The card-based battles were surprisingly fun, I was prepared to be disappointed since it wasn’t a traditional Kingdom hearts but it worked. The story is bananas as always, but the core gameplay plus the Disney environments were great
This game. When it first released on the gba I had no clue what was going on. It felt odd. I later played it on the ps2 and it felt much better though it felt like it belonged more on the gba than the ps2.
This story takes place right after KH1 where sora and gang travel to castle oblivion fighting Organization XIII. What is different about this game compared to all of them is the battle system is cards.. Though it sounds awful its not as bad as it sounds. Fighting this way takes alot of thought and planning so you dont waste cards. There is definitely a learning curve that takes alittle to get used to but thankfully it starts off slow so you have time to figure it out. The story imo is very solid where you get to walk through sora and rikus stories. All the worlds come from soras memories and the castle they travel through leads to the plot of KH2. You can 100% skip playing this game and watch the cinematics if the card battle style isnt attractive but i recommend you do that minimally because of the information this game gives on the plot of the story.
Maybe it was because I played the remastered version on PS2, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game and its card based battle system. It was genius to create an entire game to connect KH1 and 2 seamlessly.
