Pokémon Snap is a 1999 first-person photography game with rail shooter style gameplay mechanics developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It was first released in Japan in March 1999, and was later released in July 1999 in North America and in September 2000 for PAL regions. It is a spin-off game in the Pokémon series, being one of the first console-based games for it, and featuring many Pokémon rendered for the first time in real-time 3D. The game was re-released for the Wii's Virtual Console in December 2007 and Wii U's Virtual Console in 2016.

This game was groundbreaking at the time. I was a huge fan of the original gameboy game. Seeing the Pokémon “living” in their “natural” environment was spectacular. It was deeply rewarding to those who played repeatedly and found the secrets.

I vaguely remember enjoying it as a kid, but as an adult, this game doesn't hold up. It is incredibly frustrating and not satisfying.

I really love the concept of pokemon snap, I just felt like it was too short and like... didn't feature all of the mons. This game had a lot more potential, but was still enjoyable.

I don't think anyone could have predicted how popular taking pictures in a video game would be. Seems redundant, but this title was surprisingly fun.

Only Nintendo can make taking pictures of fictional animals so much fun. I didn't play much of the Pokémon RPGs, but the N64 Pokémon games were always great.
