Like practically every Mario game, I never finished this one. But what I did play was really great. My cousin’s had it when I was a kid so I’d play it at their house. After that was just playing it on various virtual consoles. A classic that I’d say lives up to its hype.
I loved SM3 but this was also excellent it really comes down to the fact that is has Yoshi. That racoon tail and flight in SM3 was something I fondly remember being amazed by.
This game aged like a fine wine. It’s incredibly replayable, and just pure joy to experience. I love all the secrets to find, the variety in levels, the music, graphics, the castles. Everything about it makes this a masterpiece.
Greatest game maybe ever. Certainly one of the most beautiful platform games of its time and I think for many of us, where the real love affair for the genre was cemented.
Sometimes when I get lonely, I just hear the theme song in my head. Then I feel better. If that doesn't explain the awesomeness of this game, what does?
One of the first games I owned. Going back 20+ years later just to find the shortcuts was arguably even more satisfying than beating the game the first time. Cheers to you, the OG illusory wall!
IMO, this is the pinnacle of Mario 2d scrollers. Again, Nintendo does a great job of adding elements that become staples of the Mushroom Kingdom. Yoshi became so popular, it's had multiple games dedicated to the multi colored dinosaurs. Mario's cape has been part of his arsenal since smash bros melee (I prefer it over tanooki). Nintendo also continues its staple of placing multiple secret paths and levels in its games. Great levels, fun music, and bowser riding a propeller jar that would eventually be passed on to Bowser Jr.
The first game I ever played on the super nintendo. And a game I literally streamed last night. Going from nintendo to super nintendo holy moly did this whole thing change. The map lay out. The massive differences in the Koopa kids and the final castle. Having options! That's what made this game amazing. You know this game had to blow away sonic so they tried their hardest to make something memorable. And years later the debate is still. Which is better Mario 3 or Mario World. I think Mario World. But its what ever you want it to be. Mario World is on like everything. SNES, GBA, wii, wiiu, switch, snes mini and there is a pixel perfect release on PC but it's not nintendo official. But it is good.
This was my Mario. First mario game I completed 100% and the one I always reminisce about. Picked it up and it's still awesome and even got my kids to jump in and enjoy it as well.
This is my favorite Mario game to do. Maybe I am nostalgic now but I spent hours upon hours playing this game. I re-played it again when it came out on the switch. The style and board design were not to difficult but there was a challenge from time to time.
Felt a lot like Super Mario Bros. 3, which isn't a bad thing, as that is the greatest Mario Bros game in my opinion. It just felt a little to much like they upgraded the last game, threw in some new things and changed it from "Bros" to "World."
If one had to define the perfect Super Mario game, this would probably be it. While it may not have the power-ups seen in SMB3 a couple years prior (can you imagine having 2 Mario games of this caliber released 2 years apart??), the level and world design, bosses, and gameplay take a step forward. This is one I simply never get tired of playing.
An all time Mario game. Holds up still. A perfect jump into the 16 bit generation. How many Yoshis were sacrificed in the course of history? Also a great soundtrack.
