I make a lotta noise with guitar and pedals and call it ambient music. V casual gamer with a bad dad joke habit.
Sega Saturn
SEGA probably started going downhill when they moved away from cartridges.

PlayStation Vita
I always had a hard time with owning the game on the non-portable platform and having to buy it for portable. -hugs Nintendo Switch-

Atari 5200
I think if this generation gave us anything, it was the cartridge concept
0
Intellivision
I remember seeing one of these relics at a friends house and thinking “Why would anyone want to play this”

Atari 2600
It’s hard to look back on these systems with any amount of love compared to what’s available today.

Nintendo 3DS
The double screen concept really threw me off. I guess by the time it came out I was too old.

Sega Genesis Nomad
Really bulky guy. I'm glad games ultimately got smaller (physically) to make portable systems possible without having to buy portable versions.

PlayStation 3
Really amazing follow up to the PS2 - Sony knocked it out of the park with this one.
0
Oculus Quest
Definitely has a performance edge over the Playstation VR, still needs more games etc to keep playing fresh.
0
PlayStation VR
Definitely feel like Sony needs to spend more time on R&D if it hopes to compete with Oculus.

PlayStation 4
Sony has always had compelling exclusives and this generation is no different. But Xbox has always had the upper hand for backwards compatibility.

Stadia
Cloud gaming is simple in concept but hard to get right. I can’t justify spending money on a subscription service that I can get on a larger, more developed platform like Gamepass.

Steam Deck
Pricey but cool to finally have a portable platform for big titles not available on the Switch.

PlayStation 5
Exclusive titles are the driving factor for Sony imho. I’ll need to borrow one at some point to play the Horizon games and Ghost of Tsushima

Arcade
Hanging out at arcades was before my time, but when given the opportunity, it was really fun to play games on a big screen two inches from your face.

Sega Genesis
I think the internal console wars for me started between the SNES and the Genesis. SEGA was edgy, dark, and had games like Gunstar Heroes and Jurassic Park.
0
Dreamcast
Sonic and Crazy Taxi were definitely favorites. I remember comparing this to the N64. N64 definitely had better games but from a performance perspective the Dreamcast was surprising.

PC
Played on consoles since I was a lad. A buddy of mine showed me his setup and Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” started playing in the room. After I made him turn the CD player off, he showed me exactly why playing FPSs on a PC is a must.

Nintendo (NES)
Hard to rate the OG as anything other than amazing for what it was. Revolutionary? For sure. Entertaining? Without question. Dusty? -Blows out cartridge-

GameCube
This system came out during my gaming "dark ages" - not much time spent on games, but I did enjoy playing Double Dash with my friends. Also it was great that Gamecube games carried forward to the Wii, which were wildly different systems.

Wii U
The portable concept was nice, but in general the secondary screen integration with games wasn't fleshed out enough to put this on the market imho.
0
Game Boy
The OG. The Big Kahoona. The Chonky Boi. The thing that got me through 3+ hour car rides to Chicago when I was just a lad.

Nintendo Switch
No one does portable gaming like Nintendo. I’ve loved the Gameboy, and now being able to play full Nintendo titles on the go is incredible.

Xbox One
Great system, automatically loses a star for the startup chime :) What, you’re trying to turn on the system without waking up your wife? WELL TOO FKIN BAD HEY HE’S GONNA PLAY STAR WARS INSTEAD OF SNUGGLE YOU BETTER WAKE TF UP

Wii
That’s the way to innovate, Nintendo!! This system brought gaming to non-gamers and holds so many fond memories of wii sports and party games. It’s impressively backwards compatible with GameCube, which was a feature wayyyyy ahead of its time.

Xbox 360
New console generations are always exciting, but imho the jump from the OG Xbox to 360 (and the jump from PS2 to PS3 for that matter) had a lot of quality of life improvements without necessarily being innovative. That said, the 360 was a great console, introducing things like native support for wireless controllers, and supporting monster titles like Skyrim as it aged.

Xbox Series X/S
Woah Nelly. Load times are a thing of the past with the Series X, so if snacking or texting while you wait to load in is your jam, this console definitely isn't for you. -insert 'Palpatine Unlimited Power gif-

Game Boy Color
Great piece of gear for long car rides. I loved battling Pokemon with my friends on the bus.
0
Nintendo 64
If the SNES was fun, the N64 was a revolution. Party games, 3D graphics, 2+ players, and now-must-play titles, this console sparked imaginations for what gaming could become.
0
Super Nintendo (SNES)
I cut my teeth on this console and it kicked off a life-long love of games. Classic, accessible, and always fun.
0
Xbox
The OG Xbox was a chonky boi without much appeal. The option to listen to your own tunes in games like Fusion Frenzy was a nice feature, but given that only certain games allowed you to do this, the primary reason for owning an Xbox was Halo.

PlayStation 2
After watching my friends with envy as they upgraded their systems to the N64, Xbox, and PS1, the PS2 was a major, mind-blowing jump for me from the SNES. In terms of power, graphical fidelity, game library, and portability, the PS2 was an amazing machine for the time.
