Super Metroid is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994. It is the third installment in the Metroid series, following the events of the Game Boy game Metroid II: Return of Samus (1991). Players control bounty hunter Samus Aran, who travels to planet Zebes to retrieve an infant Metroid creature stolen by the Space Pirate leader Ridley.

Another game I missed by not having a SNES, but I got into it after playing Metroid Prime. It was such a good game, made me appreciate things in Prime even more. Fun gameplay, great soundtrack. Another classic game worth all the praise it gets.

This is still the definitive Metroid. It’s replayability is off the charts, I play all the way through it every year or two. The ambience is perfect and the way it encourages you to backtrack once you’ve collected new power ups is pure joy.
