People are saying this was the best of the series and those people are wrong; dead wrong. The story is good, but the character leveling up and skill specialization was totally dumbed down, which reduces replayability and makes you much more of a generic meathead in how you solve problems.
It also doesn't solve the 'wait around in an elevator' issues of Mass Effect 1, which make even navigating the interior of your own ship an annoyance.
Is it a good game? Yes. Is it the best of the series? No. Should you play it if you enjoyed Mass Effect 1? Definitely!
Man, they fell short on ME. But they freaking delivered on ME2!! This game is in a lot of peoples’ top ten lists and it’s well deserved! Such a great game! They fixed the broken mechanics and the gameplay is incredible!
When someone asks, this is my favorite game of all time. The hybrid RPG sci-fi shooter is perfect.
Full disclosure I got this for my PS3 so I never played one, I just did the motion comic at the beginning to make the decisions that gameplay from one would have produced. Sure, three did t quite live up the the hype but I promise you two does, and even though this isn't a review of three, my actions in two had clear impacts on the three with that story.
Great acting, great graphics, great gameplay, truly a perfect game and even 12 years later this still stands atop the list to the point that no other ME game has been able to match the joy that I still get from this. The skill sets you can develop, the story turns, the side quests, all yours to decide on your own. Try it. Enjoy!
Not so much a review, but something I love about this game is how much it makes me feel like a space captain - the only job I ever actually wanted. (Not a real one - too much math, but the fun future kind). My dad got into gaming the last couple of.years and I gave this series to him, billed as my all time favorite. He's now played through more often than I have. Getting to share it with him - the way he shared Star Trek and Star Wars with me when I was a kid - has been incredibly gratifying and fun. Even though he goes for Ashley over Liara, which I'll never understand.
