I came here to chew bubble gum and play video games, and I got some bubblegum right here. You are most likely to find Smash Brothers and Mario Kart here.
Being a huge Genesis fan, I loved this. I could take my games anywhere! Even with that said, it had its issues, especially the battery life. It also weighed a ton. And the fact you would need 50 extra AA batteries if you went on a decently long trip...
Let's be honest here, gaming on mobile sucks compared to a console or PC. That being said, some games are great time wasters for when you are in the bathroom at work.
Can't give anything but 5 stars for this. Build it however you want, based on how much you are willing to spend. Have been building custom gaming PCs since the days of the 3dfx Voodoo cards. I can probably build one blindfolded and asleep at this point.
I was given one of these years ago. Not the greatest portable system, but still good. I only played Final Fantasy Tactics on it, so I really can't say much.
One of the best consoles ever made. Actually have 3 in my house, 2 regular and one lite. The games are awesome, the portability is great. My only complaint is the joycons themselves. Not the best design. But with some aftermarket stuff they can be made much better.
This is hands down the second best purchase in an actual gaming system I have made. Again, not as cool as the Super Nintendo, but right up there with the Wii. Amazing games and so many of them. This system really takes the cake.
The first portable system I bought, I never really had a whole lot of games for it, but do remember Mario being fun, which is fairly normal for a Mario game. Also was a great way to keep the youngin occupied on long car trips.
This system only takes a backseat to the Super Nintendo in my book, because some of the games I wish I could play sitting down. Some of the most fun I ever had with my family, as far as gaming goes, was with this system. Definitely one that I still recommend people should own, although the Switch can do most of what the Wii could do.
A very underrated system from Nintendo. The first to use discs, and they were non standard size. Uncommon products make things more expensive. Some of the games I still play to this day. Also another weird controller from Nintendo.
Just another great console. The analog controls standard really made this a great console out of the box. With tough competition from both Nintendo and Microsoft, Sony was still was able to make this one of the best selling consoles of all time.
Another system with so much potential. The first system to offer a built in modem, the online gaming could have made this so great. The drawback was there was no LAN support, which would have made it so much better, and it possibly could have kept up with the PlayStation 2. Not only that, this followed a dismal Sega Saturn run, which left consumers on the low end of trust in the brand.
Innovation, this is what Nintendo is known for. Crazy controllers, which started here. yes, the stick was to help with 3D movement, but it was just awkward. The back button was great though, and should be a major part of any good controller. Truly an amazing system, but expensive to develop for due to the cartridge system. I argue to this day that cartridges are better than discs though, as the load times are faster. But this is mostly a moot point now, as most systems have internal hard drives, or even solid state drives now.
What started a line of the most popular gaming systems ever, is possibly the most popular of it's era. The Playstation had so many great games, and they just kept coming. Pair this with one of the best controller designs ever, and you have a great success story.
Great system with great potential, but as with so many other "great potential" systems, it was hard to make games for. This drastically reduced the number of games available, in a market where both Sony and Nintendo were taking off great. The few games I have are great, and only can be played on the Saturn, but there just wasn't enough there.
Such a great addon to an existing game system. It was supposed to make current games look better by increasing colors on the screen, but most games didn't look any different. A few games were made both a regular Genesis version and the 32x version, would look and play much better if you had the 32x cartridge.
What could have been a great console, turned out to be a great let down. The controller was big and awkward, and the game selection wasn't there. Slow sales due to no great launch games, caused this to be a big flop.
The first of the truly great consoles. Everything just seemed a little better on here than the competition even though they all were fairly similar. The games were the hit that really made it take off. Mixed with one of the best controller designs to this day, the Super Nintendo is one of the best video game systems to ever grace the face of the earth.
Hard debate between 3 and 4 stars. If I could do 3.5, I would. The Atari brought gaming home in a big way. It wasn't the first home system, as both the Odyssey and Telstar came before, but the Atari 2600 was possibly the most popular and innovative. It definitely made the idea of a cartridge popular, so popular that it basically never died out.
Biggest complaint was the lack of compatibility with other systems. They went with a Unix based system that made everything hard to work around. Great for the system itself, but not for gamers in general.
Great system with some great games. The controller was more comfortable than the others of the time, but lacked buttons. The 6 button version wasn’t great due to all 6 being thumb buttons.
Great gaming system with some cartridge read issues. The second generation fixed some of those, but still didn’t work right. Still the first system for many people.
My favorite 8-bit system. It didn’t have some of the “cool” games that the big system did, but I can remember spending hours playing games on this. Looking back, this system may not have been quite as good as that other guy, but it holds a special place in my heart.
