Mario's tropical vacation turns into a sunny spectacle of platforming. Cleaning up goop has never been so fun. Levels get more and more challenging, but boy oh boy, does it feel good when you succeed.
Wackadoodle plot that never makes use of its “surprise†twist. A stupid take on space colonialism that kinda undoes the social philosophy work of the first 3. Basically quests for quests sake. Do not recommend.
A great game for people who haven’t played the original Overwatch. Needless changes made for a dense game that prioritizes making money and collecting pointless rewards. Still fun, but less so.
Beans, beans, the magical fruit. The more you play, the more you tilt. A slant rhyme for a game with a lot of slants lol. This is a pretty great free-to-play casual game that can be picked up by folks at any level.
A game so scary, it got cancelled : P This game is most well-known for making use of voice, and might have been one of the first games to do so. It added a new level of intensity to the horror genre.
A reimagining of Silent Hill in an alternate dimension that cranks the psychological aspect up to 100. It’s the unique, psychological features of this game that make it worth playing, because the puzzles themselves can get tiresome. But not only is this a new take on the series’ launch title, it’s also an imaginative deep dive into game mechanics.
Team up for co-op zombie-slaying fun, but don't forget to share your herbs. Slightly troublesome narrative....but on the whole, a great game to play with a friend.
The grown-up, more eloquent version of Phasmophobia. Smart, spooky, and addictive gameplay loops. Still in early access and growing every quarter with interesting new features and maps. Can't wait to keep watching this game grow!
Ghost hunting with friends - a fun concept that took-off with the launch of Phasmo. Unfortunately, recent updates have been so clumsy. First, with a visual update of the menus, adding obtuse features. Then, with unnecessary increased complexity. A studio that no longer seems to be playtesting and thinking critically. The bigger this studio gets, the worse Phasmo becomes.
People be hating, but this game was a first of many and broke ground on increasing interactivity in games. It was a masterclass in both what to do and what not to do in narrative driven video games.
Thought-provoking, beautiful, and artistic. While it takes a while to get the hang of the game, if you stick it out, you'll be treated to some amazing drama, acting, and a chilling story. The initial onboarding and user experience of the game, however, could be better, in the way that it explains its mechanics and in its sorting and cataloguing of what has and hasn't yet been seen by the player.
Dragons, eggs, and a whole lot of fiery fun. Some of the mini games will have your blood pressure skyrocketing. It's a beautiful game though, and a collector dream.
Copying text from one of my quests: "managed to keep the same core mechanics and feel and fucking blasted it 10 times above the level of Spyro the Dragon, which was such a difficult game in comparison due to clumsy mechanics." This game is so much fun, and a fresh take on the original.
Roast bad guys, collect gems, and enjoy a classic platformer that's as charming as it is fun. Definitely the most challenging in the series, but fun to see where/how the series started.
Kratos takes on the entire Greek pantheon, and the result is an epic bloodbath. God of War 3 is a brutal, mythological showdown like no other, with some Rated M scenes that the graphics of the time really weren't ready for lmao.
Kratos' rage-filled journey through Greek mythology is a bloody spectacle. A tale of vengeance that left its players wanting more (spoiler alert: they got it lol).
Beautiful, thought-provoking game. Final Fantasy 10's whimsical world and memorable characters make it a standout in the series. Minus 1 star for Blitzball...
Final Fantasy 6 is a true masterpiece of the RPG genre. Magic, mechs, and an unforgettable cast of characters. It's a classic that still shines brightly.
Auto Chess with an RNG Jesus twist. This game would be perfect if they would just cycle through seasons instead of making you relearn a new game and mechanics every single season. The first 2-3 seasons were gold.
Super Mario Galaxy takes Mario's platforming antics to the cosmos, and it's a star-studded adventure. Gravity-defying fun with the occasional touch of 'Nintendo' narrative charm. A must-play for any Mario fan.
Some lore is as interesting as a history textbook. And I basically ran this game like a bull in a china shop. It really prefers you to play in one specific style, so if you want to live out your ninja stealth fantasies, this one is for you.
Even better than Dark Souls - you're a duck with a hat. Can you play as a duck with a hat in Dark Souls? No. Also, you get to keep your souls when you die. A+
Capitalism meets sad fantasy girl in this game where you have to run an item shop using items you find in dungeons in order to pay off the debt of your missing father.
This game is incredibly fun and easy to understand the basic mechanics. And then it asks you to step up that understanding to 10. Fun, challenging time-based game that you'll want to play again and again. It's way too relaxing for how challenging and serious the storyline is XD
An excellent mobile game that doesn't kill your battery. Polytopia is easily playable without ever paying a dime (although, once you get good at all the free tribes, you might want to play a new tribe! That takes a long time, and they run sales frequently. Honestly, they earn those dollars!).
In Polytopia, you can play in "Perfection" mode, where you try to get as high a score as possible within 30 turns, or domination mode, where you must play until only one tribe is left. There's a new creative mode as well, basically for infinite play.
