"Piggybacking off of @aerialapostle I have a big problem with the design of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in general with how it handles items. The full rant would take way longer than I'm willing to type, but suffice it to say that the game doesn't reward you nearly enough for knowing how to drive, and most of the time is actively punishing you. My biggest individual gripe as far as the items go is that red shells are way too common for how powerful they are. Runner up gripe is that lightnings should either make first small for a long time or they should take all of your items, but not both. It's completely idiotic that you can get shocked after the last set on a race and go from first to last for something that's entirely out of your control For a more positive spin on this, I would say that I wish the game had more shortcuts like Toad Harbor, Ribbon Road, and Ice Ice Outpost where it's not just mushroom through offroad + GG, but actually require some skill / practice for you to hit properly. Ice Ice is one of the few tracks where I consistently do well, and I think a big part of that is that it's one of the few courses that REALLY rewards you for learning how to play it properly. Bagging has its place, but I guess what I'm saying is that if I'm willing to accept that there are tracks that reward you for being in the back by giving you a million miles of offroad to shroom through, there should be more skill based tracks where you can save a ton of time by taking shortcuts that are only accessible if you're good at the game /rant"

"Not so much *a* memory as a set of memories. There was a guy who used to time trial in the group A LOT called Jem. My very first season joining we were time trialing Electrodrome and I thought I was hot shit posting a time of like 2:06 Then Jem comes out the gate with a 2:03 and my brain legitimately couldn't process how this dude could be *so much* faster than the rest of us. Then we ended up going back and forth posting times that were literal tenths of a second apart over and over until we were both right at the 2:02 flat mark Every single week was like this with me and him competing for the best times; sometimes I'd win, sometimes he'd win, but the times were always super close. On Bowser's Castle in particular he beat me by just 0.006 seconds (no it doesn't still sting STOP ASKING ME). That fierce competition was like nothing I'd ever experienced before in gaming and is what really cemented this as one of my all time favorite games"
