Roguelike deckbuilder (if that makes sense) built around standard playing cards and jokers, where you play poker hands to earn chips, in order to win rounds and keep advancing. Games play quick, so it's a great one to have on the go on the Switch or Steam Deck. Has a ton of replay value with the amount of new content you can unlock as you play, the combos that the jokers can make, the different modified decks, the ways you can manipulate the deck, the "stakes" (difficulty levels) etc.

Worth every dime.

Bionic Commando
Remember many a snow day home from school trying to beat this one. I played it for years before it dawned on me that there wasn't a "jump" button. The bionic arm is such a fun mechanic.

Play the remake, if you enjoyed this one.

Super Metroid
One of the games that defined the genre. Played it when it was released, and still periodically go back and run through it to this day.

Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom
Played it on the SNES, and it made me seek out the other games. Definitely a niche area in gaming, but a must play if you're into (really) old school dungeon crawlers.

Vampire Survivors
Very fun roguelike "bullet heaven" where you do the shooting in order to keep the monsters off of you. Lots of unlockable characters, weapons and accessories that help you to progress further. The fanservice paying homage to older games is a nice touch.

Free on mobile, cheap on Steam.