You pick a tribe to start with, and that tribe comes with a special skill unlocked on the skill tree. As each turn passes, you earn stars to spend in the skill tree that will unlock new units or ways to increase your score/stars. What makes Polytopia unique is that while it can be a chill game, it also requires a lot of strategy to fully utilize all the skills and maximize your selected tribe.
A very cute RPG! Found it in a bargain bin one day. Perfect for youngins. I'm waiting for the second version to be released on steam soon! Rhapsody is a charming game, with a fun musical component. The narrative leaves a bit to be desired, but the characters are A-tier RPG material. There is one map in this game, however, where you're inside of a creature, that irritated me to the ends of the earth. This game was such a good time, though, and I recommend it for any RPG lover.
Best introduction to spooky games ever. Plenty of bosses and enemies and every level was pretty different from the last. Each boss had their own mechanics as well. Tons of enemy types. The art work was stellar and spooky, and there was even weather environments in this game. Level of difficulty was jusssst right to be challenging enough to require a few playthroughs before mastering the mechanics. Also the soundtrack was a chiptune jam.
Y’all, trigger warning for mature content. This game has some pretty unique and well done features for its time. Players play as Fiona, a woman who awakes in a castle after a car accident. Fiona must escape the castle, and learn more about why she arrived here. She and her newly rescued canine companion, Hewie, must carefully explore the castle. Like Clock Tower, the player cannot attack and must run and hide to survive. When scared, Fiona freaks out and the player loses control of Fiona, who can run in any direction. Hewie can also be trained by the player, and has different modes to help. Occasionally, it can be easy to get stuck by missing hidden items.
As a result, the tension in the game is stellar. Hewie, as a companion, is pivotal to the success of the player. However, the plot of this game is probably the worst part; Fiona is desired for her womb by a crazy hooded figure who captured her. I’ll let you interpret that as you will, lol. He chases her throughout the castle. But in essence, you are playing as an object of sexual desire. Fiona has no agency, and most of the plot depends on Hewie. Unfortunately, the story gets even more sexually wackadoodle towards the end. If you can get past the problematic media portion of this game, and view it as a product of its time, Haunting Ground is a unique, scary title (twice as much for women).
Welp. I’m in love. Marvel Snap is a well-balanced game that is fun and delightful, all for free. It’s not too grindy, as you can still win with the lower pool cards, but conquest will be tougher.
Overall though, Snap has an incredible onboarding experience that helps players of any background understand the concept of deck fighters and learn the more complex, strategic side of things before jumping into PVP. Its smooth, mobile design is mostly accessible, (ex.any card or location can be clicked to see larger text). Snap is unique in that it contains something for different player types: collector, competitive, and casual.
For a roughly 1.5hr game, Frog Detective has a delightful narrative with a lot of charm. The witty, absurdist humor is at the center of a very spooky mystery, as Frog Detective investigates a ghost problem at an island.
This game (and series) is perfect for a quiet, fun afternoon alone or with the fam. Frog Detective and its many characters is sure to please.
If you are a fan of Donut County, you'll enjoy this laid back animal mystery noir originally created as a capstone course project.
Boo Men is so much more than a seemingly Phasmo clone. In this game, you play on a team of 1-4 burglars who are looking for items on a list to lift. While you hunt for the items, Y O U are hunted by 1 of 5 ghost types. The ghosts chase you around the map, BUT! They can't hurt you in the light. However, you have a power meter, and every light you turn on affects the power meter. Once it's maxed out, you risk a Power Outage, meaning you now need to get to the breaker box immediately, without dying.
The game features a unique way to revive teammates - using "voodoo dolls" that are hidden on the map. Maps range from small to large. There are small spooks around the map that happen while you search furniture, and it also features a store where you can purchase maps, cosmetics, and power up perks for your character using your rewards from successful thefts (either payment or dollars found around the map)
Boo Men also has a new 1v4 mode, where one player can play as the monster! This game gets a lot of praise from me because the developers are taking a typically serious medium and giving it a humorous spin, consistently updating, and coming up with new features.
Boo Men is in early access (some controls are still a bit janky) but I have high hopes for this high energy, tension building, laugh producing game!
I remember looking forward to this game, but it didn't live up to the hype. The hack and slash aspect of this game is all right, but I did not love their interpretation of Dante's Inferno. Additionally, the narrative of the game had a lot of plot holes and things that took me out of the magic circle too frequently. It's been ages since I've played this game though. I might feel differently about it now, but the fact that I remember almost nothing besides what I've mentioned doesn't reflect well for me. You will definitely have a few laughs though.
