It's Final Fight but with Batman. This follows the 2nd Batman movie with a dark, gritty vibe. It's quite good and has excellent graphics and sound. Side scrolling beat 'em ups were my jam back in the day so I always liked this and it fits Batman's whole theme too. Just walking around town punching and kicking people. There's a lot of Batman games out there and some of them are straight up doo doo. This is a good one though.
If there was one thing Konami knew how to do in the early 90s it was make a game where you punched things. Simpsons, TMNT, X-Men... but that was arcade. Let's talk about SNES. While you may have been distracted by games like castlevania and contra we so easily forget that Konami was beat em up power house and one game specifically comes to mind. Batman Returns. From yhe opening credits of the game you get the creepy Tim Burton batman theme. Digitized Micheal Keaton, Danny Divito and Michelle Phifer. The story of the movie. With cut scenes. Then it happens. You're batman. Punching clowns and thugs with a satisfying smash. You can grab two enemies and smash their heads together. Just like in the movie and just when you thought it was just a beat em up. Bam! Car level! This game was so overlooked at the time. There were like 60 or so movie title games out on the snes and most of them complete trash. But this. This game. This game made you feel like you were batman unfortunately the only way to play this game is on the SNES. There are other versions of the game on the sega, sega cd, game gear and gameboy. But none of them are the same. So dust off your snes, put on your gimp mask with pointy ears, turn on your CRT and look at your reflection and say it. "I'm Batman"
