The Wii U was a weird concept at the time. Why would your controller also be a screen. Clearly they had the switch on their mind. Thankfully this system was short lived.
What is it with Nintendo and weird controllers. Granted this one is better than the 64 but still not the best. My buddies and I spent many nights battling it out in Soul Caliber. It was nice to see RE 4 on it also. Overall not a bad system but it seems like Nintendo always shoots themselves in the foot. Why not just use actual disc's instead of trying to re-invent the wheel everything.
Gameboy color wasn't a bad handheld. Jumping up to a color backlite screen made all the difference. Better orientation than the original game made it more comfortable to play but still a little too small.
I really think mobile gaming is a struggle. Too many pay walls or ads that ruin the experience. If I want to game , then I want to game. I don't want to play for 5 minutes and then have to wait until tomorrow for my turns to replenish.
I really wanted to like the Genesis because I can from a Master System. It looked great and had some enjoyable game too. I think the controller was a step up from previous generations like the Master System and NES but the SNES controller felt much better to me.
Not the worst system put out by Nintendo but certainly not the best. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were where it was at. The controller was goofy and that expansion slot was too.
The Sony VR platform was a good taste into the VR world but just didn't have the performance needed to really take advantage of it. The graphics and the clarity were greatly lacking which set it apart from Oculus or one of the many other offerings. Besides that fact it was Sony.
The whole VR experience is really cool. The Quest is a solid platform and has ran great with my PC, I never have any hiccups. I think VR in general is pretty niche and the game library still needs some work. Its immersive but not fully, which can make you feel a little off sort of speak.
So far the PS5 has been good to me. I only have a few games for it but expanding PS Plus will certainly hold me over for some time. The console is massive, like the original Xbox and I am actually liking the controller more than I thought I would. Good system with lots of potential.
Sony comes back swing after a disappointing PS3. The PS4 was/is a solid console. The evolution of the controller to add ports (yes I know xbox blah blah blah) for your mic was much needed. The UI took a huge leap forward on the PS4 and it flowed so well. Simple to use with plenty of ways to customize.
The PS2 was my favorite system growing up. There were so many great games on this system. Nearly every genre of gaming had amazing options to play. Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk, GTA, God of War, Guitar Hero, Soul Caliber. Anything you wanted you had with this system. I spent many nights playing Need for Speed Underground, online with my friend on his PC. Back when cross play was very new, but fun. I can hear Lil' Jon now.
What could have been. Sega's last foray into the console game. I really wish this system could have panned out as I have always liked Sega and their systems. The controllers were weird, but the added screen was pretty cool. When we would play football games and the fact you could see what play you wanted to select and not have your opponent know it too was a nice touch. Internet capable could have been implemented better. I did dabble a bit with burned games that my friends and I shared. Overall I wish it turned out better but sometimes they just fall.
Such a great system. The PS1 really changed gaming for me. I was getting older when this system came out and wanted something a little different than just Mario or Zelda. I wanted a game that created a better story and could pull me into the universe. Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Suikoden, the list goes on and on. I played this system so much that the only way I could play it was placing it upside down. If you know, you know. In my list of best consoles this is in the top 5 for best ever.
The Switch is a great console, handheld? Either way, it does both so well. Whether I am sitting on a couch or riding on an airplane, I enjoy every aspect of it. A couple cons are the thickness of the joycons. After playing handheld for a little while my palms tend to hurt a bit due to how thin it is. The screen is another con, I feel the resolution/clarity isn't on par with what could have been. Either way its a great system, fun games and has shown the potential of a handheld/console system.
The original Xbox was a total wash. There were some fun games and it was nice to see another contender step into the console market after Sega rode off into the sunset. Thankfully they understood the 2nd time around that bigger doesn't mean better. The console was massive and the controllers were disgusting. Thankfully they brought out the S which made gaming more pleasurable.
The best console Microsoft ever put out. Everything about this system was gold. The controller, the look, the games, the red rings, everything! The way Microsoft incorporated your avatar and profile and the addition of a gamer score was perfect. It helped draw me in and my friends and keep us connected on the same platform. All around great system.
Master race, its true. What you can do with gaming on a PC versus a console is nearly endless. You can build games, mod games, up until recently the only place to stream games. I built my first "gaming" PC back in 98 and never looked back.
The best Nintendo system ever made. I still play the SNES games from my Switch. I really spent the majority of my gaming on this system as a kid. tons of great games, at the time, amazing graphics and the controller was top notch.
PS3 was such a let down compared to the PS2. I think Sony was trying something different with this system and it didn't hit like their others have. The graphics on most games looked good and the UI stayed true. Its hard to give a bad review on a system that gave us some of the best Uncharted games but I do what I must.
The Wii was such a unique experience. It added a new level of gaming that wasn't seen at the time. I spend a lot of time playing and enjoying it but it was too gimmicky for me. It was a niche console I felt. The originals like Mario, Zelda and the Sports/Resort games weren't bad but all the others fell flat. I may be on the outside but overall it wasn't that great of a system.
So much anticipation for this console only to be let down, from the opening Jaguar growl. The absolute worst controller in the history of gaming. The poor choices of games and just overall bad execution, I think makes this one of the worst but unique systems to be made. There were a couple fun games like Brutal Sports Football or The Dragon, but the majority were trash.
Game Gear was hands down the best portable system until the Switch came out. Yeah, fight me! I used to rock the big case that held all my games, screen magnifier, Master System cartridge adapter and TV tuner. I had it all for this system because I loved it so much. Sonic, Space Harrier, all of it was awesome. I remember the color screen being so vivid and bright that all the Gameboy fans were crying.
What can I say that probably hasn't been said already. This was the beginning for almost everyone in generation. So many fun games to play and a lot were not what I would consider main stream games. Some of my favorites were Jackal, Skate or Die, Spy Hunter and Afterburner. Of course some became more popular over the years.
I think the controller was lacking, too small and cheap feeling compared the the Master System. The games on this system set it apart. I am glad to have experienced NES in its heyday and it will always hold a special place.
The first true video game system I ever played. In the time I really enjoyed it. It was my first foray into 3D games to like Maze Hunter and Zaxxon. The technology wasn't that great from what I remember but it was a very cool and futuristic concept back then. I did a lot of sitting and watching having two older brothers always playing. When I did get time I spent a lot of time playing the pre-loaded Snail Maze game and Shinobi. Ninjas were cool, actually they still are.
I remember liking the controller style versus the Nintendo due to the way the directional pad was designed. It made playing Double Dragon better, or at least I told my friends it did. I think Sega did have a solid system here but the games that were coming out on NES and weren't for Sega had to give the win to NES in this generation.
