Hello! I’m Sami Scigouski and I am a game designer, narrative designer, writer, photographer, musician, and competitive equestrian. Unofficial child of Channel 3
One of the smoothest feeling roguelikes I've ever played. With an interesting setting, and characters that were taken up to an 11 by the writers and voice actors, alongside incredible replayability and charm, this is a near perfect game to me.
challenging, but you can learn how to do better, and if not, the game's accessibility will allow you to still have a blast playing it and enjoying the incredibly detailed story.
Amazing visuals, very fun gameplay loop, and just about everything else I could give this game credit for! Definitely need to go back and play it again sometime soon.
Early rating but on my 6th escape attempt and I am getting the hang of the game. Seems to be very challenging but I keep going back for more. This is the second rougelike game I have played and I am beginning to really like it.
My favorite roguelike, and one that I spent hours upon hours trying to beat. It takes a lot of trial and error, but I got there, and it was very rewarding.
This game utilizes the rogue-like format in I think the most clever way I've ever encountered it, weaving it into the fabric of the story itself. The fights are heart pounding, the weapons system works in a way that constantly refreshes the gameplay, the storyline is phenomenal, the characters are a blast, the replay value is extensive, it's got speedrunning potential if you're into that sorta thing...what else can I say? You just usually don't get this much bang for your buck these days.
It's also worth mentioning that in an era where toxicity in the workplace sadly seems to be a feature of the gaming industry, Supergiant Games apparently does a really good job of not being like that. Kotaku wrote a good article about it (not sure how the Channel 3 gods feel about posting direct links yet but I'm sure you can find it).
I cannot overstate how perfect this game is:
–Incredible visuals, art, and character design
–Wonderful sense of openness and representation that isn't afraid to present queerness as a matter of fact, includes a god that uses they/them pronouns, and has Greek gods depicted as a diverse cast of characters
–Incredible voice acting by the entire ensemble
–The score is perfect and drives you through the game and is affected by your actions as you play—neat!
–Replay value to the point that even after I rolled credits, I had weeks and weeks of gameplay left full of new discoveries
It nails the rogue-like gameplay loop very well, but the way that each death gets woven into the story line really makes it shine. Other rogue-likes I've played always feel like the story resets each run - you still get the same "welcome to the castle!" dialog from that first NPC - but here, your father belittles you for getting killed by Medusas, and it's hysterical.
Great baby's first Roguelike. Easy to pick up and play. Great sound track, story, and art. If you are at all interested in Roguelike games this is a must play.
This game is fantastic. The variety of boons (and combinations of boons) you can get in a run, the different weapons you can use, etc all make it very replayable, and you always feel like you're making progress toward getting better. That, and the music goes hard enough that you don't even really care when you die and have to restart.
Want to rip your hair out in frustration but enjoy doing it? This is the game for you! With absolutely breathtaking art work and a very solid story I can't recommend this game enough
Hades succeeds where other rogue likes fail in keeping players engaged and replaying over and over without getting stale. The story continues way past the “main” story and keeps adding layers the more you engage with the characters. I’m 80 escape attempts and I could probably do another 80 and still have things to do in this game. A must play.
I swear I’m not here to give 5 stars to every game. The algorithms just got me in my feels! Realistically, you don’t need people like me to tell you to pick this one up… I’m pretty sure it won some big awards or something
