I poured hours into this game on the Original Play Station. From grinding to beat it, to struggling with emerald weapon, this game was an RPG at its finest.
Simple put the best FF ever made and can never be copied. This game and series have brought many memories of me and my grandfather playing while I was reading the book for the secrets. Play this and you may never play the reboot.
Can't believe I haven't rated this yet. Might be surprised that I'm not giving it the full 5, but hear me out. Awesome game, love messing around with different materia combinations, some awesome set pieces, story has some of the craziest emotional beats I've ever experienced in gaming... buuuuuut
Man was the final disc a let down. You spend the entire game being antagonized by Sephiroth, physically and mentally, and then when you finally get to him, zero words are had. It's just like "Here's the dude... and now he's a gigantic monster for no reason... and then he's a gigantic angel for no reason. I also wish that after the massive emotional train wreck that was disc 1, they did more with Cloud processing Aerith's death. Feels like she's largely forgotten about by the main group immediately after disc 1.
Just being real I'd rate this closer to like a 4.75 or something but that's not an option so I'm rounding down haha
My first FF game I ever played and paved the way for my obsession with these games. I think it’s one of the best FF games out there and it has created a series of spin offs/prequels that has shaped the ff7 universe to what it is today. Story is phenomenal and I’ve replayed this game more than any other FF game.
Also a really simple system in terms of leveling up/equipping items/magic. It’s pretty much equipping different “materia”. Must play if you’re a fan of RPGs
Ok. So here's the argument on this game " it paved the way for 3D model RPGs. Yep. That's true. It did. You know what else is true the Phillips CDI paved the way for home video on video game systems. Doesn't mean it's good. FF7 had epic moments, a great sound track, and a elaborate story. That being said. The game mechanics were..meh... the consistency of the storyline was flooded with errors( and that's due to the translation team. But its still a problem) I just think 8,9 are better games and more well rounded. I know everyone feels that FF7 is the end all. It's a good start. A solid start. But it's not the end all.
I still love this game. I love turn based RPGs and this is a high watermark. The story never drags for me, I love the characters, and the soundtrack still warms my heart.
One of the greatest JRPGs I have ever played. I would literally get home from work, turn this on and fall asleep playing it. Only to wake up and continue playing it. To be young with no responsibility again...
It was a fun game to play and had a lot of awesome components. For me, it was a game I played once and didn’t play again. I’ve never been a huge FF fan, but this game at least held my interest.
