I played it for a bit when it first came out, but never quite got sucked in. It was fine, didn't love all the controls and I felt there were better racing games out there. But it's hard to knock it too much because it is free.
i really like the game mode but honestly the reason its getting 4 stars here is because im salty that epic is focusing more on this game than the main game of Rocket league... it really saddens me
This was a fun addition to the worlds of both Fortnite and Rocket League. Really slick racing gameplay and interesting courses. Just need some more variation in the maps and it'll be even better.
I've put off rating this game for a while because originally I wanted to give it a three. It was fun, but a lot of question marks. I didn't understand the drift mechanics in terms of maximizing potential. People were just so fast, straight gone most races, and I wasn't sure where to look to learn to get better.
Insert time trials. Time trials and time trial challenges changed everything for me. All of a sudden, every question I had, every little thing that didn't make sense started to make sense, & it just suddenly clicked for me.
The cars drive so smoothly. Being able to flip around from surface to surface, hitting boosts, maintaining speed with drifts. The tracks are so much fun, vary in difficulty. The ranked lobby system is so nice as well because you either race with your rank, or you race above your rank & quickly advance to get to the difficulty you should be racing against.
The boosts are such a strategy move. How quickly can you build one up? How long do you want to wait to build up your next? Do you want to save them for later use back to back, or use it at specific places?
The cars drive so nice, the tracks are beautiful, the racing is so much fun, the time trials are very very helpful along with the most recent update to time trials with being able to quickly reset, see times, and go against your ghost. There are things I tried to take from Mario Kart (in terms of drifting) that *DO NOT APPLY TO ROCKET RACING* which was something I had to realize & learn to also help get better.
I feel like it's a steep learning curve to get from step one to step two, but once you get to step two: the curve/steps after that are significantly less steep (almost flat).
Solid, fun racing game. Lots of Rocket League mechanics without having to chase a damn ball, so I'm loving it. Some of the tracks get clunky but overall I find myself playing this more than BR on Fortnite.
I love how intuitive it feels. Drifting was easy to get and the shortcuts are fun to find. I like that it adds jumping, flying and driving upsides down and sideways into the mix. I wish ranked would cycle back to the easier tracks for more variety.
This is a solid racing game. The controls are easy to get, the ranked and unranked racing is nice to have, time trials make it infinitely questable and you can set up your own lobbies with your friends.
This is my Least Favorite out of the new modes. While I am pretty good at it and could probably get to some pretty high ranks if I tried I just get extremely bored when playing it. I could see how it could appeal to some people it just doesnt to me.
I had some pretty low expectations when I heard Rocket Racing was going to be a "minigame" in Fortnite if I'm being completely honest. But after putting a decent amount of time into it, my bitter feelings are quickly starting to go away. A lot of my expectations were based on the fact that I've played over 1,000 hours in Rocket League, though, so hopefully a lot of my hopes can come true in the future.
Firstly, I'm a little sad that this game doesn't utilize Rocket League's driving physics, but I'm getting more and more comfortable with the more traditional racing-game physics the more and more I play. There are some weird inconsistencies with collisions that are a little annoying when most collisions are super forgiving. I think the most frustrating aspect for me specifically is driving nose-first into a wall completely resetting your car.
I will say the one benefit as a Rocket League player is the cross-game ownership between Rocket Racing and Rocket League. Ranking up in Racing so far has granted different car cosmetics which become available in Rocket League. While the current amount of items in Racing is only a very small fraction of what's in Rocket League, I think it's clear that Psyonix will slowly add more and more items with each season and chapter.
This game has a lot of potential being directly in Fortnite for user-created custom maps because of UEFN, and it would be interesting to see custom maps make it into the rotation of maps for ranked queues. Along with the increase of customization as they bring more and more items into Rocket Racing, this game really is a nice addition as a Rocket League racing game. This game has potential to be a 5 star rating for me in the future, but it's not quite there yet.
So far I am loving it. I actually hope minimal changes are made to the game right now. Classic racing with mini boosts from drifting while filling up a super boost meter that can be used with a press of a button. Controls are tight and smooth with tracks being set up perfectly for the soles and style of racing. Hope to see maybe rolling or flips that could be done to give mini boosts but if it doesn’t happen it won’t take away from the game. Getting fish tailed is annoying but I have caught up after having it done to me. Great game that adds to Fortnite’s repertoire.
My new obsession. Cars drive smoothly, the tracks are unique and there's a learning curve to doing consistently well. As always, having a ranked mode is a plus. Love that Fortnite is supporting this and allowing me to gain battlepass XP while enjoying this fun game.
I've avoided seeing what the "critics" say. Just wanted to try it out and enjoy it (or not). Played for hours Saturday night. Rejuvenated my love for racing.
