"My brother committed blasphemy (just kidding, sort of) and switched to the PlayStation as I stuck with Nintendo.
But just as with Sega, the gaming library didn’t appeal to me much (especially compared to Nintendo).
However, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was a particular standout for me on this console. One of the few games both my brother and I enjoyed (we rarely like the same things)."
"I was more on the N64 but the leap Sony made with CD tech cannot be ignored. It's weird that the games on the PS1 classic don't reflect all that I think were the strongest. What an entry for a first console."
"I remember getting this for Xmas and I was like wtf... this isn't an N64 that all my friends have... but fell in love with games like metal gear, syphon filter, hitman and splinter cell.. I enjoyed sneaking around if u couldn't tell ?. This began the playstation period of my life where mario/nintendo were an afterthought. "
"It’s Saturday night you have played all day outside and now it’s time to drop into an abandoned warehouse Superman by goldfinger starts, it was *chefs kiss* amazing. Never owned one but cousin did and I loved every visit "
"I remember thinking it would be difficult for someone else to get market share in the home-gaming industry, but this one worked out pretty well. Metal Gear Solid and FF7 are two of my favorite games of all time."
"I knew I had to own this because Final Fantasy 3/6 was my favorite game, and my hype around FF7 was unreal. Squaresoft had migrated away from Nintendo to Sony, and I had to follow suit. Still, I was a kid and this was expensive. My brothers and I saved our money and managed to get it 10% off when a new Best Buy opened nearby. We were not disappointed! Started with Crash Bandicoot and Mega Man 8. And then the flood of RPGs came in - FF7, FF Tactics, Suikoden, Breath of Fire 3, FF8 and much more. During that time, my N64 was mainly used for multiplayer, but the best single player experiences were on Playstation. I only took away one star because I don't think a lot of the games have aged as well as SNES and PS2, nor was this on the same tier as the Switch."
"I was young, but I felt that the build quality of the PS was poor. Mine broke where it holds the disc. It then quickly became obsolete. But it, among Sega's failure, led the way to the PS5 and the greatness quality graphic gaming."
"What started a line of the most popular gaming systems ever, is possibly the most popular of it's era. The Playstation had so many great games, and they just kept coming. Pair this with one of the best controller designs ever, and you have a great success story. "
"Such a great system. The PS1 really changed gaming for me. I was getting older when this system came out and wanted something a little different than just Mario or Zelda. I wanted a game that created a better story and could pull me into the universe. Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Suikoden, the list goes on and on. I played this system so much that the only way I could play it was placing it upside down. If you know, you know. In my list of best consoles this is in the top 5 for best ever. "
"A good friend of mine had one of these. I honestly did not play it that often as we were a Nintendo only family for the longest time. But the times i got to play with my friend on this was always something special. I wanted to a PS but my parents only let us have Nintendo."
"First system owned that wasn't in house before I was born. Dude, I loved this system. This system was actually where my love for gaming started out. I remember getting it for my 7th birthday & it was the last one in stock. All I wanted to do was play this game & going back through the titles list, so many memories brought back that started with this system. So many nights I was up later than I should have been just in my own gaming world. I can still, to this day, see the start up in my head."
"2nd system I ever really owned, but introduced me to such a wide variety of games. First time I’ve played games like Final Fantasy and other great RPGs. I remember being scared out of my mind playing resident evil 2. So many times I’d fake being sick to sit at home and finish a game.
Also, who doesn’t remember having to leave on their PS for 16 hours because they couldn’t find a save point"
