For many, many years, there has been one GREAT Kart racing game/series, and that was Mario Kart. Now, we potentially have a second one in Disney Speedstorm.
This is a free to play game, that is actually a lot of fun. It has a great cast of characters, the driving is very smooth, the controls are responsive and the music is FANTASTIC. What each power does, is not as obvious as MK, but that's okay.
The only real downside, is it plays like a free to play game. Elements of it remind me of Asphalt Legends 9 (a fun racing mobile game,) because you have to use items to level up your character to make them faster, it has drop boxes, and each race in the "story mode" has 3 quests to complete.
All in all, this is a really good game, and it's up to Disney to make it great. The potential is definitely there.
This game surprised me. It's a great racing game and the gameplay is great. Love that you can customize each characters special's attacks. The one knock is the micro-transactions.
This is an easy 5 star game. The music and the graphics alone give it close to 5 stars. The racing is phenomenal, it’s so smooth. There is a lot of strategy during the race which gives the game a ton of replay ability. I love Disney and I am excited to see what series they add to this game. I will be playing for a long time
The music and graphics are a real treat with this game. The controls are smooth and the different styles of drivers are noticeable and fun. The courses feel short and there aren't many yet, but I'm hoping the constant updating of content addresses that. The pay to win feel hurts the game for me. If you give me a ranked, regulated mode, I'll go to four stars. I would absolutely love this as a C3 event though.
Update: I can't stop playing, so we're moving up to 4 stars. All other previous comments still stand.
Update 2: We're hitting 5 stars. There's an aggression needed in this game, especially off the starting line, that I really love. Your character is rewarded with boost for being offensive and crashing into others. The ranked grind is a fun time. The items all feel useful and skill dependent.
this is a 5 star game. very addictive. short tracks so you can play quick games. lots of ways to upgrade your character and abilities. rank is very competitive. the music is absolutely FIRE! so many characters to unlock with unlockable cosmetics as well. mariokart who?
Honestly have never been a HUGE Mario Kart fan, I really only played on the Wii. I feel like this takes what MK has built and adds the newer aspects that I PERSONALLY love (better graphics, better music, battle pass, and Disney!!) The fact that it's free now (I paid for Founder's Edition) and cross platform also one ups Mario Kart. For those saying it's slow, you just need to play more. The more you upgrade your characters the faster the races get.
This is a 4.5 but I am rounding up.
There are so many great characters and they are adding more every season. The characters legit feel different instead of just copying and pasting. It does feel slower than Mario Kart but it is just as cut-throat.
I have been playing since the early release, yes I paid money for a free game, and it has been great seasons so far.
They completely revamped the upgrade system which was a pain point in the past.
4 stars for now based on characters, authentic looking (& well built) Disney tracks, Disney songs during races, the ability to upgrade karts/parts/characters as well as unlock characters in their "battle pass". Didn't go 5 stars for 2 reasons. 1: The racing doesn't feel fast (yet). If I had to compare it, it feels like I'm racing "Mario Kart 100cc" speed but I'm also like 2 chapters in in the story mode. 2: Unknown how multiplayer works/plays, unsure how it compares to Kart (bc there's no avoiding comparing the two).
