Enjoy.

I honestly don't get the appeal of this game. Yoy go fast and dodge, but if sometimes an obstacle comes out last second, yoy are screwed. I honestly don't get kt
What I love about the early Sonic games was that it was not "hard" you knew what you needed to do. You never knew how far you would go in the game(without the ol Game Genie) and you could do well and end up far or you could have an off day and lose on World One.
Sonic was a lot of fun, I have a lot of great memories of playing with my older sister and her deciding she didn’t want to play after green hill zone every time. Good music! Fun levels! Terrifying drowning sequences! It’s got it all!
We were a Nintendo household growing up and I was never really jealous of any of my Genesis friends. Not even when Mortal Kombat came out because the SNES version plays so much better than the Genesis version anyway. A little bit of blood didn't matter (or sand). As for Sonic games. I never really loved them when I played them at a friend's house. First of all, I think it's too hard to go fast in this game, which is the whole point. I'm constantly hitting walls. I'm constantly hitting enemies and I never found it super engaging and fun. It's fine for what it is and the graphics are great for back then. That classic Genesis sound is good overall. It's a fine game but I don't have any personal connection to it.
UPDATE 10/18/23: Lowered it to 2-stars just because.
Sega had a fun response to the more wholesome Mario franchise, but it just isn't something you'll come back to time after time. The sequels got better.
I only got to play this at a friends house as a kid as he owned a Genesis while I had a Nintendo/Super Nintendo. Great game that defined Sonic for generations. Sadly the newer installments got worse overtime. However, I do have hope for the new Sonic Frontiers game.
I actually got started on the Sonic franchise through Sonic Spinball. But shortly after, I found these games on my cousins Sega and I was hooked. Simple mechanics but so much fun!
I remember playing this one at my aunt and uncle’s house with my bothers a whole bunch. Still remember how mad/sad I would get when I lost rings running into a spike or an enemy.
Copycat inspiration must be handled delicately and SEGA was wildly successful in proving how you could take an idea and improve it. I would drop my rings if I took a spike to the butt, too!
Spent countless hours making this guy spin. The Genesis was the first system I actually owned, and both Sonic and the Genesis hold a special place in my heart.
