Joust is an action game developed by Williams Electronics and released in arcades in 1982. While not the first two-player cooperative video game, Joust's success and polished implementation popularized the concept. Player 1 rides an ostrich, player 2 a stork. Repeatedly pressing the flap button gains altitude, while a two-directional joystick controls direction. In a collision with enemy knights riding buzzards—or the other player—the higher rider dismounts the other.

I'm not sure how this style of game was ever popular! The controls were awful and the game simply wasn't fun!

Everybody so far complaining about this game today is funny. Yes it's simple. Yes the graphics are crude. Yes Balloon Fight ripped this off and did it better. Yes it's a ridiculous idea for a game. Yes the little pitter-patter of your feet as you run across the screen is adorable. Yes this game isn't good. But hey it's a classic.

This game was simple but fun. I played a bunch of this on my parents Windows 98 PC. One of the first true arcade games I ever really played after Centipede.

I love this game, but for a couple of reasons. I didn’t play it until about a year ago. I read the book Ready Player One, and played a huge role in that book. I had to go play it after that and it’s held a special place ever since! Side note, You need to read Ready Player One!!!!! So much Video Gane Nostalgia! The movie is trash….
