Nintendo DS
2004-11-21
The Nintendo DS is a handheld game console produced by Nintendo, released globally across 2004 and 2005. The DS, an initialism for

I feel like this was a big jump for Nintendo for the obvious reasons but it was also backwards compatible.

Trying to find your Nintendo DS stylus feels like you need a summoning circle, an incantation, and a pact to sell your soul, only to discover it was right in front of you the whole time. Minus 1 star for soul stealing.

I was a fan of it, but not enough to go out and buy my own. I had a few friends that had one and let me try. The new two screens feature was fun.

Too gimmicky for my tastes. But that’s Nintendo being Nintendo.

Love the sual screen functionality and how some games used this!

Despite having battery life issues, this was a huge step up from the game boy and a great leap for portable devices

Incredible system at the time. Not only did it have a ton of great RPGs but had games that made solid use of the touch screen. The professor Layton series hooked me with its addictive puzzles and surprisingly interesting stories. I really enjoyed the two Zelda entries too.

Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DS XL... This system is Nintendo's Skyrim. But just like Skyrim, it was a masterpiece! Playing Mario Kart late at night with my sister was a memory I'll never forget.

I didn’t get a DS until a few years ago. Since then, I’ve made my way through the Pokémon games. The Switch has partially made these obsolete but they are still solid little systems to take on the go.

Another 5 star system from Nintendo. Great form factor and amazing games. Backwards compatibility was key also.

It's 2004, you're in 7th grade, and until this point mobile gaming with friends included a link cable. Now, all of a sudden, you can play the new Supe Mario 64 mode with your friends who are in a separate room from you. Eventually, you'll also play Mario Kart DS. TGR Nintendo DS can now almost be seen as a precursor to the switch. Large titles in a mobile device.
