Best in the series hands down. And I will fight with people on this. This is what made mario kart stand out for me. Not only the idea of double players and double items, but the tracks, the battle systems. This is innovation and Nintendo needs to go back to it
While it gets points for being the most unique mario kart, and trying something new, I think the normal style of one racer is preferable. Not that this is bad by any means, as it is tons of fun. Especially for kids or anyone who may not be that skilled at video games or racing games in general.
The special items was a nice touch, but again, I think it is preferable to be able to use all items with any character.
Some great new courses as always (miss Dino Dino Jungle), and very fun additional battle modes!
Double Dash is the best Mario Kart. Two characters per kart was an amazing idea. And character specific items was icing on the cake. Being able to race co-op was so great too, especially since my best friend hated driving and preferred shooting items. It would be a great feature to have come back now to play with my kids. And lets not forget the best battle course ever, the Gamecube.
I loved that they tried something different with this entry in the Kart series. The two character per Kart idea is genius, and something I really wish they'd reintroduce to the series. Imagine co-op racing with some of the folks on this site! The characters, tracks, and music impressed as always. I just wish there was a re-release or something similar.
Mario Kart games have always been a big attractant for people to come to NES. This title in the series took things to a new level with the coop play and 2 per kart.
I echo so many sentiments that we need a new iteration of Mario Kart that brings back the co-op and character-specific items.
Double Dash was a much-needed stepping stone for the Mario Kart franchise.
It was not good but it paved the way for more multiplayer racing games. Having a buddy manning the gun while you focus on driving was a brilliant idea they must bring back.
It would make kart gangs a whole new contest!
The best Mario kart game!! The new concept of 2 drivers (could be single or 2 player) controlling one kart was such an awesome idea. It was also the first Mario kart game to implement 3D into the game and not pre-rendered sprites. A great game to play with a friend because one person drives and the other controls items.
It’s a shame this game is impossible to find that’s not expensive bc it’s such a blast
I'm not sure if I'd ever want the 2 character mechanic to return, but it was fun to have for one game. The unique items is something I liked even more though. Bring that back! We were also given some legendary tracks. More GCN tracks in the DLC waves!
I like this game. I played it too much but years and years too late. I didn't love the mechanic of different characters having different items. I know others do, but it just isn't satisfying for me. I love the tracks and the two players on one cart, but not the 5 stars that I wish I could have given it.
I like that Nintendo swung for the fences with dual riders. It was very different and I enjoyed strategizing on which pairs were the best (the babies with chain chomps were always a favorite). Also, hooking up two GameCubes on two TVs to play 8-player was an amazingly fun time. It doesn’t quite live up to MK8 so I could not grant it 5 stars.
I remember playing this one with my brothers and neighbors… it was fun… until you needed to turn left and your partner would turn the other way… or they threw the items waaaay before or after they needed to be used (I’m looking at you, Rolly!) Other than that, it was a lot of fun. It did cause a lot of fights, though… still haven’t talked to Rolly…
This was actually a pretty fun Mario Kart game. The dual riders actually added a fun element. The courses don't really stand out in my mind apart from Baby Park. I raced that thing trying to refine my time trial down so much, trying to beat the ghost. I would imagine that track, and that goal, is where I got the slide boost down.
It's quite obvious that many people have differing opinions on Mario Kart games, but one that no one can argue against is that this game, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (which is the only Mario Kart game to have an exclamation point in the title,) is one of the boldest choices Nintendo made for the franchise. Unlike adding Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach, this one leap was filled with love and care. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is no doubt the best way to get a Mario Kart experience, but if you are looking to have a ton of fun, with double the laughter, for sure pick up this game and play it with some friends.
This is the best Mario Kart out there. The fact that you could dodge blue shells and red shells with drifting boosts added a level of skill instead of just needing an item. The two characters on a car created a mixture of specialty items that was a blast. Best Mario Kart.
Double dash was double the fun. Loved having 2 racers in the kart and having specific items for your characters. One of the best games on the GameCube!
Mario kart 8 is clearly the pinnacle of kart, but Double Dash was the one I put the most time in. The weight classes and special character items really moved the series forward. And player 2 was great for the younger sibling.
This is a game that I will rate 5 stars even though I hate going back and playing it. The drifting mechanics are so different than MK8 that it’s hard to go back. But the gameplay was incredible!! Switching characters midrace and having special items is something they should think about bringing back.
