I absolutely love Risk of Rain 2, it's one of my favorite indie titles. The way the studio developed this game gives it a sandbox feeling, similar to Minecraft. Each game feels different, so every time I pick up new items, the classes / combos is consistently fun.
There has never been a truer statement than to say this game is "Don't break the game. (Optional)" Risk of Rain 2 (RoR2), is a game that starts off simple enough, but with the difficulty increasing with time it can easily become of a beautiful chaotic mix of you being completely busted with your items and the enemies being able to hit you for much more damage. This mixes to a very fun and unique rougue-like that gives you the option to reach the final boss or start from the beginning to see how crazy you and the game can be by the end, with it sometimes ending only when you either OHKOing the enemies or the enemies OHKOing you. Can be a lot for some, but if you want a game that doesn't limit any heights, this is one to try.
I'm a sucker for rogue-likes, and this one is no exception. I really appreciate the advanced customization that becomes unlockable the more you play and find. The worlds are cleverly crafted with seemingly endless amounts of hidden gems and corners to explore, which encourages upgrading characters' transversal skills and always leaves me saying "just one more run".
One of the only rogue like games I've played, but this game is just fantastic! Lots of unlockable content and settings to keep the game refreshing, but also challenging! The Survivors of the Void DLC also added some great new items, enemies (including an amazing new boss), stages, and two new characters to play as! Only real flaw is that the game doesn't explain too well what each item does, but there's a fan wiki out there that covers all things Risk of Rain that you could ever imagine!
I bought this game because i am a fanbox of Gearbox but this game is awesome.
It is one of those games that is so simple to play but hard to master. You start playing and next thing you know it is 3 am and you have to be at work in a few hours.
The lore is deep and there is always more to discover. It was also the fist game that I bought my son when he started gaming on PC.
A truly magnificent masterpiece of gameplay and music. This game makes you feel frantic in the heat of battle, and like a stranger in a strange empty land at a quickly alternating pace. Also check out the original, for some of the best music for any side scroller.
THE modern roguelike and breaker of many upsetting trends. RoR2 opts for making its players feel like a god with compounding items and a time-based difficulty and enemy count increase, but it never neglects the core build that makes each character special. Similarly, the game throws out randomized rooms in favor of pre-built, well-designed 3D maps where instead item placements and key structures are randomized. Altogether, a fantastic game.
