This is probably the first RPG I ever played. I thought it was weird I had to take turns to fight. SInce this was my first RPG I thought every RPG had the timed button press for attacks and defense also. It was just a really good game to introduce people to RPGs and at the same time mix in classic Mario Bros. I think the people who made Mario Bros 2 made this game cuz you had to be tripping on something for this. A talking sword? Whaaaaaaaat.
Another one of those “how is a snes game with mediocre graphics one of the best games??” Moment.
Mario rpg is an action packed rpg where you travel through different worlds with 2 other changeable teammates collecting a key item to fix what was broken thanks to the evil boss smitty.
One of those games where I’ve played it so many times and have never once thought “i should retire this game”.
This captures the joy of a Mario game while adding the excellent RPG mechanics Square is known for. Geno is a great character even if Nintendo won’t see it and put him in Smash.
I'm typically not a fan of RPGs but obviously had to give this a try a few years ago. Really liked it. It's good ol' Mario fun with some light RPG elements. As in, no grinding and not overly difficult.
This game is underrated! I never expected it would be good when I played it on the SNES, but I racked up quite a bit of time. While I really enjoyed Paper Mario, there just isn't another Mario like this one.
I love this game so much. There was a good amount of strategy to it, which characters do you use in what situations. You had Princess Peach, who wasn’t strong in terms of hit points, but her magic could revive a fallen character. Bowser when he gets the gloves and throws Mario as his attack was just hilarious. It was a fun story. Lots of hidden gems.
How do you review this game in a paragraph. It's impossible. This game was the brain child of Nintendo and SquareEnix working together to make a beautiful baby. Sub characters that were created and never heard from again such as Gino and Mallow. A whole new storyline in the mario universe that was Save the world and not the damsel. Working along side bowser, getting advice from a floating frog and his tadpoles, Defeating a cake obsess wario rip off, journeying to the stars - through the clouds and into a giant factory to save the 7 stars and restore order to the world! Not to mention a sound track that won awards for best video game soundtrack. Yous have a solid turn based RPG. Die hards have been waiting years for a sequel. And yea. Paper matio has its moments. But not like this. This is another level. Get on this game. Play this game and love this game forever. This game is tough to find that being said. It fetches a high price resale on snes and was released on the wii and the snes mini. But not the switch... yet. But it could be. Just keep your eye out for it. You will not regret it.
A high that Nintendo has been chasing ever since (and maybe Squaresoft -- sorry Square Enix) have been chasing ever since. This game was not only prefect upon release but still holds up to this day. I have not had the best of times with the Paper Mario series (though I admittedly haven't played what I am told is the high watermark in 1,000 Year Door) but the RPG turn based elements are perfectly executed here with a great character set both old and new. To this day people still long for Geno and our Pinocchio-adjacent friend has done nothing else but be a Smash Bros. skin. That is cultural impact. This was also a ground breaker for what became a franchise gimmick of making Bowser empathetic or sharing insight into the megalomaniac dino-ish guy. A truly prefect game.
I did not play this until recently because I could never find a copy, but it’s amazing! This game led to so many of the mechanics of newer Mario games.
