Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto III
I remember going to GameStop and trading in my NES and 80 games, my SNES and about 50 bands, and my N64 and about 25 games all for a PS2 and this game. I've regretted it every day since. PS2 is amazing but I wish I still had that small fortune of games. Anyway, I liked this game a lot.

Grand Theft Auto III
A lot of nostalgia of hanging out with my friends as a teenager doing missions. I remember how groundbreaking the open world seemed for gaming. It’ll always be a 5 ⭐️ for me.

Grand Theft Auto III
I understand that 'world as a sandbox' could be fun in principle, but it's almost like that movie "The Purge" - instead of running around looting I'd be under my kitchen sink crying.

I remember bootlegging the OG GTA as a 13 year old hoping my mom wouldn’t see the messages on the in game beeper (IYKYK). Fast forward to me as a young adult and seeing the game I loved in glorious third-person. This way the GTA that spawned the current generation. A wonderful open world, gripping storyline, and side quests made this game a winner. While 4 and 5 took it even further, this was the OG of the GTA games we know and love.

This game will always hold a special place in my heart. I don’t even remember how old I was, but I remember the first time I watched someone beat the shit out of a civilian, steal his car, then mow down people with a quick drive by then thinking “shit, games like this exist!?” I had to be maybe 13, & thankfully my parents weren’t aware of what this game was about 🤣

Grand Theft Auto III
Truly revolutionary. The fun part of this story is that I think @tucknuts was 15 when I picked this up for him. Whoops. It was also the first and I think only time I was ever carded for a game (I was 18, I should have taken that as a hint).
That aside the leap from 2 to 3 is bonkers. They made leaps and bounds after this but it was a cultural phenomenon.

I remember seeing this game at a friend's birthday party. I could not believe this level of openness could happen in a video game.

This changed GTA as we know from that top down to right in the middle of it. I was able to buy this over Christmas vacation and spent the next 2 weeks cruising Liberty City! This game really did pave the way for similar games like this and refreshed the series.
