As a pokemon game, it's yellow or eevee, and thats pretty basic. But as an intro to the series, it's the perfect game to get any young kid to play such a rich franchise. I would recommend this to any parent who wants their kid to dip their toes into gaming
Take the overworld style of the newer games with Pokemon wondering the grass. Add the pokemon go motion capture (if you choose) to catch pokemon now instead of battling them. A great entry game for a child getting into pokemon while still getting to appreciate the original game without all the tedious features of older games.
Much easier I feel like than Pokémon yellow was as a kid. Still have to finish the Pokédex, but even that I feel hasn’t been that bad. It was weird catching a Pokémon without battling it first. You get to battle a few Pokémon before you try to capture them, and I feel like it was easy catching the legendary birds. I like that you can transfer Pokémon from Pokemon GO to this game.
It’s almost a perfect Pokemon game but one thing that could make it better if it had a little features like other before. To not fight most of the Pokémon’s while catching them is not as fun as fighting. However adding Pokemon form my phone from Pokemon go made it so much easier for me since I have hours in that game.
This is a great game for what it is. I don't love the catching mechanic because I'm old school. It's an easier version of the original red/blue/yellow, but I love the graphics and the gameplay so far.
I have very little experience with Pokemon games so I didn't have to compare this with the original Blue/Red games. With the base 150 Pokemon I am accustomed to from my brief Pokemon fandom 20 some odd years ago, this was a joy to pick up and play. Requiring the joy-con knocks 1 star off.
The capture mechanic made this a perfect entryway for my kids to get into Pokémon. They've since moved onto the battle capture system but this was much easier for them to understand.
