Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version are 1999 role-playing video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color. They are the first installments in the second generation of the Pokémon video game series. They were released in Japan in 1999, Australia and North America in 2000, and Europe in 2001. Pokémon Crystal, an enhanced version, was released a year later in each region. In 2009, on the 10th anniversary of Gold and Silver, remakes titled Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver were released for the Nintendo DS.

Getting to journey round 2 regions, some new side quests like the bug catching comp & some good additions to the original pokedex made this a great sequel for me

I really enjoyed Gold and Silver (I had Silver). I know a lot of people say it was the best, and there are good arguments for that. And at the time, it was amazing. Breeding Pokemon, day and night? Amazing. I do think some improvements in later gens were more franchise changing than this gen. But it was a great game. I remember being very disappointed that breeding didn’t work the way I thought it would. I thought if I bred a weedle and caterpie I’d get a butterfly bee hybrid monstrosity. I’m still disappointed that’s not how it works. At least there’s a website to make those cursed combinations now.

I think I could safely say that Pokemon Gold is my favorite mainline series Pokemon game. The introduction of a day/night cycle with certain events happening at specific times on specific days of the week was for some reason amazing to my nerdy little brain.
All kinds of new Pokemon to catch and evolve, too! Then just when you think you've beat the game: back to Kanto!
