It is Dungeon Crawler meets Stardew Valley (sorta). You have to tend to your shop in order to progress in the dungeon. You go to the dungeons at night, collect loot, then morning comes and you sell your loot to customers. But there’s no set price at first, that’s up to you to figure out. Plus the market fluctuates so you make more or less what the market value is depending on how popular the item is. Oh! But there’s a twist! Sell too much of an item and it becomes less popular. Economics, baby! I tell ya… wha…? Boring the kids with economi…? Stop while I’m ahe…? Ok. Play the game. It’s a good price, a good time sink, and a great pick up for in between those lengthy AAA titles!
This is a “git gud” game for me. You are Little Mac, an underdog boxer who’s too short and too light to compete against these giant goons. Punch-Out is a “rinse and repeat” kind of game where you have to remember your opponent’s patterns and use them against them. By the time you get to Mike Tyson (or Mr. Dream), the fights are nigh impossible unless you have those patterns and reflexes on lock down. This game taught me patience. Can’t get too fancy or you’ll end up on the mat while Ref. Mario is counting you to 10 while you viciously smash every controller button there is.
As a kid, I had this neighbor who would invite us to his house to watch him play Contra. The music alone got you pumped up as the lone soldier appeared on the screen guns a blazing. This was like being Rambo. The controls were easy back then. One button to shoot, another one to jump, the directional pad to aim. Shoot everything in sight. Simple. To this day this is an awesome pick up game (especially if you have the unlimited lives cheat and state save options). So go put your bandana on, grab your controller, and kick some baddies’ ass.
This is an amazing game for me. Star Wars and Legos!!! It’s like kid me’s dream come true! There is so much to do and immerse yourself into. From visiting cities like Mos Espa or Theed to traveling in space and getting into space dog fights, you’ll find yourself with plenty to do for hours! This is not to mention the large amount of characters and upgrades you can get (did I mention there’s secret cards you can collect that can give you big heads or make “pew pew” sounds?).
The beauty is that it’s easy to pick up and play, so your kids can play along with you. The missions and challenges are challenging enough to give you a run for your money, but not super hard to accomplish that it might discourage you.
So set your ship to hyperspace and travel the galaxy with all your favorite Star Wars characters! (Space Balls not included)
I fell in love with this series. I mean, there’s space travel, aliens, guns, an imperfect government that turns a blind eye to what is happening under their noses, invasions, conspiracies!
It’s enough to make a sci-fi fan drool! You’re Shepard, a commander who happens to be sent on a mission to investigate some weird stuff happening on a planet. Suddenly things go sideways and it turns out one of the goodies is a baddie. Make your own rag tag team and choose wisely how you handle your decisions, because they might have repercussions later on.
Tuh tuh TUN tuh tuh TUN tuh tuh TUN tuh tuh TUN, Tuh tuh TUN tuh tuh TUN Tuh tuh Tun tuh tuh TUN! Tuuuuh NUH nuh NUH tuuuuuuuh! Tugudududunnn tun tudududun TEEDEEEE! Deee deedeedeeeee! Da du da! Da du da dee deeeee!
Holy shit on a stick!
Forget Halo’s jumpy shooting. Forget Call of Duty’s guns! You’re Marcus F*€£ing Fénix. Certified badass. So badass they locked you up and now that the fecal matter has hit the gyrating ventilator they need to let you out to kick some ass and take some Goonies’ Sloth-looking-maternal defilers. Run for cover. Kick them in the face, chainsaw them in half so rough even… let’s keep it PG-13… This game, for me, was perhaps one of the best action-shooters of its time. Compelling story, well-rounded characters, awesome gameplay (bruh, the kryll!), and a badass final boss. Definitely worth a play and at least a replay for nostalgia.
I remember playing this one with my brothers and neighbors… it was fun… until you needed to turn left and your partner would turn the other way… or they threw the items waaaay before or after they needed to be used (I’m looking at you, Rolly!) Other than that, it was a lot of fun. It did cause a lot of fights, though… still haven’t talked to Rolly…
This game scarred me. This game had, perhaps some of the best death scenes for secondary and tertiary characters in the story. Dom’s story is just brutal and the way they threw that curveball… I wasn’t ready for it.
The Gears of War franchise brought me back to those testosterone-filled action movies for guys who like movies such as Rambo, Die Hard, Predator, Terminator, etc.
The cover mechanic and chainsaw approach was so satisfactory.
Back when the graphics revolution began, this game took a step back and gave us a cartoony Link that won our hearts.
One minute I’m farming pigs and the next I’m setting sail with pirates on a journey to save my sister wondering if perhaps I’ve have bitten more than I can chew only to find out my adventure has just begun.
There’s so much sea, islands, spelunking, and monsters to discover in this game that got me immersed in this submerged land of hyrule.
And the ending of the final battle… for me, this is perhaps the best ending a battle could have.
Many people loved Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, and they have their merits, but for me Windwaker is perhaps the best one next to Breath of the Wild (unless I dare say it’s better!).
In the 90’s a terrorist organization known as the Groganhosen is planting bombs throughout the streets and buildings in cities across the US. You are agent Slater… an expert bomb analyst with a Bachelor’s in badassery and a Masters in Bomb Diffusion. Your job is to sweep through civilian filled cities looking for the planted bombs as people give you clues of what they heard the Groganhosen gang say. Are there 2 bombs nearby? 3? 5?! Who knows… every step you take is one step away from your city going boom… wanna click on that, buddy? Your funeral…
With state of the art graphics from Windows 95 and a precise control system which relies on analog movement and clicking.
Imagine this. You wake up, no idea what is going on. Suddenly this voice as smooth as butter being cut by a warm knife begins narrating. Music begins to wrap you into this world that appears as you step forward. The adventure begins.
Bastion is a perfect combination where story, music, and gameplay come into harmony in an isometric world which unravels as you step forward. You gain experience, weapons, and friends along the way which will aid you in your quest by surviving these hostile lands to understand what has transpired.
Nostalgia: This was perhaps a game changer for me. Having played other strategy games on PC, being able to take this on the road was revolutionary.
On top of that, the story and rock-paper-scissors dynamic made it all the more challenging and interesting.
