Considering when it launched its a great game. While the graphics aged poorly the main gameplay is really good. Each area has different objectives and cause and effect can be felt through mission design (pesky helicopter in your way ? Go blow the helipad) and exploring the areas gives you the opportunity to increase your charisma which allows you to recruit more allies in a given mission. The squad system may be rudimentary and the ai is what youd expect for 2003 but it gets the job done. This game deserves a remake and a sequel ASAP.
The game itself is really pretty and usually runs well, however, the monetization is garbage. The game also definitely caters to one specific audience with its characters and character designs.
Lots of fun when playing with a group that is in to it but not fun otherwise. The excitement of killing a whole lobby and getting away with it is hard to beat though.
As a young kid i played hundreds of hours of pokemon on the gameboy and for every one of those hours my imagination ran wild of being next to the pokemon and watching the battle play out. This game comes so close to satisfying my imagination that childhood me could cry. It might not look the prettiest or run the smoothest but the pokemon themselves have never looked better. The combat is quick and fun and the story is surprisingly dark (for pokemon) and one of the toughest battles in any pokemon game ever. Ultimately an imperfect but fun step into the future of pokemon.
Pros: Incredible story, fun gameplay and combat that never gets old.
Cons:The climbing is wonky to say the least. As large as the world is it can feel cramped sometimes with robot dinos on top of other robot dinos which can make stealth a non option.
TLDR: Incredible and original story with amazing graphics and combat. Some minor tweaks would put this game over the top.
(Based off the original release at its original time)
Pros: one of the first large, open(ish) games. The temples and items are tons of fun and even though the main weapon has very little as far as move variety (combos, light and heavy, etc) the combat never really gets stale. Helped set a standard for all of the 3D zelda games that came after, a standard that has stayed high and made zelda one of the most celebrated game series of all times.
Cons: Can get somewhat glitchy, the water temple is notriously convulted.
TLDR: Widely considered one of the best games of all time, a well deserved title through and through. Any success from any of the following 3D zeldas owes a large part of that success to Ocarina of Time.
Pros: The art direction both graphically and musically is solid. The physics system invites experimentation both for gameplay and combat.
Cons: The durability of weapons felt way too low which could cause some encounters to become way more difficult than necessary. While some of the shrines were fun there were too many and it got repetitive quickly. The shrines and beasts didnt scratch that legendary zelda temple itch. The korok seed quest is literal crap.
TLDR: The game is fun to jump in and experiment with and exploration is a blast but hopefuy future installments will see the best of BOTW and the best of previous entries.
Pros: Fun, fast gamplay, great in groups with lots of possibilities for variety. The rocket pass is a one time investment.
Cons: The community at large is aggressively and increasingly toxic, matchmaking is busted and doesnt account for leavers and throwers. Every new update introduces bugs. Private servers are incredibly hit or miss.
TLDR: This game can be a ton of fun with the right group (shout out TDG), but falls off immensely when playing solo.
