Really fun start to a wonderful series. Tons of depth for an NES title. Drawing up maps was super fun, and the soundtrack is so good. It was easy to get lost for sure as a kid. This game deserves its rep as a classic.
I remember that it took me 7 days from the time I first sat down to play this as a child to complete the first quest, with no outside help. I spent many, many more days replaying it, restarting, doing second quest, and I still remember most of the secrets in first quest all these years later.
I loved this game. I played it through to the end and then played the second adventure too. I was probably in 3rd grade, so 7 or 8 years old. This one is iconic, it lead to so many of my favorite games and gaming experiences. The story, to me, was original and struck a chord with me. Fantastic game and series.
Although this series has never held much interest for me, I decided to finally give the original a try. It's not for me (not sure how people played a game like this before Internet walkthroughs), but I have to give it 3 stars for the music and for the iconic line, "It's dangerous to go alone! Take this."
I have a hard time comparing this game to the likes of BotW, but given the time it came out, it's a solid game with good mechanics and play. It's fun to see how certain aspects of the Zelda franchise have evolved or stayed the same over time.
The original Zelda games were before my time. So when I went back to play them, I was definitely let down… that’s what happens when you compare them against Ocarina. Still solid games but not my favorite.
The game that launched 1,000 ships. My mind is always blown by people who did the originals. Not content just creating Mario, Miyamoto took inspiration from childhood cave exploration to create this. The legacy of this game will be like modern myths. The model still holds up and I remember making hand drawn maps.
In a world where most games made you just go to the right, this one drops you on a screen with paths to the north, west, and east - not to mention a cave entrance. No hints, no clues, just go explore. Awesome.
Obligatory 1-star review to upset the Zelda maxis. I've lost many friends over this. Zelda is one of the most overrated games of all time. If Zelda were a band it would be called Radiohead. Who wants to be friends?
