Steam Deck
2022-02-25
The Steam Deck is a handheld gaming computer developed by Valve and released on February 25, 2022. The Steam Deck can be played as a handheld or connected to a monitor in the same manner as the Nintendo Switch. It is an x86-64-v3 device with integrated gaming inputs designed to play the full Steam library, including Windows PC games via the Linux-based Proton compatibility layer. The system is an open platform, allowing users to install other compatible titles on the device or other operating systems such as Microsoft Windows.

Steam Deck
I really like the steam deck, but it is a very frustrating experience without peripherals. It's like trying to operate a PC using only a touchscreen. Once you've made the investment, you need to get the full kit and caboodle to really the maximum usage out of the steam deck, as a streamer. As a gamer, it's a lot easier to pick up and go using the native steam interface. Still, a lot of buttons to learn.

Limited experience, but I did give it a go. Felt underwhelming, especially for the price tag. Won’t be buying one anytime soon.

I admittedly don't have enough experience with the Steam Deck to write an entirely accurate review, however a friend did let me have a go at his and I was mediumly impressed. I fired up Rocket League and immediately noticed that the framerate wasn't super great and the console got really hot in my hands. The fans were pushing hard but definitely struggling to keep up. Still 100% playable so I can't give it a terrible review, but I definitely wasn't impressed enough to run out and go get one for myself.

Pricey but cool to finally have a portable platform for big titles not available on the Switch.

Love this thing, Holding back a star in case something goes wrong, but the thing is a beast. Still learning how to get the most out of it, haven't put any emulators on it yet. Not that tech savvy lol. Playing Control on it now, plays outstanding.