Disco Elysium lives up to the hype, delivering a colorful and engaging experience. With accessible gameplay and a captivating storyline, it can keep you hooked for over 50 hours. The painted art style and hilarious humor add to the game's charm, which deals with some somber topics. The soundtrack is amazing, and the characters bring depth to the world you explore, along the several characters undergoing intense growth (and you will, too). With its open-world feel and immense replayability, Disco Elysium is a must-play gem. I could probably write a whole essay on Disco Elysium so I'll keep it short and sweet...
I went into this not knowing much about it, and I loved it. Already looking forward to my next playthrough!
In my clip, I describe some of the crazy things that can happen XD
What if....you could burn some goats and make an angry demon lady chase you in the dark? Welcome to the first map of Devour! This game has tons of replayability for not a lot of dollars. It gets frequent updates as well!
Forget check-ups. This game is a fantastic diagnostic tool for heart health problems and lung capacity. Have the phone handy.
Three stars, purely because this is a smart UX move, to provide some delight when users lose connection. The game itself is really simple, but sadly, not super accessible, and that's where the lack of stars come in. The contrast is high, but it can get very bright suddenly.
Control has some amazingly smooth mechanics. You can tell the team behind this game spent a lot of time making sure the weapons and abilities felt amazing, which is a boon for this game about inner power. The feel of the mechanics really add to the game. There are so many features, but the design keeps it from feeling overwhelming.
The pacing of this game is also fantastic, and the narrative will keep you on your toes. If you're a fan of SCPs, this game is for you! With lots of lore, documents, notes, etc to read, there's a lot to learn about this universe, which is connected to Alan Wake. However, Control's side missions occasionally suffer from something I'd like to call "Prototype Problems." If you've ever played Prototype, you know that the side missions are incredibly repetitive. Eventually, this becomes true for Control, but luckily, those are optional, and you can still make it through the game without grinding.
The ending is a bit abrupt, but where it lacks, it makes up for in musical score. The ending of this game is HYPE.
Overall, Control is an amazing game from Remedy that features unique characters and boss fights, psychology, and paranormal tension which all combine to make one hell of a game.
Couldn't beat it as a kid, but when I came back to this game as an adult, I loved it. Great puzzles and story elements, with characters that are easy to fall in love with. Another fantastic RPG that stood the test of time.
This game is perfect for completing in one evening. The soundtrack is on point, and if you like to be a chaotic trash goblin, you're gonna have a good time. The main mechanic is simple enough, but you will have to employ some skills in the latter half of the game. The game gives ample opportunity to practice the main mechanic before turning up the heat. Donut County is further enhanced by actually having an fresh narrative that helps the player bond with the main character. It's a good time!
Imagine I'm on Observation Duty, but harder XD. I really was wondering how they could make another game out of the first, but this version is even more unsettling and more of a slow burn. The anomalies are more difficult to catch, thanks in part to the improved 3D visuals and also addition of 2D art. Again, another great game in the franchise, fright light, for an unbeatable price.
The atmosphere and build-up in this game is so fun and will keep you on your toes. What seems like a relatively basic game is upgraded by the simple mechanics that lull you into a sense of security. It's easy to get the hang of the game, but actually beating the levels is another matter! Definitely the game for horror enthusiasts looking for something on the fright light side.
This game will make you hate typing A+. The story is wonderfully bizarre, the art is pixel macabre, and honestly, I think the recent film, The Pope's Exorcist, is based off this game but they'll never admit it. This game is great for a laugh but also requires a lot of skill at the higher levels! If you're a fan of typing games and bullet hell, this one's for you.
I'm a loot goblin - this is a loot game. Things go boom. You have fun on your own or with friends. That ending though........almost enough for one less star.
An ending for everyone? Have you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be trapped in a building and chased by a monster with no face and only legs? This game was a hugely influential game of its time, setting the tone and bar for future horror games on PS and beyond - minimalism meets complexity in terms of mechanics. Story driven, but not too much. I definitely recommend horror fans play this or see a Let's Play.
This 2014 game plays like a classic PS2 game, but the story and missions are super enjoyable. The characters are funny and the twist must be M. Night Shyamalan approved XD. I really enjoyed the premise of the game and the designers/developers did a great job of keeping the main mechanics of the game fresh. The only thing that this game could do without is the demons and bird mechanic. Unfortunately, those level designs were too easy to get around or didn't add much to the story besides being unnerving (which is a plus!). I recommend this game to those who like detective mysteries and paranormal games and a bit of cringe writing.
This game is a trip! I went in knowing nothing at all about it, and recommend you do, too. It's well-known for it's card mechanics, and the game requires some thoughtful strategy. It's just complex and unforgiving enough to keep you interested. And the bonkers story adds mystery! I could not recommend this game enough, especially for those who enjoy card mechanics (which I usually don't!).
This one's nostalgic for me. Used to go to Best Buy to play it before I bought it. Probably my favorite fighting game! And the only one I can play well XD
5 stars for mechanics and originality using a well-established franchise. Minus 1 star for making players read paragraphs and paragraphs of not very interesting, silly narrative...Still a really fun game!
