"I'm planning to pre-order day 1 anyway but let's go. Pros: -Joycons look somewhat improved and the mouse feature will be very interesting to see. I've long believed they were a quality control disaster. -I assume the specs will be much improved. Frame rate dips on a 2.5D top-down title (Echoes) in 2024 is absolutely ridiculous. And imagine Metroid or Zelda in full 4K HDR visuals. -I play docked 99% of the time but the increased size looks nice and might make handheld (or at least tabletop) more enjoyable. -Backwards (digital and physical) compatibility was a must with the amount of software Switch had in its lifetime and the pro controllers are perfect so glad to see they didn't mess with those (apparently). -8+ years is a long, long time for one generation. This won't be a graphics revolution like from SNES to N64 or an innovation jump like from GameCube to Wii, but it's still a long overdue upgrade. Cons: -The name is meh. Nintendo has often come up with a new name to go along with what the new innovative features are. Minor gripe though. -An announcement for an announcement... 2.5 months before we get a release date, pricing, launch titles, etc? Brutal and very on brand."

"The game is @spiritual-warfare and I would recommend it for the experience. It's an unlicensed game so might be hard to track down. My grandparents had an NES with some very random games and this was one I would spend quite a bit of time with. It was very much a top-down Zelda clone. Your weapons were fruit as in the fruit of the Spirit and you would collect the armor of God throughout your journey to make you stronger. Each fruit was different when you threw it too. In true 80s/90s Christian era fashion, you battled actual demons and random NPCs you encountered as enemies. I never beat the game but I could get pretty far and it had some fun worlds. Apparently the final boss is Satan himself that you get to stab, which is pretty badass if you ask me. Despite some questionable aspects of the story (don't go in that bar! throw fruit at enemies to convert them!), the gameplay itself was pretty decent. Fun fact: after repeated warnings from an angel, I entered a bar and lost my belt of truth. Now I don't wear belts."

"I shared this story on my podcast but not everyone may have heard it. When I was around 9, I was playing @nhl-hockey which was my most played Genesis title by far. A freak storm came out of nowhere with a bolt of lightning taking out a giant tree in our front yard. The damaged from that exposed our natural gas line, which the energy then travelled through and into the room I was sitting in (beside a natural gas fireplace). I remember feeling a weird burst go through my body and it resulted in a fried Genesis controller and somehow fried fax machine that was also in that room. I've yet to hear of someone getting shocked by lightning while in a basement. Photo taken last night in my back yard. "

The racing mechanics are muddy and while Adventure Mode is still a lot of fun and the hovercraft/airplane vehicles are still unique, the racing itself leaves a lot to be desired. Upgrade to 4K graphics, polish up the controls, bring in some new items/characters from the DK universe, and most importantly add in online gaming and you have yourself a fantastic remake."

"I’ve been struggling with this one more than any other matchup. In the end, every time I looked at the results, I found myself hoping Kart would be ahead. I didn’t even realize it right away, but I was. Kart is the only true multiplayer game remaining. It is the 2nd best selling Nintendo game EVER. The moment I played it for the first time a decade ago, I knew it was the best Kart game ever made. It’s the reason I’ve made many many friends over the past few years. With gaming being a much younger medium than music/movies/television, I think the definition of what is "retro" will be different. Some might say anything before the jump to 3D, others might use a specific year, but I think it's safe to go by generation. I played NES as a kid so I likely skew to the older end of the ages around here, but when I think of the N64/PlayStation era, I would consider that retro now. That also essentially takes us to the end of the 20th century with the launch of PS2 and GameCube being 2000/2001. If you think that's too recent, think of it this way: the Sony PlayStation will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. It debuted in Japan in 1994, a mere 11 years after the NES did. Retro."
