates.
