I'm terrible at fighting games, hence the 4 syar rating. But this was the main fighting game I grew up with. Never quite learned the controls until a friend of mine taught me in college. Had plenty of time to play against him, always felt like an accomplishment when I beat his Gannon
Some people say Melee is the best Smash. I disagree, but it’s a close second. It took what smash 64 did and really polished it up. The bigger roster, charged smash attacks, air dodges, and other changes it had made the game so much better. An excellent game in the smash series, but just go play Ultimate instead.
Smash Bros Melee was the first game I got so into that I had to finish it 100%. Collecting the trophies for the different, weird accomplishments in matches was so addictive that I couldn't put it down.
This was also the first real Party Game I ever owned. Golden Eye could be played by the same number of people, but it didn't appeal to the same cross section of people that Smash Bros did. No matter your background you knew some of these characters and seeing them wail on each other was just a blast. The ability to keep matches even by weighting people based on how many wins and losses they had meant that people that didn't play often or at all could still feel like they were doing well and were part of the action.
I only played this as an adult when I had retro games nights with friends. They all knew and wanted to play this, and it was a blast. I loved n64 smash bros, so this was a ton of fun.
You know how the board game Monopoly could temporarily damage friendships for a night? This game has that same effect just with me and my 20-year-old friends. 5/5 stars
Greatest smash game of its time! I love how fast pace it plays when playing against other players of your skill level. This game can be really hard to master with all the different tech the game has to offer. When mastered it can be a lot of fun!
There was a clear change towards competition with this sequel. More characters, added moves, the induction of spot dodging, all added up into one of best games on the GameCube.
