Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is an action role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix in collaboration with Disney Interactive Studios for the PlayStation Portable, serving as the sixth installment in the Kingdom Hearts series. The game was released on UMD in Japan on January 9, 2010, in North America on September 7, 2010, and in the PAL regions on September 10, 2010. An international version of the game titled Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix was released in Japan in January 2011 featuring the changes made in the non-Japanese versions. A direct sequel, Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage, was released in January 2017 as a part of a bundle of games called Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

This opinion may change, but this game is easily my favorite out of the entire KH series. Built for events that happened way before the entire series, the game gives you 3 characters to play as and experience the story through. While each one goes through the same world as each other, the challenges and ways they see the worlds for each character is unique enough to make the game overall stay very interesting. Combine that with the forms mechanic that charges up passively, the game is a very fun mix of challenge and wailing while giving you 3 different ways to play the game through each character. Along with all of that, a story whose final act really hits home one of the reason this game is so good. Definitely worth a play if you haven't yet.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Finally finished this one. I’m torn on the rating because it has been the least enjoyable KH for me so far. In reality, I’d probably give it a 3.5. I did not love the repetitive gameplay through the three characters, but being that it was a full game on a portable system, I understand. BBS added a great layer to the story and took the series from a random island, with some random kids, who randomly got some weapons, to a story of whether or not one chooses their fate or if their fate is chosen for them. Even if it was not my favorite, I will say the final boss fights in each story were fun and challenging. I’m looking forward to starting Dream Drop Distance next.
